Why does it seems like people constantly sleep on Hip-Hop music that’s made by our neighbors to the north? Some of my favorite artists are from Canada, and Shad definitely falls underneath that umbrella alongside Classified. My friend Aaron told me to check out Shad a while back, and I downloaded his material, but I never really gave his music the chance that it deserved. I started listening to The Old Prince quite a bit after a while, but for some reason I never gave TSOL any spins; I would later come to find out that I was missing out on one of the best albums in the last 2-3 years. Shad quickly became one of my favorite emcees with just a few spins of TSOL; his skill on the mic is undeniable, and he’s able to skew so many topics in a short amount of time without sacrificing any attention to detail. Album Download: Chad Hatcher, Bridges EP
Posted in News with tags Bridges EP, canada, Chad Hatcher, Classified, Nova Scotia, Tunnels and Pathways on Thursday, February 16, 2012 by Tim AlthausI was really glad to see that Chad dropped this the other day. For those of you who don’t know, Chad Hatcher is an amazing singer/songwriter from Nova Scotia; he’s done a lot of work with Classified, and he’s been on his grind for a long time. In 2008, Chad released the stellar solo debut Tunnels and Pathways. This year Chad has been putting in some serious work; he released a cover of the Foster the People song “Pumped Up Kicks”, and he also covered the legendary Pharcyde song “Passin’ Me By”.
The Bridges EP is a great effort from Chad, and it’s great material whether you are a long time fan or a first time listener. For the reasonable price of free99, I think the burden is on the listener to click the button and download the album.
Video: Classified (Feat. Joe Budden), “Unusual”
Posted in Media, Video with tags canada, Classified, Handshakes & Middle Fingers, Hip-Hop, Joe Budden, Unusual on Friday, January 13, 2012 by Tim AlthausWhat a great thing to come home to after a long ass day at work. Classified released the visuals for his latest single “Unusual” which was on last year’s Handshakes & Middle Fingers; the cut features Jump-Off Joe Beezy and a brain bruising beat complete with a perfectly utilized sample. “Unusual” is one of my favorite cuts off one of my favorite albums of 2011. I’ve said it time and time again, but Classified is one of the most consistent guys in Hip-Hop over the last 5 years; everything this guy does is well above average, and I feel like he’s going to keep making noise for the Canadian scene. If you haven’t, I highly suggest you go out and cop Handshakes & Middlefingers… yesterday.
Junior Boys kick start North American tour at end of May
Posted in Concert Dates, News with tags canada, First Ave, junior boys, Like a Child, Ontario, So This is Goodbye, tour dates on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 by Nicholas Blexrud
Grooving to a beat unmistakably of their own, Junior Boys kick off their North American tour on March 28th in Ontario, Canada. No need to worry though, they will be slowly steppin’ into First Ave on the 3rd of April. These slippery melodies are easy-on-the-ear, while allowing space to wander back to days of innocent youth. The track “Like a Child” is simple and fun, just like being a child. Soft vocals and subtle synths are enough to make any inner-child feel warm and cozy.
Enjoy the song Like a Child off their 2006 album So This is Goodbye.

Lykke Li gets a blast from the past on Nardwuar
Posted in Video with tags canada, lykke li, much music, sweden on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Ryan Buege
This is a great interview, simply because of the crazy number of props this dude is hiding in his bin. Lykke has a hard time responding to the questions because she’s just so amazed by what this wacky Canadian keeps pulling out, and it’s quite hilarious. She gave an incredible performance a few weeks ago at the Varsity in MPLS and Culture Bully captured the whole show. Anyone who’s asking themselves “why should I care?” should quickly set themselves straight; dig deeper to find out what you’re missing from this beautiful Swede.
