Slaughterhouse have let go of the first single off of their forthcoming Shady Records debut, Welcome to Our House. “Hammer Dance” is a certified banger that features none other than araabMUZIK on the boards. I’ve been waiting to hear this single for quite some time, and without a doubt, I can say I’m impressed. Even though I was a huge fan of araabMUZIK’s solo album Electronic Dream, I’m glad to hear that he’s back behind the boards in the Hip-Hop realm. All four emcees absolutely decimate araab’s incredible instrumental that features a nice little hard rock sample that some of you may be familiar with (*cough* Korn *cough*). Tracks like this are going to make me very irritable while waiting for May 15th to get here.

Posted in Audio, Media with tags Boy Meets World, Exile, Fashawn, The Ecology on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 by Tim AlthausI really hope that this means Fashawn & Exile are close to finishing Fashawn’s sophomore effort The Ecolog; Boy Meets World is still one of my favorite albums to this day. I spotted this gem at 2DopeBoyz yesterday, and needless to say, I fucking love it. The chemistry that is shown between Fash & Ex is amazing; even though Exile is a below average emcee, his style blends very well with Fashawn’s witty wordplay. Even though Exile doesn’t spit bars that will leave your face molten, he makes beats that surely will; I don’t think I’ve heard an Exile beat that I wasn’t a fan of.

Big K.R.I.T., “Boobie Miles”
Posted in Audio, Media with tags 4EvaNaDay, Big K.R.I.T., Live From the Underground, Southern Hip-Hop on Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Tim AlthausI spotted this one at 2DopeBoyz last night, but it was far too late to post anything, so I decided to throw it up today. Big K.R.I.T. released the artwork for his upcoming mixtape 4EvaNaDay, and he let go of the lead single as well; According to K.R.I.T., “Boobie Miles” is about overcoming all of the trials and tribulations that often seem to get in the way when you are trying to reach your dreams. “Boobie Miles” is so smooth, and although it doesn’t have a producer credit, I’m fairly certain that K.R.I.T. produced this himself; this guy does everything, and he’s pretty much the future of Southern Hip-Hop. I can’t wait to hear 4EvaNaDay, and I’m dying to hear Live From the Underground. It’s going to be a big year for Big K.R.I.T.
Unlooped Vs. Dilla To Perform Encore Show
Posted in Audio, Media, Video with tags J Dilla, Milwaukee, Stonefly Brewing Company, Unlooped on Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Tim AlthausI was very excited to see this pop up on my Facebook feed yesterday, and I’m glad that Jon Jon Scott posted this. This last September, various musicians got together at the Stonefly Brewing Company in Milwaukee to recreate some of Dilla’s production pieces with a classical, yet modern mindset (very similar to Suite For Ma Dukes); I was bummed that I didn’t get to see Unlooped Vs. Dilla, but it looks like I might get another chance to experience a one-of-a-kind opportunity. They haven’t released the dates for the encore yet, but it’s going to be sometime this month, and I can assure you that I’m going to be there. You can listen to the original Unlooped Vs. Dilla performance below, and be on the lookout for J Dilla related material from yours truly through the rest of this month.
M.i (Feat. ScienZe), “Bubble” (Prod. By M.i)
Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags Bubble, Coldplay Sessions, M.i, ScienZe on Monday, January 23, 2012 by Tim AlthausThese last couple of leaks off of The Coldplay Sessions is really starting to get me amped for February 7th; M.i just dropped “Bubble” a few days ago, and I can honestly say that I’m digging the hell out of it. As I’ve mentioned before, M.i has a super laid back flow, and he makes it very easy to like his music. He brings along Brooklyn native Scienze to do some damage on his beautiful jazz influenced beat. This Austin native is becoming one of my favorite emcees; this dude has skills on the mic and the production boards, and that’s not easy to come by.

M.i, “Crawl Back” (From The Coldplay Sessions)
Posted in Audio, Media, Video with tags Coldplay Sessions, Hip-Hop, Jack Johnson Sessions, M.i, Prep Time, texas on Monday, January 16, 2012 by Tim AlthausAustin, Texas native M.i dropped some new heat from his upcoming mixtape The Coldplay Sessions which is slated to drop on February 7th of next month. The Coldplay Sessions will be a follow-up to his last two mixtapes The Jack Johnson Sessions and Prep Time, both of which are fantastic releases; in fact, Prep Time was on of my top five favorite mixtapes last year. “Crawl Back” gives the listeners everything that they’ve become accustomed to hearing when listening to M.i: beautiful soul sample based beats and M.i’s signature laid back flow. The thing that impresses me most is that M.i does all of his own production, mixing and arranging on The Coldplay Sessions. The tape will contain fourteen brand new tracks that contain sample flips from Coldplay songs, and M.i will be putting his own spin on each cut.

Many of you may recall that M.i won a contest put on by the people of HipHopDX and Crooks & Castles to be featured on an exclusive beat created by the Grammy Award winning production collective The J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. His entry, “Maybe I” was a certified heat rock, and it can be viewed below.
Big Gigantic Does it BIG with NOCTURNAL
Posted in Album Download, Audio, Media with tags Big Gigantic, Boulder, Electronica, NOCTURNAL on Thursday, January 12, 2012 by Eric Gilardi
The duo from Boulder, CO really has out done themselves with their new album NOCTURNAL; not only is it free but it’s also phenomenal. This is one of those albums that can literally melt your face while you are melting away into your couch. If you haven’t heard of this electronic duo I suggest you go to their website, and take full advantage of the free download.
Once you start listening be fully aware that you will need about 53 minutes of your day to complete the voyage into a futuristic space that is NOCTURNAL by Big Gigantic. The track “Beginning Of the End” blends melodic horns with an electro-funk sound in such a way that this is far from the Beginning Of the End for these two but rather the progression into the bright future.
After you download this album feel free to download the rest of their discography from their site. Now that they have hooked you up, return the favor and hook them up by attending one of their shows. If you like the music, you will love what you will see while in attendance. Trust your ears now and your eyes later.
Statitk Selektah & Termanology, “Shining”
Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags 1982, boston, Hip-Hop, Statik Selektah, Termanology on Thursday, January 12, 2012 by Tim AlthausI was on the Smoking Section the other day, and to my surprise, Statik Selektah & Termanology dropped their debut single from their forthcoming sophomore LP 2012. Their debut album, 1982, was one of my favorite albums of 2010, and I still constantly give it spins; Statik’s beats are crazy, and Term’s rhymes are as potent as the dopest red bud out there. These guys are quickly becoming one of my favorite tandems, and “Shining” further solidifies that status; Stat uses a myriad of samples to concoct a beautiful beat, and Termanology does his thing and leaves the mic battered and bruised.

Fashawn, “Hard” (Freestyle)
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Fashawn, Hard, Rhianna, XXL Freshmen 2010 on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Tim AlthausThis kid is seriously the shit. I love everything that he comes out with, and I really look forward to following his career in the Hip-Hop game. Fashawn was recently chosen for this year’s XXL Freshmen 10 for 2010, and this is one of his cuts off of the XXL mixtape. This shit seriously does go hard, and I think it’s tenfold better than the original Rhianna track. You may remember that Royce completely nuked this track a while back with his brother Kid Vishis, and I think Fashawn does pretty close to the same thing.

Little Brother Takes a “Curtain Call”
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Big Pooh, Curtain Call, Khrysis, Leftback, Little Brother, Phonte on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 by Tim AlthausIf every day could start out with a new Little Brother track, it would surely be a great day. “Curtain Call” is the first single off of LB’s new album Leftback which drops on April 20th, and it features Khrysis the Animal on the boards. This is definitely a real nice track, but it hurts me to think that this will be the last time we will hear a full length album from Phonte & Big Pooh. You will hear Phonte & Big Pooh spitting their usual dope verses, but at the end of the song Phonte shouts out some of the acts that he feels will be able to carry the torch; some of the names might surprise you.

Big shouts to Nah Right on the find.
