Vodpod videos no longer available.

In the above video you can catch Cymarshall Law tearing apart the Hip-Hop Kemp Festival in the Czech Republic. In the video you get a nice little cameo from Devin the Dude in the beginning as Cymar is breaking down the situation. Another surprise gem is getting to watch a little footage of Blu & Exile performing together, which I’m sure is an incredible experience. At the end of the video you get to see Cymar rocking hard on the stage. Follow me after the jump to hear Cymar ride over RZA’s “New Wu” beat. (It’s super dope) Continue reading

Holy shit. As you all know I love Hip-Hop, but I also love The Black Keys. There is something about their music that is so dynamic, that it pulls me right in. Their heavy Blues riffs, and great lyrics made me fall in love with their music. When I headed over to 2DopeBoyz today, I found out that the Black Keys are going to be putting out an album with a bunch of Hip-Hop guest appearances. On the album you will find: Mos Def, RZA, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, Raekwon, Pharoahe Monch & more. The album will be dropping on November 27th, or Black Friday. The project will be called Black Roc, and Dame Dash will have a pretty big part in this album being released.

Good Lord, this album sounds like it’s going to be incredible. The first single “Hoochie Coo” dropped today, and it features Mos Def & Jim Jones. I can assure you that I already like the Black Keys infused beats that I am hearing on this track. I think this album is going to be a force to be reckoned with.

Album Review: Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2

Raekwon-Only_Built_4_Cuban_Linx_2 Wu-Tang has been one of the greatest dynasties that Hip-Hop has ever seen. Just about every group album has been stellar, not to mention that every solo album is top notch quality. Raekwon comes into Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 fourteen years after the original Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, which, to this day is a classic. The aforementioned information may pose the question: Is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 as good as the original? The answer, in my opinion, is a definite yes. I took one run through this album in my car, and I knew immediately I was listening to a classic . Raekwon brings along an all-star cast of producers and emcees to “cook up”, without a doubt, one of the best albums of 2009. Creating a magnificent masterpiece that is just as good as it’s predecessor is no easy task, but as OB4CL2 shows, for The Chef it comes naturally. Continue reading

Wild Style Wednesday Review: GZA, Liquid Swords

Posted in Music Reviews, Wildstyle Wednesdays with tags , , , , , , , , , on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 by Tim Althaus

GZA-LiquidSwordsWu-Tang Clan is one of the most influential groups in the history of Hip-Hop music. GZA (in my opinion) is the best emcee (although they are all incredible) in the group, so it would make sense to say that he is one of the most influential emcees of all-time. The album Liquid Swords is nothing short of a lauded lyrical masterpiece, and every single track on this album is sonically sound. Not only is this one of the greatest Wu-Tang related albums ever released, it is one of the greatest albums in Hip-Hop history. RZA’s production on this album is ridiculous, not to mention the samples on this album fit the tracks tighter than a hipster’s t-shirt, and GZA’s rhymes are legendary in every aspect of the word. Wu-Tang Clan Demo Tape?

wu

I was over at Hip Hop Official and I found this rare gem. What I have here, is the original 1992 Wu-Tang Demo. That’s right, this is before they became every Hip-Hop head’s favorite group with Enter The 36 Chambers. We are talking about the demo that got Wu-Tang Clan in the game. You will hear every member of the Clan gracing the mic just like they always have. Not to mention that you will get to hear some straight up old school RZA production. Don’t sleep on this one, you may truly regret it.

Raekwon Talks Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , , on Friday, July 24, 2009 by Tim Althaus

As my man Nolan mentioned earlier this week, Raekwon finally dropped the album artwork and tracklisting for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. In this video he talks a lot about the production that his going to be on the new album. He mentions that when he was going through the process, he thought that production was going to be the biggest piece of the album. Rae actually breaks down how dope he thinks (and I think) Dilla is on the boards. He calls him “like a Dr. Dre & a RZA… a combo”. I’m sure that you can expect nothing but straight fire from Rae & Ghost. Make sure you drop that shit on September 8th, you won’t regret it.

Rock The Bells 2009

Ummm wow. That was my initial reaction when I saw this post at Hip Hop DX. With the initial artist lineup, this looks like (to me) that this is going to be the concert of the year. I know for sure that I am going to be trying like hell to make the Chicago show, because this is something I definitely don’t want to miss. This looks like the most studded Hip-Hop lineup I’ve seen for a show this year, and there are still more to be announced. If you get a chance to get tickets, please do not pass up your chance. Rock The Bells (Guerilla Union) has been putting together some of the finest Hip-Hop shows for the last 5 years and apparently they are looking to follow suit very strongly. To be honest I would probably pay one hundred dollars to see The Roots or Reflection Eternal. That means that even if tickets are one hundred (we don’t know as of yet) that this concert is absolutely killer for price. If you are able to make it to one of these shows, you are going to be catching the best Hip-Hop shows of this year.

Make sure you stay tuned for dates and ticket prices, as well as any updates that have to pertain to this series because we will let you know right away.

Raekwon gives details about Only Built For Cuban Linx 2, Wu Tour Dates

the-chef

It seems as though the Chef is cooking up some classic material once again. Raekwon talked to Pitchfork about his new masterpiece, the sequel to arguably one of the greatest solo Wu albums of all time, Only Built for Cuban Linx 2. According to Raekwon, “This record is the shit, it’s been getting around in my camp. It’s another masterpiece that is ready to be released.” The Chef also said that he strayed away from all RZA production because as an artist he felt as though he wanted to move on to other things. He noted that he has some of the best producers in the game for the last 20 years on this shit. Who would he be speaking of? Dr. Dre, Marley Marl, J Dilla, Pete Rock and DJ Scratch (holy shit, what a producer list) will be heading the production side of the album and guest appearances will include Ghostface, Method Man, GZA, Busta Rhymes & Inspectah Deck.

If you go over to the original article Rae talks about how he wanted the new OBFCL  to compliment the original one coming out. he wanted to “be like seeing DeNiro do a mafia flick, do something completely different and then come back to another mafia film and be the same dude he was in The Godfather.” That’s almost exactly the way that Raekwon’s career has gone, he released two other albums since the original OBFCL and this is like him going back to the stove and cooking up classics.

It sounds like this album is already going to be one of the biggest albums to come out next year. All of you Wu heads out there get ready because this album is going to be exactly what you’ve been waiting for. Based on the last OBFCL I can assure you that chances are, you are going to be seeing plenty of Ghost on this album to.
