Chali 2na is the Hip Hop Official Artist of the Week

Here is another legendary emcee that I never get sick of hearing about. Chali 2na (as all of you should know) is the former frontman of Jurassic 5, and he has one of the most recognizable voices in Hip-Hop. In this video the Verbal Herman Munster speaks on his latest solo album, Fish Outta Water, and how it’s been something that has been in his mind for a long time. Chali also talks about trying to make his music that it connects on an emotional level with the listener, as well as how his son inspires his music. Definitely worth checking out, Chali is a legend.

Chali 2na & Talib Kweli, “Lock Shit Down” (Video)

Here is the video for the track “Lock Shit Down” off of Chali’s new album, Fish Outta Water. As I mentioned in a previous post, this track has two incredible emcees on the same track spitting phlegm that will leave you mesmerized. The video was directed excellently by Yoram Benz & Jason Goldwatch. The visuals in this video are awesome and they compliment the track really well. Make sure you go get Chali 2na’s new album Fish Outta Water, in stores now.

Can you say epic (shouts to 2DopeBoyz)? That’s exactly what this artwork is for Chali 2na’s new album Fish Outta Water, which will be dropping July 7th. This album looks like it’s going to be great. We will hear guest appearances from Talib Kweli, Beenie Man, Elzhi (holy shit), as well as Damian & Steven Marley. chali Here’s a new one from Jurassic 5 front man Chali 2na. This joint, “Lock Shit Down”, features the always legendary Talib Kweli. Succinctly put, it features two legendary emcees over a dope beat. You do the math yourself. Shout outs to 2Dopeboyz for having this one up. Look out for the 2na Fish’s solo effort Fish Outta Water due out sometime in the future.

Rock The Bells 2009

Ummm wow. That was my initial reaction when I saw this post at Hip Hop DX. With the initial artist lineup, this looks like (to me) that this is going to be the concert of the year. I know for sure that I am going to be trying like hell to make the Chicago show, because this is something I definitely don’t want to miss. This looks like the most studded Hip-Hop lineup I’ve seen for a show this year, and there are still more to be announced. If you get a chance to get tickets, please do not pass up your chance. Rock The Bells (Guerilla Union) has been putting together some of the finest Hip-Hop shows for the last 5 years and apparently they are looking to follow suit very strongly. To be honest I would probably pay one hundred dollars to see The Roots or Reflection Eternal. That means that even if tickets are one hundred (we don’t know as of yet) that this concert is absolutely killer for price. If you are able to make it to one of these shows, you are going to be catching the best Hip-Hop shows of this year.

Make sure you stay tuned for dates and ticket prices, as well as any updates that have to pertain to this series because we will let you know right away.

Chali 2na teaches Freestyle 101 to G4

This man is one of the best in my opinion. The “syllable killa/verbal gorilla” Chali 2na has a voice that is unparalleled by anyone else. When you hear that deep voice start on the track you know the beat is going to get decimated. In this video for G4 TV, Chali 2na spits a pretty ridculous freestyle (it starts off slow, but once he gets into it he lights it up) and talks about his introduction to the art of freestyle, both in the neighborhood and professionally. Chali is one of those guys that you have to listen to because everything he does is just that ill. Make sure you go out and get the Jurassic 5 EP re-issue right away.

Jurassic 5 EP being re-issued for 10th anniversary

It’s been 10 long years since Chali 2na, Akil, Mark 7even, Zaakir (Soup), Cut Chemist & DJ Nu Mark bust onto the hip-hop scene with their legendary Jurassic 5 EP. The Jurassic 5 EP was as close to a perfect record as you could get, hard hitting drums with great samples and absolutely amazing lyrics.

To celebrate the eleventh anniversary of this modern day classic, the EP is being re-released (it had been out of print since 2004) with additional bonus tracks (there are 29 tracks total on 2 discs), as well as a DVD with live performances, a documentary and the video for “Concrete Schoolyard”. I don’t know about you, but this package seems to have a great deal of added value here. For all of you die-hard J5 fans (I happen to be a pretty damn big one) this is a great item for you to add to the collection.
