This is the definition of a dope video. Last week I posted the teaser, and yesterday the official video came out for “Falling Down” by Evidence. This is one of the dopest videos I’ve set my eyes on in a long time. If you’ve been sleeping on Cats & Dogs, you probably shouldn’t be listening to Hip-Hop, and that’s a fact.

Video: Evidence, “Falling Down”
Posted in Media, Video with tags "Falling Down", Cats & Dogs, Evidence on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 by Tim AlthausM.i (Feat. ScienZe), “Bubble” (Prod. By M.i)
Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags Bubble, Coldplay Sessions, M.i, ScienZe on Monday, January 23, 2012 by Tim AlthausThese last couple of leaks off of The Coldplay Sessions is really starting to get me amped for February 7th; M.i just dropped “Bubble” a few days ago, and I can honestly say that I’m digging the hell out of it. As I’ve mentioned before, M.i has a super laid back flow, and he makes it very easy to like his music. He brings along Brooklyn native Scienze to do some damage on his beautiful jazz influenced beat. This Austin native is becoming one of my favorite emcees; this dude has skills on the mic and the production boards, and that’s not easy to come by.

Welcome To Slept On Saturdays at Mind Inversion
Posted in Album Download, Media, Slept on Saturdays with tags Midwest Hip-Hop, Seven, XV, Zero Heroes on Saturday, January 21, 2012 by Tim AlthausDo you ever find that there’s music that you criminally slept on (see: The Only Color That Matters is Green) ? More often than not, I end up finding out about a project that I managed to neglect for some reason or another. I was looking for a weekly column that I could do, and I feel like Slept On Saturdays is the perfect idea. Every Saturday I’m going to take the opportunity to shed some light on a mixtape, album or track that I overlooked because of sheer obliviousness. After all, the saying goes, “it’s better late than never”. Continue reading
Video: Will Sessions, Mix Takes: Take One & Take Two
Posted in Media, Video with tags Detroit, Elmatic, Elzhi, Live Instrumentation, Mix Takes, Will Sessions on Thursday, January 19, 2012 by Tim AlthausIf you don’t know who Will Sessions is these days, you might be living underneath a rock. The funk outfit from Detroit that instrumentally crafted Elzhi’s Elmatic has been doing big things over the last two years; these two videos are no different. In both takes of the Mix Takes, you will see Will Sessions re-creating some of their favorite jams in real-time on video; this is something that is a must see for anyone that is a real Hip-Hop head. Scattered throughout you will hear some Dilla, Main Source, Nas, Slum Village and even some Herbie Hancock. You can catch Take Two after the jump. Continue reading
DJ Premier & Bumpy Knuckles, “wEaRe aT WaR”
Posted in Downloads, Media with tags "wEaRe aT WaR", Bumpy Knuckles, DJ Premier, The KoleXXXion on Thursday, January 19, 2012 by Tim AlthausDJ Premier and Bumpy Knuckles (AKA Freddie Foxxx) have dropped their latest boom-bap offering, “wEaRe aT WaR”, from their forthcoming March 27th LP The KoleXXXion. “wEaRe aT WaR” features everything you’ve come to love from DJ Premier and Mr. Foxxx; razor-sharp cuts from one of the greatest DJs the game has ever, and rhymes by Bumpy Knuckles that are rougher than 320 grit sandpaper.

Shouts to 2DopeBoyz on the find.
Also: I had to throw in the video for Gang Starr, “The Militia” because it’s a Hip-Hop essential.
Video Teaser: Evidence, “Falling Down”
Posted in Media, Video with tags "Falling Down", Cats & Dogs, Evidence, Rhymesayers Entertainment on Thursday, January 19, 2012 by Tim AlthausAs I mentioned in the Freddie Gibbs and Madlib post the other day, I’m not usually the type of person that posts “teaser trailers”, but this is a different story. “Falling Down” is arguably my favorite track from last year, and Cats & Dogs was my album of the year in 2011; it looks like the video (directed by Todd Angkasuwan) is going to be just as epic as the hard hitting track by Evidence and Rahki. Evidence is one of my favorite emcees in the game right now; I can’t make a negative comment about any of the material that he has put out. Make sure you watch out for the “Falling Down” video coming this Tuesday, January 24th.
Freddie Gibbs & Ski Beatz to Release Collaborative LP?
Posted in Media, Music News with tags 24 Hour Karate School Pt. 2, Freddie Gibbs, Illegal, Ski Beatz on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by Tim AlthausCheese and rice; Gangsta Gibbs is all over the place these days. He dropped a critically acclaimed mixtape last year, came out with a collaborative effort with Statik Selektah, and he recently dropped his material with Madlib; now it sounds like he’s going to be dropping a collaborative LP with legendary producer Ski Beatz. Some of you may remember the single that Ski Beatz dropped with Gibbs already off of 24 Hour Karate School, Pt. 2 titled “Illegal”; if that single is any indication of what’s to come… the Hip-Hop world is going to be in for one hell of a surprise.

Video: Madlib & Freddie Gibbs, “Thuggin”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Freddie Gibbs, Hip-Hop, Madlib, Stones Throw, Thuggin' EP on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by Tim AlthausIt’s about time Gangsta Gibbs & Madlib dropped some visuals from their collaborative EP; they released a teaser last week, but I’m usually not too big on posting those. I woke up this morning to a Facebook wall post from one of my musical comrades, and needless to say I was very surprised that it was the video for “Thuggin”. This is one of the most gutter tracks I’ve heard in a long time. Madlib’s beat full of sequential strings is relatively simple, but it gives Freddie Gibbs the perfect canvas to spray blood, sweat and tears on. I can not wait to hear more material from these two; it’s blatantly obvious that they are a deadly duo.
M.i, “Crawl Back” (From The Coldplay Sessions)
Posted in Audio, Media, Video with tags Coldplay Sessions, Hip-Hop, Jack Johnson Sessions, M.i, Prep Time, texas on Monday, January 16, 2012 by Tim AlthausAustin, Texas native M.i dropped some new heat from his upcoming mixtape The Coldplay Sessions which is slated to drop on February 7th of next month. The Coldplay Sessions will be a follow-up to his last two mixtapes The Jack Johnson Sessions and Prep Time, both of which are fantastic releases; in fact, Prep Time was on of my top five favorite mixtapes last year. “Crawl Back” gives the listeners everything that they’ve become accustomed to hearing when listening to M.i: beautiful soul sample based beats and M.i’s signature laid back flow. The thing that impresses me most is that M.i does all of his own production, mixing and arranging on The Coldplay Sessions. The tape will contain fourteen brand new tracks that contain sample flips from Coldplay songs, and M.i will be putting his own spin on each cut.

Many of you may recall that M.i won a contest put on by the people of HipHopDX and Crooks & Castles to be featured on an exclusive beat created by the Grammy Award winning production collective The J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. His entry, “Maybe I” was a certified heat rock, and it can be viewed below.
