Evidence and Alchemist are “Step Brothers” in the lab…

Posted in News, Video with tags , , , , , on Sunday, March 1, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I don’t know about you readers out there, but this video makes me claw with anticipation. As many of you know, Evidence & Alchemist are putting out an album together as the group “Step Brothers”. This is one of my highest anticipated releases of this year (besides EV’s Cats & Dogs) because both of these guys are incredibly talented musicians. Not only are they incredibly talented, but they are two of my favorite artists in the Hip-Hop game right now. EV & ALC are also two of the hardest working cats in the game right now. Evidence has the Step Brothers album as well as the Cats & Dogs album, and Alchemist has potentially three albums due out this year (Step Brothers, Chemical Warfare & Gangrene (which is a side project with Oh No)).

This video is only 48 seconds long, but it’s definitely enough for me to know that this album is going to be classic material. Make sure you stay tuned to Mind Inversion for all of the latest news and updates on both Evidence & Alchemist as well as the progress on these albums.

Video: Evidence “For Whom the Bell Tolls”

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Here it is, the moment we’ve all been waiting for (at least I know I have). The “For Whom the Bell Tolls” video is now up on MTVu. Thanks to yours truly I was able to grab the video off of MTVu and post it. This video is pretty much amazing and is about to get my nod for video of the year in 2009 and we’re only 2 months in. All of these emcees together on one track makes for an impressive showing, and the concept for the video makes it even more impressive. This was actually the lead single off of the The LAyover EP but this is one of the only songs that EV didn’t shoot a video for until now. Make sure you check out the video, and if you haven’t, go out and get The LAyover EP because it was easily one of the best releases of last year.

XLR8R TV Episode 95: The Alchemist

Alchemist is a guy that really needs no introduction. He’s been behind some of the best produced Hip-Hop for the last 15 or so years. He is also lifelong friend of Evidence with whom he will be releasing an album entitled Step Brothers. This is a good interview, and after watching this I think that Alchemist is pretty much a genius. The way that he relates him making music to art is unreal (him talking about making a “collage” beat), and he puts an awful lot of thought into his beats when he is making them for other artists. If you haven’t make sure you go out and get The Alchemist Cookbook EP which is out now.

Video: Evidence, “For Whom Bell Tolls” Behind the Scenes Part 2

Posted in Video with tags , , , on Friday, February 6, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Here is the second part of the “For Whom The Bell Tolls” video, I posted the 1st part on Wednesday. This part of the video is very insightful as to how each of these people feels about this song and each other. Will.I.Am talks about Evidence and how he has known him since the 10th grade (Will.I.Am recorded his first track ever with EV). This is a great video check it out.

Man I honestly can’t wait for this video to premier. This behind the scenes look was spotted at 2DopeBoyz, and was done by Hip-Hop Official. This behind the scenes look is much more detailed than the last one, and boy does this video look pretty damn crazy. Make sure you check this out because you know I will have the video up when it comes out. Make sure you watch for Cats & Dogs dropping sometime this year as well. IF you haven’t make sure you go out and get The LAyover EP, that shit’s official.

This is another one of those unreal videos of MPC work from Exile. Evidence gives him a great intro and then Exile does his thing live infront of hundreds of people. Make sure you go out and get Exile’s album Radio which dropped January 20th.

Review: Evidence, The Purple Tape Instrumentals

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , on Monday, February 2, 2009 by Tim Althaus

purple-tape You have all been hearing me talk about Evidence non-stop for what seems like the last 6 months. Everything that I have been discussing however has been about his emcee game, not his producing skills. I have to tell you that Evidence is one hell of a producer. I also have to let you know that I absolutely love beat tapes, so this one hits really close to home. I haven’t really listened to the Red or Yellow Tape Instrumentals for awhile, so I didn’t really know what to expect.

The album starts out with a track called “Take U Back”. The beat has a nice little sample flip and some hard hitting drums with your occasional guitar loop. It’s a great way to kick off the beat tape (not to mention the track has an intro almost as if a movie were beginning) and it hooked me right away. “Lost Cause” is one of those totally infectious beats, and it reminds me of a track that s0meone by the likes of Dr. Dre would spit over. This is another track that I could easily see being in a movie score. To be honest to me I kind of felt like I was listening to a movie score from beginning to end. This album is great quality and a great testament to EV’s production skills. I would love to hear emcees spitting over every single one of these beats. The song “Hour Glass” is truly a beautiful beat at the very least, and in my opinion might be the highlight of the beat tape.

The Purple Tape Instrumentals is a great supplement to follow up it’s predecessors (Red Tape & Yellow Tape Instrumentals) with 20 straight bangin’ beats, and I highly suggest that you go out and grab this if you are an Evidence fan because these are some great beats. Some of them are actually very simple beats, but the way they are arranged makes them very enjoyable.

Evidence moves the packed crowd in '08

Evidence moves the packed crowd in '08

The biggest and baddest outdoor hip-hop festival is back for another year in 2009. Anybody who attended last years events knows that it was absolutely banging and that the acts there were second to none. A few adjustments have been made to this years festivities, most notably the fact that instead of holding everything at the Metrodome the party will be brought to Canterbury Downs in Shakopee, MN. The date remains the same, memorial day May 24th starting at 11 am.                                                                                                                              Aesop Rock with “None Shall Pass” at Soundset ’08

No official artists have been announced yet for ’09, but their myspace (check it HERE) says that information will be released as soon as possible. So keep an eye out guys, because if the line-up is anywhere near last years this event will be one you won’t want to miss.

There will be a post up as soon as possible when artists and other acts are announced, so STAY TUNED!

Video: Evidence Freestyle @ Fat Beats L.A.

Here is a video of Evidence freestyling over a classic beat by Alchemist at Fat Beats during an instore. Notice that EV is great when it comes to rhymes off the top of the head. This guy has absolutely torn the game apart the last two years and it’s no wonder. He’s a beast.

Video: Evidence, “For Whom The Bell Tolls” (Behind The Scenes)

Here is some behind the scenes action with Evidence, Phonte, and Will.I.Am behind the scenes of the “For Whom the Bell Tolls” music video shoot. If you decided to get one of the best releases of last year (The LAyover EP) then you know that this was one of the only videos not featured on the DVD. To be honest I laughed my ass off when Evidence was talking to Phonte about exfoliation, that shit is downright hilarious. Check out this video because it provides some great laughs. I can’t wait to see the video when it’s done, you know for sure that I will have it up as soon as it premiers.
