Talk about an amazing group. The Foreign Exchange has been one of my favorite groups over the past few years, and it’s because not many people mesh as well as Phonte & Nicolay. I had given the album Leave it all Behind some rough comments, but since then I have learned to love the album a great deal. The video for “House of Cards” (Feat. Muhsinah) is nothing short of incredible, everything is pristine from the production to the concept. It just might be up there with “House of Flying Daggers” for one of the top videos of the year.

wildstyle

This is an idea that I have been thinking about for the last month or so. Wild Style  is a “throw back” if you will, and a classic that will never be forgotten in Hip-Hop. What I want to do every Wednesday here at Mind Inversion is review an album that in my opinion is a classic, or rather an album I will never forget. In another note all of the albums that I review are going to have been released before 2008. I hope you guys enjoy my weekly column, and if you have any comments please feel free to leave them.

The Foreign Exchange in Miami Parts 1&2

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Thursday, April 2, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I found these videos over at Nicolay Music the other day when I was browsing the site. Let me tell you that Phonte is one of the funniest motherfuckers I’ve ever seen on video. In the first video he talks about what the fans have enabled Foreign Exchange to do, and makes an allusion to slavery. In the second video he talks about how sometimes, you just have to forget everything else and reflect. I love how Te informs you but adds a humorous twist to it. Follow me after the jump to watch part 2. Continue reading

This is the first single off of the new Foreign Exchange album Leave It All Behind. I have been listening to this album on and off for a little while now, and the only conclusion that I can come to is that it’s definitely different. The last album Connected was a good mixture of Hip-Hop/R&B/Soul. Leave It All Behind is very Soul & R&B influenced with very little Hip-Hop. This album for the most part has Phonte singing, which is something that is definitely different for me but I really enjoy it. It’s nice to hear an artists almost out of his element (not doing what he usually does) and trying something that is a little different. From what I have heard this album is very good. I will have a review up soon enough for you guys to get to.

You can jump over to the Foreign Exchange site and get the Leave It All Behind Sampler to get a taste of what I am talking about.

Foreign Exchange Put Out Sophomore LP: Leave It All Behind

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , on Thursday, October 9, 2008 by Tim Althaus

European beat sensation Nicolay and Little Brother emcee Phonte (together as Foreign Exchange) just realeased the digital copy of Leave It All Behind on Tuesday (The hard copy comes out on the 10th in Europe and the 14th in the States). Phonte has been on the scene since Little Brother go together back in 1998. Nicolay and Phonte starting making music back in 2004 with the Foreign Exchange album Connected that debuted on record label BBE. The first album they put out was truly an innovation to the genre of Hip-Hop, but also to genres such as soul and R&B. If Leave It All Behind is anything like Connected was we may have another classic on our hands folks. I highly encourage you to go out and get the digital copy or purchase the album when it comes out on October 14th. You can be sure that once I get a good listen of this album I will have a full review up.
