Soundset 2012 Announced!

Posted in Concert Dates, News with tags , , , , , , , , , , on Monday, March 5, 2012 by Tim Althaus

Sorry for the delay in my posting lately folks, but I’ve been swamped in my personal life. Anyways, I was at work today when I got about 3 different text messages pertaining to this year’s Soundset Festival in Shakopee, MN. Let me tell you right now, my heart dropped when I saw this lineup; it is utterly fantastic. I went to the initial reincarnation of Soundset in 2008, and it’s one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. I also went in 2009, but I haven’t been back since because I wasn’t as enthused about the lineup as I had been in past years.

This year they have truly outdone themselves; I can’t even express how excited I am about this lineup. Some of the artists (just to name a few) include Atmosphere (as always), Aesop Rock, Evidence, Big K.R.I.T., Ghostface Killah & Raekwon, Danny Brown, DJ Premier, Kendrick Lamar, hometown heroes Audio Perm and more. Tickets will be on sale this Saturday, March 10th at 11AM, and I can assure you I will be picking up a VIP ticket stat. General admission is going to be $41, and VIP will be $90. I hope to see you all there!

Meth x Ghost x Rae, The Wu Massacre (Artwork & Tracklisting)

Posted in Album Update, Music News with tags , , , , , on Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Tim Althaus

Talk about the definition of epic. I’m pretty sure this album was suppose to come out right before Christmas, but nonetheless, here we are with some official artwork and a tracklisting. The thing that gets me is that there are no producer credits listed by the tracks; this is going to drive me nuts. I really want to know who is producing on this album. There is no official release date yet either, but I’m sure we will hear soon enough. Follow me after the jump for the tracklisting. Continue reading

My 2010 Dilla Day Mix

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Tim Althaus

I don’t know if you guys were readers last year around this time, but I did this exact same thing. I am a huge fan of J Dilla; he is a huge inspiration to me. I actually made this mix on what would have been Dilla’s 36th birthday. I took a lot of time thinking about what tracks would go smoothly together, but I also thought about what tracks of his were among my favorites. The outcome? 23 tracks of straight unadulterated Jay Dee goodness.

I figured I would post this mix here because I really want everyone to be able to have it; it’s nothing big, but if one more person starts to listen to Dilla because of it, then I’ve done my job. James Yancey really was the king of the beats, and his presence is strongly missed in the music world. All of the tracks on this mix are either produced by or featuring J Dilla (with the exception of one).

(R.I.P. J Dilla February 7th, 1974 – February 10th, 2006)

Album Review: Raekwon, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , on Wednesday, September 9, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Raekwon-Only_Built_4_Cuban_Linx_2 Wu-Tang has been one of the greatest dynasties that Hip-Hop has ever seen. Just about every group album has been stellar, not to mention that every solo album is top notch quality. Raekwon comes into Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 fourteen years after the original Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, which, to this day is a classic. The aforementioned information may pose the question: Is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 as good as the original? The answer, in my opinion, is a definite yes. I took one run through this album in my car, and I knew immediately I was listening to a classic . Raekwon brings along an all-star cast of producers and emcees to “cook up”, without a doubt, one of the best albums of 2009. Creating a magnificent masterpiece that is just as good as it’s predecessor is no easy task, but as OB4CL2 shows, for The Chef it comes naturally. Continue reading

Ghostface Interview With Thisis50

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I never get sick of hearing news about Ghostface, because the guy is a fucking beast and a legend. Thisis50.com recently sat down with Ghost Deini himself, and discussed a few key issues. He discusses how much he has learned being in the game, and how he wishes he knew back then what he knows now. He also discusses his relationship with the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan. He says that the Clan is cool, but it seems like they don’t really see each other as much as they used to because of solo work. Another thing that Ghost discusses is how Staten Island is different from the rest of the Burroughs in New York. Also make sure you listen to Ghost ring in on the current state of Hip-Hop, he makes some damn good points about the industry.

Wild Style Wednesday Review: GZA, Liquid Swords

Posted in Music Reviews, Wildstyle Wednesdays with tags , , , , , , , , , on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 by Tim Althaus

GZA-LiquidSwordsWu-Tang Clan is one of the most influential groups in the history of Hip-Hop music. GZA (in my opinion) is the best emcee (although they are all incredible) in the group, so it would make sense to say that he is one of the most influential emcees of all-time. The album Liquid Swords is nothing short of a lauded lyrical masterpiece, and every single track on this album is sonically sound. Not only is this one of the greatest Wu-Tang related albums ever released, it is one of the greatest albums in Hip-Hop history. RZA’s production on this album is ridiculous, not to mention the samples on this album fit the tracks tighter than a hipster’s t-shirt, and GZA’s rhymes are legendary in every aspect of the word. Raekwon, “House of Flying Daggers”(Featuring Inspectah Deck, Method Man & Ghostface) (Prod By J Dilla) (Video)

This video might seriously get my nod for video of the year. I posted the teaser trailer earlier, but this video decimates all expectations. The animation on this video are purely pristine, and it’s directed very well. This is definitely a video that you don’t want to miss. Is it just me or is Wu taking over the interhighway today?
