Step Brothers (Evidence x Alchemist) Will Release Lord Steppington in 2013

Posted in Album Update, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, January 4, 2013 by Tim Althaus

First off, let me say that I can’t believe I’m writing this post; this project had almost reached Detox status for me.I realize that both of these dudes have been extremely busy over the last couple of years, but damn…

I feel as though all of my Hip-Hop prayers have been answered. I just peeped this video the other day on Ev’s twitter, and it got my super excited. I’ve been waiting for an Evidence and Alchemist full-length since they mentioned their Step Brothers project back in 2009. What makes this project even more special? It’s being released through Rhymesayers Entertainment – talk about dope. There are a few assumptions that I can make about Lord Steppington: First, the beats are going to be raw;  the equivalent of having your skin scraped off after a fall on the pavement. Second, the album is going to be chocked full of humor; we all know that Evidence and Alchemist are hilarious dudes.

Here’s a little taste of what to expect:

Top 10 Albums (no particular order)
Kendrick Lamar: Good Kid, m.a.a.d. City
“Swimming Pools (Drank)”

Kendrick Lamar has the Outkast factor.  I can listen to his songs, intently focusing on the lyrics while getting lost in the scenes he vividly describes, or I can zone out, not pay attention to what he’s saying and dance to the beat while singing along with the incredibly infectious hooks.  GKMC feels like 3 Stacks and Big Boi rolling through Compton with Caine and O-Dog from Menace II Society.

Standout Tracks:  Money Trees, Bitch Don’t Kill My Vibe, The Art of Peer Pressure, Swimming Pools (Drank), The Recipe Continue reading

Alchemist dropped a 12 minute album today through the sunglass company 9Five. It consists of two tracks and has the likes of Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Oh No, Blu, Chuck Inglish, and Big Twins. 9Five also released a couple pairs of glasses exclusive to the project, and with them comes the vinyl for Yacht Rock. Album Review: Gangrene, Vodka & Ayahuasca

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, February 2, 2012 by Tim Althaus

Before Alchemist and Oh No released Gutter Water, I wasn’t sure what to think; any time that two producing emcees collaborate on a project, I’m almost certainly going to compare their effort to Champion Sound by Jaylib. I still remember picking up my copy of Gutter Water the day that it came out, and I also remember being completely blown away. There was one immediate thought that came to my mind: Should I pour bleach into my ears to clean out the filth that I had just been subject to? Listening to Gutter Water is the equivalent of bathing in raw sewage without putting in ear plugs. On Vodka & Ayahuasca, Oh No and Alchemist casually continue the trend of mind marauding with pavement pounding beats and raised rhyming skills. Continue reading

Video: Gangrene (Alchemist & Oh No), “Vodka & Ayahuasca Will Blow Your Mind”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Thursday, January 12, 2012 by Tim Althaus

Alan the Chemist and Oh No have teamed up to release a sophomore LP to follow up their 2010 debut Gutter Water. From the sounds of “Vodka & Ayahuasca Will Blow Your Mind”, things really haven’t changed a whole lot since Gutter Water; this album is going to be based around super dope beats and grimey ass lyrics. The video doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter. You can jump over to Amazon to pre-order Vodka & Ayahuasca here.

Alchemist Talks: Chemical Warfare, Step Brothers, Hats & Ping Pong

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, September 25, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Man, every time Alchemist says something he makes me laugh my ass off. He’s probably one of the funniest guys in Hip-Hop. You should definitely watch this one for a few good laughs. AL talks about his new album Chemical Warfare (in stores now), his collaboration with Evidence (Step Brothers), the hats that he wears in the game & how he is ridiculous at ping pong. Fucking love it.

fashawn2

Here is yet another cut from Fashawn & Alchemist off of the mixtape The Antidote, which drops tomorrow. This track is called “Lost in New York”, and it comes to us from Meka over at 2DopeBoyz. Much like the track I posted yesterday, “Fash Plays it Cool“, Fashawn shows off that liquid smooth flow of his over some incredible Alchemist beats. I can’t wait for this mixtape to drop tomorrow, you know you will be able to find it here.

Album Review: Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Raekwon-Only_Built_4_Cuban_Linx_2 Wu-Tang has been one of the greatest dynasties that Hip-Hop has ever seen. Just about every group album has been stellar, not to mention that every solo album is top notch quality. Raekwon comes into Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 fourteen years after the original Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, which, to this day is a classic. The aforementioned information may pose the question: Is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 as good as the original? The answer, in my opinion, is a definite yes. I took one run through this album in my car, and I knew immediately I was listening to a classic . Raekwon brings along an all-star cast of producers and emcees to “cook up”, without a doubt, one of the best albums of 2009. Creating a magnificent masterpiece that is just as good as it’s predecessor is no easy task, but as OB4CL2 shows, for The Chef it comes naturally. Continue reading

“Fash Plays it Cool”

Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags , , , , , on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 by Tim Althaus

The Antidote

Thanks to Shake for the heads-up on this gem. As I mentioned in an earlier post, Fashawn is going to be putting out a mixtape entitled The Antidote that is solely produced by Alchemist. This is the first leak off of the mixtape, and it is called “Fash Plays it Cool”. This track is incredibly fresh, and it makes me want to hear the finished project even more. Fashawn is one of the dopest emcees on the West Coast right now, and as you know Alchemist is very nice with the beats. These two getting together is something that should happen way more often. Even though I’ve said it at least a million times, make sure you go out and get Boy Meets World when it drops on October 20th.
