Brother Ali “Speaks the Truth” to Hip Hop DX

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , on Saturday, February 21, 2009 by Tim Althaus

brother-ali-2Ever since Brother Ali dropped his 2007 effort (not to mention modern day classic), The Undisputed Truth he has been one busy ass dude. He’s been touring all the time, and now he is getting ready to drop an EP next month entitled The Truth is Here. Recently the fine folks over at Hip Hop DX sat down with the man himself for an interview, and to be quite frank it’s one of the best in depth and personal interviews I’ve read in a long time. There are a lot of issues that I never knew about that he discusses in this interview.

The interview starts out with Ali’s views on his fellow peer and mentor KRS-One’s feelings about Barack Obama. He also sounds off on how Verizon wouldn’t let him tour with Gym Class Heroes because of his “Uncle Sam Goddamn” video. I also had no idea that the Department of Homeland Security froze the Rhymesayers bank account when Ali was overseas in Australia. Apparently when the DHS froze the bank account, Ali and his crew had to register their social security numbers, addresses and even tell them why they were there. It’s funny that Ali really isn’t that political of a rapper, but even he agrees that he has been getting the Chuck D Treatment. You can also read about how the plans are progressing for Ali’s new album (sounds ridiculous) that drops next year.

All in all this is a great interview. This article skews a lot of different aspects in Brother Ali’s life and it is very in depth. Make sure you go out and get The Truth is Here next month when it drops, it promises to be some incredible material.

As most of you know, Brother Ali will be dropping a new EP/DVD entitled The Truth is Here next month. This is a promo video for his first single off the EP, “Good Lord”. The video will be directed by Rick Cordero, and Ali says that this is the first song that really focuses on the fact that he is muslim. Check  the Ali Shaheed Muhammad (whom you all should know is part of the legendary Tribe Called Quest) cameo and listen to how Ali feels about the things that Tribe did, as well as what Shaheed though was their key to success. This is a great promo vid check it out, also go get The Truth is Here on March 10th on Rhymesayers Entertainment.

Brother Ali to Release New EP & DVD Next Month

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , , on Tuesday, February 3, 2009 by Tim Althaus

brother-ali-31Well it appears as though your favorite albino emcee, Brother Ali, will be coming out with a new nine track EP next month (with a guest appearance from Slug) as well as a DVD that accompanies it. The EP will be nine tracks of straight fire material as you can expect and it is titled The Truth is Here. This is the preface for his fourth studio album due out this fall. I can assure you that this EP will be nothing short of amazing. Brother Ali & Ant have been doing some amazing things for years, I’m sure they are sticking to the same formula.

The DVD will feature the homecoming show off his Undisputed Truth Tour at the legendary venue First Avenue. I was actually at this show, and I can tell you that it was truly an amazing show, every single aspect of it. This EP is worth it for the DVD alone, the music is just going to make this purchase have a ton of added value. It will also feature interviews with Brother Ali as well a commentary by the man himself. You also will get the videos for “Uncle Sam Goddamn” and “Take Me Home” (which was probably my favorite track on the album).

I can assure you on March 10th when this comes out, I will be at the store making a purchase of this album. I’ve heard from a few sources that Ali’s new material is ridiculous and I can’t wait to hear it. Again folks, here is another example of Rhymsayers dropping megaton bombs.

It’s almost spring time and that means that Paid Dues is right around the corner. If you are lucky enough to be out in San Bernadino you will be able to catch one sick ass show. Rhymesayers vets Atomsphere will be headlining the bill, and will be featured by an array of RSE artists (Brother Ali, Eyedea & Abilities). To be honest the two acts I would be looking forward to the most are Cage as well as Blu & Exile. Both of the aforementioned artists are coming off of near classic albums and I would love to see what kind of life they can breathe into a live show. Who knows Exile might just rock out on the MPC during their show. Just like Soundset, this festival sounds very promising.

Editors Note: I had to edit this post because the supergroup Slaughterhouse (Royce Da 5’9″, Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz) has been added to the bill.

Video: Jake One “The Truth” feat. Freeway & Brother Ali

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This is the first video that has premiered off of Jake One‘s debut album White Van Music. As I’ve previously mentioned in earlier posts White Van Music is going to be a serious contender on a lot of top 10 lists this year, and “The Truth” is one of the best tracks on this album. Freeway and Brother Ali seem like they would be polar opposites and wouldn’t mesh together on the track, this however is clearly not the case. Watch the video and go out and get in the Van, you won’t be disappointed.

Brother Ali Speaks on Jake One’s forthcoming album White Van Music

One of the most conscious and beloved emcees from the Rhymesayers Entertainment gives his opinion on Jake One‘s new album White Van Music.  The album comes out Oct. 7th on Rhymesayers Entertainment and has an extensive guest list that contrasts main stream Hip-Hop as well as Underground favorites. I believe this album promises to be one of the top contenders for Hip-Hop album of the year. Jake has been a producer for everyone from 50 Cent and G-Unit to MF Doom and De La Soul. I will have a full review of the album tomorrow for you to read. Many of these tracks can be listened to if you click on the Jake One link above.
