Chali 2na is the Hip Hop Official Artist of the Week

Here is another legendary emcee that I never get sick of hearing about. Chali 2na (as all of you should know) is the former frontman of Jurassic 5, and he has one of the most recognizable voices in Hip-Hop. In this video the Verbal Herman Munster speaks on his latest solo album, Fish Outta Water, and how it’s been something that has been in his mind for a long time. Chali also talks about trying to make his music that it connects on an emotional level with the listener, as well as how his son inspires his music. Definitely worth checking out, Chali is a legend.

Sareem Poems – Black And Read All Over

I just heard a little bit of this new album by Sareem Poems (formerly Poems and Sharlok Poems) called Black and Read All Over. There are a couple of great tracks. I would highly recommend checking it out. The album features Akil of J5, Pigeon John, Theory Hazit, LMNO, Scarub, & Ohmega Watts.

Found this one on Always Hustle. Chali2na performing the song “Comin’ Thru” off his new album Fish Outta Water at the Highline Ballroom in NYC on 7/13. This is my favorite track on the LP.

This man is one of the best in my opinion. The “syllable killa/verbal gorilla” Chali 2na has a voice that is unparalleled by anyone else. When you hear that deep voice start on the track you know the beat is going to get decimated. In this video for G4 TV, Chali 2na spits a pretty ridculous freestyle (it starts off slow, but once he gets into it he lights it up) and talks about his introduction to the art of freestyle, both in the neighborhood and professionally. Chali is one of those guys that you have to listen to because everything he does is just that ill. Make sure you go out and get the Jurassic 5 EP re-issue right away.

This video is for a track that came out on the Jurassic 5 re-release of the always classic Jurassic 5 EP. On the new and improved version of the EP you get 15 additional tracks (the original tracklist is included) and a dvd with videos. This is one of the videos that is on the DVD. As usual J5 comes out with some hard hitting drums and some great horns. All of these guys just rip this beat apart like fresh meat.

Jurassic 5 EP being re-issued for 10th anniversary

It’s been 10 long years since Chali 2na, Akil, Mark 7even, Zaakir (Soup), Cut Chemist & DJ Nu Mark bust onto the hip-hop scene with their legendary Jurassic 5 EP. The Jurassic 5 EP was as close to a perfect record as you could get, hard hitting drums with great samples and absolutely amazing lyrics.

To celebrate the eleventh anniversary of this modern day classic, the EP is being re-released (it had been out of print since 2004) with additional bonus tracks (there are 29 tracks total on 2 discs), as well as a DVD with live performances, a documentary and the video for “Concrete Schoolyard”. I don’t know about you, but this package seems to have a great deal of added value here. For all of you die-hard J5 fans (I happen to be a pretty damn big one) this is a great item for you to add to the collection.
