After this weekend’s drunken barbeque shenanigans and debauchery—where I was lucky enough to hear some tracks off of Homeless and Big Cats new album The Polar Bear Rug, I thought I would shamelessly plug their upcoming local event, and promote some actual go-getters in the wonderful city of Minneapolis.

So, here it is: Coming to Icehouse, Saturday, August 1st, is Homeless and Big Cats record release party! (Facebook Event Page)

Now, I would strongly advise you go, because from what I’ve heard so far on The Polar Bear Rug (which features: P.O.S., Toki Wright, Mally, Eric Mayson, and Lydia Liza), these songs would be great to see performed live.

This will be an exciting event, one not to be missed. Also, in case you can’t make the performance, a person can acquire the album free here through these nifty sites:

Soundcloud , Bandcamp , iTunes , Spotify .

Yeap, get it and go! Have a fun day.

Live @ The Warehouse in La Crosse Tonight…

Posted in Concert Dates with tags , , , , , , on Thursday, March 4, 2010 by Tim Althaus

This looks to be a promising show folks; I’m really kicking myself in the ass because I forgot to ask off of work for it, so now I’m stuck working (FML). Toki Wright is bringing his nationwide Black Belt Tour to La Crosse, and my boys Hyphon & Efftupp will be the opening acts; also, the young phenom Enable Mind will be doing his thing for the audience and opening. Toki also brought along Haziq Ali and Omaur Bliss who are joining him on the road for the tour. The Doors open at 7 tickets are only $7 at the door. If you are in the La Crosse area you probably want to check this show out. Trust me.

*Above I have links to all of the artist’s websites above, and below I have Hyphon & Efftupp’s mix Hurry Up & Wait Vol. 1.

Brother Ali, Evidence, Toki Wright & BK-One, “Freshest Kids” (Track Download x Video)

First of all, let me start off by saying that “Freshest Kids” might be the track of the year. This shit is just plain ridiculous. I posted a video of Brother Ali & Toki recording this track a little while back, and this is the finished product. The beat on this track is incredible and all three emcees spits verses so hot it might leave your ears with third degree burns. I gotta give it up to BK-One, he’s concocted one of the best beats I’ve heard this year with this track. I’m bowing to these guys right now. And to think, they only recorded this track just for the tour… make sure you catch these guys when they come to your city, it’s going to be one hell of a show.

Brother Ali & Toki Wright, Behind the Scenes in the Studio

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, September 11, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Damn this shit sounds like it is going to go hard as hell. Here is some footage of Brother Ali & Toki Wright in the studio during the making of a new track featuring Evidence entitled “The Freshest Kids”. Apparently they are making this track for the “Fresh Air Tour”, which I already have my tickets for (and you should to). If I may mention, the beat on this track sounds beyond sick. Also, listen for Toki going in at the end of the track, “Inglorious Bastards/enjoying this action, make audience backspin/kick like a 44 magnum, ribbed like a trojan magnum package/I’m askin’ how the kid rappin’ above average”. DAMN.

BK-One, “Here I Am” (Feat. Phonte, Brother Ali & The Grouch)

Radio Do Canibal

Have I ever mentioned that Minneapolis Hip-Hop is the shit? BK-One, who is  Brother Ali’s tour DJ, will be dropping his new album Rádio Do Canibal with Benzilla on October 6th. This is the first leak off of the project and it features MPLS native Brother Ali, Phonte & The Grouch. The beat on this track is bananas, and it’s definitely something I could see myself listening to on a regular basis. It sounds like this project is going to be nothing short of amazing, and it will have a star studded cast of emcees. Over the instrumentals you will hear: Black Thought, Brother Ali, Phonte, The Grouch, Murs, Slug, Raekwon, Blueprint, P.O.S., Blueprint, Toki Wright & many more. You can go over to Fifth Element and pre-order the album now, which is probably a good idea. Follow me after the jump to download the track and peep the tracklisting. Continue reading

Details Surrounding Brother Ali’s Us are Revealed

brotherali1Brother Ali already released the critically acclaimed Truth Is Here EP this year, and now he is gearing up to release his full length Us which is due out this fall. Ali isn’t usually known for large amounts of guest appearances on his albums, but on this outting we will see more than we usually do. Joining him on the mic will be Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz & Stokely Williams. There is no word yet on the production for the album, but knowing Ali’s traditional formula I’m guessing Ant will have a huge role in this one. Those 2 have never made a miss, always hits but I wouldn’t mind seeing Jake One adding some of his pristine production to the bill.

Brother Ali is touring with Evidence & Toki Wright this fall in support of the new album, as well as Evidence’s new album Cats & Dogs. You can follow me after the jump for the tour dates. Continue reading
