HAPPY EAT DAY

Posted in Culture on Thursday, November 27, 2008 by Erik Burg

thanksgivingHello everybody out there in the interwebs, I hope you are enjoying/did enjoy Thanksgiving this year and that not too many fights broke out between family members. I’m in the dorms this year by myself feasting on pepperoni hot pockets and mountain dew, so I thought I’d drop by and say hello to all those faithful readers out there. Well…that’s all for now, there’s a nice mix below that you can fall asleep to (or dance to) after you stuff yourself full of Turkey.

Drinking clean water that sat in cow shit?

world_cow

Can you imagine taking a refreshing sip of some water that was sitting in ole’ Heffer’s (pictured above) excrement? I’m guessing the word that you wouldn’t use would be refreshing, I would say your adjective would probably be vile, disgusting, repulsive or a combination of many other nasty words. The folks at Vestergaard Frandsen have made it possible for water that was sitting in cow dung, as well as any other vile material to taste good as well as be healthy. They created a device called the Life Straw as well as the Life Straw Family. These devices are made for countries who have a mass quantity of people that can’t get clean and safe water to drink. This product is absolutely amazing, I will let the video speak for itself.

Gas prices plummet to below $2 nationally?

Posted in Politics with tags , , , , on Monday, November 24, 2008 by Tim Althaus

gas-bendover1I found an article on Digg today (that was from Sunday) from CNN that talked about how the average gas price fell below two dollars for the first time since March of 2005. It really made me think, we as American’s have been getting bent over royally. But part of the reason is because we have been using so much gasoline that the demand is so high. It’s nice that as a country we have been able to cut back drastically on the use and dependency of gasoline.

A lot of people constantly bitch about how gasoline prices are so high and tend to blame the president and congress, but they must realize that we as American’s use more gasoline than any other country in the world. And if you think about the simple principles of supply and demand it all makes sense that gas is so fucking expensive at some points.

I have to tell you fellow American’s that I don’t feel as though I can trust OPEC to keep the price of oil down for too long, which means we will soon be bending over again. We need to keep it up as a country and start finding other means to get places that we need to go. Alternative fuels are going to play such a huge part in the future and it’s just a matter of time before our vehicles are running on something other than gasoline.

November 23rd is free Dr. Pepper day (?)

Posted in Culture with tags , , on Sunday, November 23, 2008 by Ryan Buege

Fuck Guns ‘N Roses part deux; the only thing I’m excited about today is my free Dr Pepper that they promised me. However, right now now Dr Peppers’ lack of foresight is making this pretty hard for me; apparently the soft-drink company failed to predict that when it said it’d give the world free soda people would actually want it. The coupon for the free Dr Pepper is only supposed to be available through the company’s website today until midnight, but because they didn’t add enough server capacity to support the web traffic, their site has been unavailable for most of the day already! According to a report at WalletPop.com, a Dr Pepper spokesman said at noon EST that “the company was working to add more servers to handle the Web traffic”, but I’m going to guess that that might be too little too late. If I don’t get my free Dr Pepper AND there is a new Guns ‘N Roses available for purchase, this will be a very shitty day.

Staring at the Walls

Posted in Life Perspectives with tags on Thursday, October 16, 2008 by raeflect

Those of us that have grown up in rooms entirely our own, or have eventually occupied a lone cell, often times will decorate the walls.  Some people seem to put up pictures, artwork, or tapestry merely to fill space, with little or no thought as to how this arrangement reflects personality.  Others entirely take over a room, cramming the walls with either dozens of half blurred pictures of friends, posters of favorite bands, cloth hangings with intricate design, or artwork of still and/or lively nature.  I ascribe myself to the latter school; There are pictures of valleys, waterfalls, cloud obscured sunsets, and random light swirls.  I feel at home in my room, comforted by the images surrounding me, and I feel proud when anyone enters and comments on the either peaceful nature of the space, or the specific images that help make up the togetherness.

It seems that many individuals, especially those that decorate based on their wish to be surrounded by those things they love, are sometimes reticent, or reluctant to allow strangers entry into their space.  Rooms often take on a personal feeling when one has inhabited the space for a long time, projecting a sense of peace, hurt, sorrow, love or even emptiness, depending on the personality of the occupant.  To walk into the room of such a person is an almost intimate act, one that should be appreciated and respected.  Currently my favorite thing to look at in my room is a painting I was loaned by a friend.

If the images on your walls are static and have become boring… consider spending a few minutes either re-arranging, or tearing them down to replace them with something more interesting to look at.  Make your space belong to you… and live with it.
