Today, Brother Ali and Rhymesayers Entertainment launched Brother Ali’s brand new website www.brotherali.com to help promote the September 22nd release Us. The site has all the usual stuff plus a place where you can leave personal stories for Ali to read and connect with the fans (of course with a few ground rules to prevent the rowdy interneters).

To sit here and tell everyone that reads this blog that God Loves Ugly is an album that didn’t influence me, is a total lie. I’m almost certain I was in 10th grade the first time that I heard the song “Godlovesugly”, all I was thinking was “Who in the fuck is this?”. When I heard that the emcee brilliantly blessing the microphone was from Minneapolis, I simply couldn’t believe it. This album introduced me to the whole world of the Rhymesayers Crew, and if it were for that reason alone I would still never forget this album. What God Loves Ugly showed me, more than anything, is that great talent is much closer to home than you may think. Yeah Slug may rap about women a little too much, and yeah his ego might come off a little bigger than it should be… but dude has mad skills on the mic. Continue reading

Above this post is the artwork for Ali’s new album Us. If you haven’t yet, make sure you pre-order the album here. Sounds like this album is shaping up to be yet another fine piece of work from Ali.

Freeway Goes From “The Old To The New”

The Philly Freezer is back with another masterful cut produced by the proidgal son Jake One. According to the 2DopeBoyz article I read this track, “Old To The New”, will be on Freeway’s upcoming mixtape The Beat Made Me Do It. Brother Ali already released the critically acclaimed Truth Is Here EP this year, and now he is gearing up to release his full length Us which is due out this fall. Ali isn’t usually known for large amounts of guest appearances on his albums, but on this outting we will see more than we usually do. Joining him on the mic will be Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz & Stokely Williams. There is no word yet on the production for the album, but knowing Ali’s traditional formula I’m guessing Ant will have a huge role in this one. Those 2 have never made a miss, always hits but I wouldn’t mind seeing Jake One adding some of his pristine production to the bill.

EV also talks about his last few efforts (The Weatherman LP, The LAyover EP), what he feels like moving to Rhymesayers, why he wanted to go there & a lot more. This is still a subject that I am completely in awe over, might be one of the best moves I’ve ever heard of. I might be a little biased, because as you all know I’m a huge fucking Evidence fan. Like Evidence says on the video, RSE is one hell of a family when it comes to music, and to be honest I think he can only help strengthen that family. You best believe I’m on the hunt for those pre-sale tickets people.

I’ve been waiting to hear these words pretty much this whole year. As you can see above, Evidence just signed a multi-record deal with powerhouse label Rhymesayers Entertainment. You heard it, Cats & Dogs will be coming out on Rhymesayers Entertainment. I can’t tell you how truly happy I am to hear this news, I’ve been wondering if Rhymesayers was going to end up being a home for EV for awhile now. I almost feel as though this is a little bit surreal and I can’t figure out why. The one thing I can figure out, and do know, is that Evidence & Rhymesayers Entertainment are going to be taking over the game in 2010. Make sure you watch out for EV on tour with Brother Ali this fall.
