Video: Reflection Eternal, “In This World”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Tim Althaus

Yeah I know, I’ve been behind the curve this last week, but talk about amazing visuals for an amazing track. A little while back I posted Kweli & Hi-Tek’s first single, “In This World”, off of their new album Revolutions Per Minute, and this is the music video for the same track. The video is directed by Punit Deshi who also directed the video for The Soul Asssassins track “Classical”; Dehsi is one of the best music video directors I’ve seen in a long time. Man, I love every single aspect of  this video; there isn’t one thing I don’t like. I am anxiously counting down the days until April 6th is finally here.

Reflection Eternal, “In This World” + Video Trailer

Every once in awhile, a track will come along that makes me shake my head in sheer astonishment; this track is definitely one of them. I’ve been waiting for a new Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek record for a long time. These two single handedly changed many of my thoughts on Hip-Hop music. The gods answered my prayers (and those of many others), and Reflection Eternal will be dropping their new album Revolutions Per Minute on April 6th. I read somewhere that The Source already gave this album four and a half mics; if every track on this album follows the same formula as “In This World”, I’m having absolutely no problems believing that.

Hi-Tek’s production jumps out at me and I’m frozen like a deer in headlights; Tek concocts a skin crawling beat complete with a beautiful soul sample and brain bruising synthesizer notes. Talib proves that he’s still one of the best to do it on the microphone, “Aye yo’, I grab the mic until my hands develop the calluses/my style is bent/I only see myself and John Malkovich/my grind miraculous, rhyme from slums to palaces/facin’ all my challenges, raising the black power fist.”

I don’t know about you, but this track has me in awe. I have a strong feeling that Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek are going to make another album worthy of instant classic status; afterall, they are one of the greatest pairings in the game of Hip-Hop. Also included below is the video trailer for “In This World”; the visuals for this video look very impressive.

Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek Perform New Track Off of Revolutions Per Minute

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Man, there is way too much good music coming out right now (did I really just say that?). Shouts to 2DopeBoyz for the lok on this one. Reflection Eternal (Talib & Hi-Tek) were in Washington DC recently, and they performed a new track off of their upcoming album. The new album will be epically titled Revolutions Per Minute, and unfortunately there is no tentative release date yet. By the sounds of the video, this track is beyond sick and it almost gives me that grimy vibe that “More or Less” gave me. Another thing you will notice is why Kweli is one of the best emcees in the history of the game. Oh boy, Kwe & Tek got me fiending  for a new Reflection album real bad.

Talib Kweli Drops Some Knowledge On Ruby Hornet

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , , , on Monday, July 27, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The one and only Talib Kweli recently was in Chicago, and DJ RTC from Ruby Hornet TV had the chance to interview him about a variety of things. Talib talks about where he is at this point of his career and how he has gotten to the point where he is happy with his following. Talib and DJ RTC talk about The Beautiful Struggle a little bit, and they discuss how Talib was able to go on tour with The Beastie Boys, as well as the backlash from fans about the album. A good area that Talib touches on is Twitter and how he feels that he is able to convey something he feels strongly about to the people that follow him. As you can expect, Black Star is definitely mentioned in the interview. Talib also discusses what it’s like to be working with Hi-Tek again.

Make sure you check this one, Talib is one of the best that is doing it, as well as one of the best that’s ever done it. The video is a little long, clocking in at just under eleven minutes, but if you are a huge Kweli fan like me you will probably watch it. It’s always great to hear Kweli dropping some knowledge to the masses.

Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek on Black Star, Being Good

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Friday, June 19, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Here is a great video interview with Hi-Tek & Talib Kweli. Pyramid West had the chance to catch up with Reflection after one of their recent shows. Kwe & Tek reflect on the original Black Star album and what the recording process was like for that album. It really surprises me that they only made those cuts for that album, they didn’t do any extra tracks at all (that’s fucking impressive). Kweli talks about what it takes to be a good emcee, and Hi-Tek talks about what he thinks it takes to be a good producer.

Reflection Eternal rocks Skidmore College (and cancels U of M show)

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Sunday, April 26, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I was really upset when I found out about Reflection performing at the University of Minnesota way to late (Ryan: which, unfortunately for EVERYONE in MN, he ended up cancelling late last night anyway. No word whether it will be rescheduled, but considering it was planned exclusively for the U’s Spring Jam festivities, it’s doubtful). These guys put on one hell of a show, as you can clearly see from the video. The sound quality isn’t the absolute greatest, but you can tell that the show is sick as hell. Kweli tears it up as he rolls through the set, make sure you check this one out. Kwe performs his verse on Kanye’s “Get em’ High”, The new Reflection track “Back Again” and Kweli’s always classic “Get By”.

Reflection Eternal is “Back Again”

This video really gets me excited for the things that Kweli & Hi-Tek have in store for us. I caught this video on my MySpace feed on a bulletin from Kweli. This video is just some classic Kweli and Hi-Tek chemistry with Kweli spitting some great bars over a nice beat. Make sure you keep a look out for that new Reflection album coming soon.

Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek talk to HipHop Official at SXSW

Man Kweli & Hi-Tek really have me anticipating the new Reflection Eternal album. This interview is making the anticipation grow at an alarming rate. Hi-Tek basically says that this new album is going to be the next level from the previous Reflection album, and that makes me really fucking excited. Notice how Kweli talks about updating their formulas with the times (Gang Starr shit). Hi-Tek says that the album is at a “strong 50%” which means that we should look forward to seeing it relatively soon. Also make sure you look close in the background, you can see Hi-Tek punching on the pads of the MPC in the background (are all producers doing this now?).

Reflection Eternal is Hitting Up Your “Internet Connection”

Posted in Downloads with tags , , , , on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Tim Althaus

kwe-and-hiOh, blessed is the day! Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek released a new track on the internet called “Internet Connection” and it features legend Bootsy Collins. To be honest this track didn’t hit me like previous Reflection tracks, but to be honest it’s still damn good. Kweli & Tek haven’t skipped a beat and I’m hopin this track is just one in a line of many that we get to hear in the following months. Hi-Tek’s production skill on this track is on point (as it always is), and Kweli’s lyrics tear through the track like paper. Kweli said he is hoping that the new Reflection will be out by the end of the year; God I hope so. You can be sure that I will be keeping you up to date every step of the way with the new Reflection Eternal album.

Talib Kweli Speaks: Reflection Eternal Before Summer, New Liberation?

Posted in News with tags , , , , , on Thursday, February 12, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Talib Kweli recently did an interview with about current projects and things with his label Blacksmith. It sounds like the next year is jam packed for the god emcee from Brooklyn. I am excited to hear that Kweli has been in Cincinatti with Hi-Tek working hard in the studio on the new Reflection Eternal album, which they hope to release before summer. Talib metnioned that the new Black Star that I was hoping for will not be released this year, but I’m sure we can look forward to that in the future. Talib also mentione there there is a possibility of another Liberation album with Madlib.

All of the previously mentioned information makes me very anctious to hear what Talib has in store for us. Like I’ve said before the original the Reflection Eternal album pretty much changed the way that I listened to music, who knows what this one will do. It sounds like it could be an amazing year for this man and my guess is it will be. You know as soon as I have any updates I will keep you posted right away.
