Album Review: Mos Def, The Ecstatic

mos-def-the-ecstatic Mos Def is part of one of my favorite duos of all-time (Black Star), and to be honest I really haven’t felt any of his solo projects since Black On Both Sides. The New Danger had Mos going in a different direction than previously heard, and Tru3 Magic just seemed like it was (for the lack of a better term) a half-assed effort. I remember hearing the buzz that this album was coming out this year, and prior to its release I was waiting with great anticipation. I can tell you that this album absolutely eclipses his two prior efforts, and to go even further I just may like this album more than Black On Both Sides. Continue reading

Mos Def’s new album The Ecstatic dropped today and I’m hoping that all of you went out there and copped it, because I took one listen and it’s impressive (review later this week). Here is a video of Mos performing the track “Quiet Dog” off of the new album on Late Night With David Letterman. GO GET THE ECSTATIC!

Mos Gives a History With Help From Dilla & Kweli

MosDef Here is a top quality track off of Mos’s new album The Ecstatic which will be dropping this coming Tuesday. The track features Talib Kweli (the other half of Black Star) and is produced by the legendary J Dilla. As many of you know, Mos & Kweli on the same track usually makes for some pure magic.

I don’t know about you readers out there, but I am definitely going to be at the store on Tuesday picking this gem up. Mos is due for another classic album, considering Tru3 Magic was an epic fail. Follow me after the jump for the track download. Continue reading

Mos Def gets “Ecstatic” about his new album

Posted in Music News with tags , , , on Monday, March 23, 2009 by Tim Althaus

mos-def-the-ecstatic2I was over at Okayplayer the other day and this news article definitely caught my eye. I’ve been looking forward to a new Mos Def album since his last one. I sadly wasn’t a huge fan of Tru3 Magic but I know that Mos has it in him to make another classic. They were saying that the date that is tentative for the release is June 9th (not official), but I’m not going to count on it. Make sure you check out the video below which has Mos spitting a pretty dope acapella.

Audio: Mos Def “Life in Marvelous Times” & “Quiet Dog”

mos_def21 Mos Def is one of those guys that just seems to always be around. He is going to be dropping his first album since Tru3 Magic, which was released in 2006. A lot of people knocked Might Mos for Tru3 Magic and I really don’t blame them, the album just didn’t strike a cord for me. It was no where near the level of aspirations shown on Black on Both Sides.

I can honestly say that I am highly anticipating this album. I haven’t heard anything from Mos in a while, and he’s about due for a classic. I mean this guy has two uber classic albums in Hip-Hop on his shoulders (Black on Both Sides & Black Star w/ Kweli). Watch for Mos to be dropping some fire on The Ecstatic which is slated to drop on Downtown Records on February 24th.
