Step Brothers (Evidence x Alchemist) Will Release Lord Steppington in 2013

Posted in Album Update, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, January 4, 2013 by Tim Althaus

First off, let me say that I can’t believe I’m writing this post; this project had almost reached Detox status for me.I realize that both of these dudes have been extremely busy over the last couple of years, but damn…

I feel as though all of my Hip-Hop prayers have been answered. I just peeped this video the other day on Ev’s twitter, and it got my super excited. I’ve been waiting for an Evidence and Alchemist full-length since they mentioned their Step Brothers project back in 2009. What makes this project even more special? It’s being released through Rhymesayers Entertainment – talk about dope. There are a few assumptions that I can make about Lord Steppington: First, the beats are going to be raw;  the equivalent of having your skin scraped off after a fall on the pavement. Second, the album is going to be chocked full of humor; we all know that Evidence and Alchemist are hilarious dudes.

Here’s a little taste of what to expect:

Soundset 2012 Announced!

Posted in Concert Dates, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on Monday, March 5, 2012 by Tim Althaus

Sorry for the delay in my posting lately folks, but I’ve been swamped in my personal life. Anyways, I was at work today when I got about 3 different text messages pertaining to this year’s Soundset Festival in Shakopee, MN. Let me tell you right now, my heart dropped when I saw this lineup; it is utterly fantastic. I went to the initial reincarnation of Soundset in 2008, and it’s one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I also went in 2009, but I haven’t been back since because I wasn’t as enthused about the lineup as I had been in past years.

This year they have truly outdone themselves; I can’t even express how excited I am about this lineup. Some of the artists (just to name a few) include Atmosphere (as always), Aesop Rock, Evidence, Big K.R.I.T., Ghostface Killah & Raekwon, Danny Brown, DJ Premier, Kendrick Lamar, hometown heroes Audio Perm and more. Tickets will be on sale this Saturday, March 10th at 11AM, and I can assure you I will be picking up a VIP ticket stat. General admission is going to be $41, and VIP will be $90. I hope to see you all there!

Album Review: Gangrene, Vodka & Ayahuasca

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Tim Althaus

Before Alchemist and Oh No released Gutter Water, I wasn’t sure what to think; any time that two producing emcees collaborate on a project, I’m almost certainly going to compare their effort to Champion Sound by Jaylib. I still remember picking up my copy of Gutter Water the day that it came out, and I also remember being completely blown away. There was one immediate thought that came to my mind: Should I pour bleach into my ears to clean out the filth that I had just been subject to? Listening to Gutter Water is the equivalent of bathing in raw sewage without putting in ear plugs. On Vodka & Ayahuasca, Oh No and Alchemist casually continue the trend of mind marauding with pavement pounding beats and raised rhyming skills. Continue reading

Video: Evidence, “Falling Down”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Wednesday, January 25, 2012 by Tim Althaus

This is the definition of a dope video. Last week I posted the teaser, and yesterday the official video came out for “Falling Down” by Evidence. This is one of the dopest videos I’ve set my eyes on in a long time. If you’ve been sleeping on Cats & Dogs, you probably shouldn’t be listening to Hip-Hop, and that’s a fact.

Video Teaser: Evidence, “Falling Down”

As I mentioned in the Freddie Gibbs and Madlib post the other day, I’m not usually the type of person that posts “teaser trailers”, but this is a different story. “Falling Down” is arguably my favorite track from last year, and Cats & Dogs  was my album of the year in 2011; it looks like the video (directed by Todd Angkasuwan) is going to be just as epic as the hard hitting track by Evidence and Rahki. Evidence is one of my favorite emcees in the game right now; I can’t make a negative comment about any of the material that he has put out. Make sure you watch out for the “Falling Down” video coming this Tuesday, January 24th.

Evidence, “To Be Continued…”

This made my day on Saturday when I found it, and I definitely want to give a big up to Shake over at 2DopeBoyz. I’ve been itching for some new Mr. Slow Flow material since The LAyover EP dropped, and it looks as though my prayers have been answered. Apparently, Premo dropped this track on his radio station the other night, and from what I’ve read, this track will not be featured on Cats & Dogs; either way you look at it, this track is dope as hell, but I already knew that was the case because it’s EV.

Brother Ali, Evidence, Toki Wright & BK-One, “Freshest Kids” (Track Download x Video)

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Video with tags , , , , , on Sunday, September 27, 2009 by Tim Althaus

First of all, let me start off by saying that “Freshest Kids” might be the track of the year. This shit is just plain ridiculous. I posted a video of Brother Ali & Toki recording this track a little while back, and this is the finished product. The beat on this track is incredible and all three emcees spits verses so hot it might leave your ears with third degree burns. I gotta give it up to BK-One, he’s concocted one of the best beats I’ve heard this year with this track. I’m bowing to these guys right now. And to think, they only recorded this track just for the tour… make sure you catch these guys when they come to your city, it’s going to be one hell of a show.

Alchemist Talks: Chemical Warfare, Step Brothers, Hats & Ping Pong

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, September 25, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Man, every time Alchemist says something he makes me laugh my ass off. He’s probably one of the funniest guys in Hip-Hop. You should definitely watch this one for a few good laughs. AL talks about his new album Chemical Warfare (in stores now), his collaboration with Evidence (Step Brothers), the hats that he wears in the game & how he is ridiculous at ping pong. Fucking love it.

Fashawn, Boy Meets World (Artwork & Tracklisting)

Boy Meets World

Here’s an album that is way off of the hype meter for me. October 20th can not come soon enough. As I’ve mentioned at least 15 times, Fashawn’s album Boy Meets World comes out next month. Chances are, it is going to be one of the best debuts I’ve ever heard. The album is produced entirely by Exile, and it features Evidence, Blu, Aloe Blacc and more. Make sure you go out and cop this album. Support real Hip-Hop. Follow me after the jump for the tracklisting. Continue reading

Brother Ali & Evidence Talk to Mr. Peter Parker @ Us Midnight Release

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Tim Althaus

As many of you know, Brother Ali’s latest album Us dropped yesterday. If you haven’t bought it yet you should be pummeled to death, because it’s absolutely incredible. Ant’s puts forth some of the best beats I’ve ever heard him make, and Brother Ali’s rhymes are sure to move you.

Peter Parker had a chance to catch up with both of these emcees at Brother Ali’s midnight album release at Fifth Element. Brother Ali talks a lot about the new album and what it means to him. He also talks about BK-One’s new album coming out October 6th, Radio Do Canibal.

Parker got a pretty long interview with Evidence, and they discuss a wide variety of topics. EV discusses what it’s like to be a part of the Rhymesayers team, what it was like to lose AM (good friends), how his solo material is different than the Dilated material, Rakaa’s new album Crown of Thorns (February 2010), and the new Dilated Peoples album (Damn…). This is just one of the reasons I love Evidence the most, dude is humble and everything he says is on point.
