Do You Know How Good it Feels To Be Back?
Posted in Off Topic, Random, Video with tags Awesome, mind inversion, XV on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by Tim AlthausVideo: Madlib & Freddie Gibbs, “Thuggin”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Freddie Gibbs, Hip-Hop, Madlib, Stones Throw, Thuggin' EP on Tuesday, January 17, 2012 by Tim AlthausIt’s about time Gangsta Gibbs & Madlib dropped some visuals from their collaborative EP; they released a teaser last week, but I’m usually not too big on posting those. I woke up this morning to a Facebook wall post from one of my musical comrades, and needless to say I was very surprised that it was the video for “Thuggin”. This is one of the most gutter tracks I’ve heard in a long time. Madlib’s beat full of sequential strings is relatively simple, but it gives Freddie Gibbs the perfect canvas to spray blood, sweat and tears on. I can not wait to hear more material from these two; it’s blatantly obvious that they are a deadly duo.
M.i, “Crawl Back” (From The Coldplay Sessions)
Posted in Audio, Media, Video with tags Coldplay Sessions, Hip-Hop, Jack Johnson Sessions, M.i, Prep Time, texas on Monday, January 16, 2012 by Tim AlthausAustin, Texas native M.i dropped some new heat from his upcoming mixtape The Coldplay Sessions which is slated to drop on February 7th of next month. The Coldplay Sessions will be a follow-up to his last two mixtapes The Jack Johnson Sessions and Prep Time, both of which are fantastic releases; in fact, Prep Time was on of my top five favorite mixtapes last year. “Crawl Back” gives the listeners everything that they’ve become accustomed to hearing when listening to M.i: beautiful soul sample based beats and M.i’s signature laid back flow. The thing that impresses me most is that M.i does all of his own production, mixing and arranging on The Coldplay Sessions. The tape will contain fourteen brand new tracks that contain sample flips from Coldplay songs, and M.i will be putting his own spin on each cut.

Many of you may recall that M.i won a contest put on by the people of HipHopDX and Crooks & Castles to be featured on an exclusive beat created by the Grammy Award winning production collective The J.U.S.T.I.C.E League. His entry, “Maybe I” was a certified heat rock, and it can be viewed below.
Common Performs “Celebrate” on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon
Posted in Media, Video with tags Chicago, Common, Hip-Hop, Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, No I.D., The Dreamer/The Believer, The Roots on Friday, January 13, 2012 by Tim Althaus
Common recently dropped by Late Night With Jimmy Fallon to perform his most recent single “Celebrate” off his latest album The Dreamer/The Believer; as usual, the Roots did an amazing job of bringing the instrumentals put forth by No I.D. to life. “Celebrate” is by far my favorite track off of The Dreamer/The Believer; to me, it’s the epitome of a feel-good song, and furthermore, it’s the type of track that makes me proud to be a fan of Hip-Hop.
Even though The Dreamer/The Believer was a late entry into the releases of 2011, it was arguably one of the best albums of the year, and I haven’t stopped listening to it since I got my hands on it; the album truly takes me back to the days of Like Water for Chocolate. The chemistry displayed between Common and No I.D. is unreal.

Video: Classified (Feat. Joe Budden), “Unusual”
Posted in Media, Video with tags canada, Classified, Handshakes & Middle Fingers, Hip-Hop, Joe Budden, Unusual on Friday, January 13, 2012 by Tim AlthausWhat a great thing to come home to after a long ass day at work. Classified released the visuals for his latest single “Unusual” which was on last year’s Handshakes & Middle Fingers; the cut features Jump-Off Joe Beezy and a brain bruising beat complete with a perfectly utilized sample. “Unusual” is one of my favorite cuts off one of my favorite albums of 2011. I’ve said it time and time again, but Classified is one of the most consistent guys in Hip-Hop over the last 5 years; everything this guy does is well above average, and I feel like he’s going to keep making noise for the Canadian scene. If you haven’t, I highly suggest you go out and cop Handshakes & Middlefingers… yesterday.
Video: Gangrene (Alchemist & Oh No), “Vodka & Ayahuasca Will Blow Your Mind”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Alchemist, Gangrene, Gutter Water, Oh No, Vodka & Ayahuasca on Thursday, January 12, 2012 by Tim AlthausAlan the Chemist and Oh No have teamed up to release a sophomore LP to follow up their 2010 debut Gutter Water. From the sounds of “Vodka & Ayahuasca Will Blow Your Mind”, things really haven’t changed a whole lot since Gutter Water; this album is going to be based around super dope beats and grimey ass lyrics. The video doesn’t make a whole lot of sense to me, but in the grand scheme of things, it really doesn’t matter. You can jump over to Amazon to pre-order Vodka & Ayahuasca here.

Video: Skyzoo, “Could’ve Struck the Lotto”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Hip-Hop, Lyricism, Skyzoo on Wednesday, January 11, 2012 by Tim AlthausI was on Twitter yesterday when I noticed that Skyzoo was getting a lot of tweets about a new video; it turns out that everyone was buzzing about the visuals for the track “Could’ve Struck the Lotto” from his most recent outing The Great Debater. In my opinion, Skyzoo is one of the top three emcees in the game right now. The way he writes his material is incredible; I love having to go back and peruse through his albums so I can delve further and solidify my understanding of what’s being said. Do yourself a favor and check out this top tier lyricist.

Video: Kam Moye, “Splitting Image”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Kam Moye, Splitting Image, Supastition on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Tim AlthausThis is another video that I’m very ecstatic about. I have to start off by saying that I criminally slept on Kam Moye’s album Splitting Image, and I definitely payed for it; I can honestly say that it’s one of my favorite albums right now. Many of you may be wondering who Kam Moye is… He is also known as Supastition. Kam Moye can spit his ass off, and his lyrics are truly something else. I’m pumped as hell that Kam came out with a video for the title track on the album. “Splitting Image” is one of the deepest and most personal songs I’ve heard in a long time, and the video is equally as good.
Video: Reflection Eternal, “In This World”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Hi-Tek, In This World, Reflection Eternal, Revolutions Per Minute, Talib Kweli on Wednesday, March 10, 2010 by Tim AlthausYeah I know, I’ve been behind the curve this last week, but talk about amazing visuals for an amazing track. A little while back I posted Kweli & Hi-Tek’s first single, “In This World”, off of their new album Revolutions Per Minute, and this is the music video for the same track. The video is directed by Punit Deshi who also directed the video for The Soul Asssassins track “Classical”; Dehsi is one of the best music video directors I’ve seen in a long time. Man, I love every single aspect of this video; there isn’t one thing I don’t like. I am anxiously counting down the days until April 6th is finally here.
Video: Elzhi, “Deep”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Black Milk, Deep, Elzhi, Gerard Victor Atillo, The Leftovers (Unmixedtape) on Monday, March 8, 2010 by Tim AlthausHere are the visuals from Elzhi’s track “Deep” off of the Leftovers (Unmixedtape). I’ve said this time and time again, but I think Elzhi is one of the best emcees on the planet; there are very few cats that can rhyme as well as he does. With the last mixtape dropping, it makes me wonder if we are ever going to see Elmatic? Either way, this video is dope as hell and so is Elzhi. The track has Black Milk on the beat, and the video was directed by Gerard Victor Atillo.
