New Flight of the Conchords- Season 2 premiere!

Posted in Concert Dates, Video with tags , , , , , on Thursday, December 18, 2008 by Erik Burg

flight_of_the_conchords1The music market might be slumping, seeing as it is the middle of the winter and nobody dares to release anything important this time of year, but the t.v. gods delivered a nice little gift today. The Flight of the Conchords, New Zealand’s fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo acapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo, have released the Season 2 premiere via Funny or Die. The half an hour long episode feels much like anything you watched last season, which means tones of laughs and, of course, plenty of music. (oh yeah, and the funniest shirts/sweaters you’ll ever see courtesy of Brett). I won’t give away anything, just watch the episode for yourself! Sadly no news yet on when the next episode of Albi the Racist Dragon will appear.

Rain Or Shine

Here is some videos of EV performing some of his new material off of his new release The LAyover EP. Of course it looks like it’s a live ass show. If you didn’t go out and pick up The LAyover EP, do it now because if you don’t you are going to regret it.

This video was taken on the third of this month at the Red Bull Big Tune Beat Battle finals in New York. Ghost rips through some classic Wu-Tang material such as “C.R.E.A.M.” and “Ice Cream”. Go peep the new Ghostface compilation Ghost Deini The Great. Props to C-Sick for winning the Championships (the kid is 17).

For those of you who have never heard DJ Exile, you are missing out. This guy has some mad skills on the MPC. He put out an album with Blu last year entitled Below the Heavens which in my opinion was one of last year’s best albums. He has a new album Radio due out on January 20th. This guy actually does live MPC shows where he will sample and make a beat right in front of the crowd. Exile is disgusting, check this shit out…

This video is for a track that came out on the Jurassic 5 re-release of the always classic Jurassic 5 EP. On the new and improved version of the EP you get 15 additional tracks (the original tracklist is included) and a dvd with videos. This is one of the videos that is on the DVD. As usual J5 comes out with some hard hitting drums and some great horns. All of these guys just rip this beat apart like fresh meat.

Video: These Arms Are Snakes, “Red Line Season”

Posted in Video with tags , on Wednesday, December 10, 2008 by Ryan Buege

These Arms Are Snakes take us on a ride through their acid soaked minds in their new video for the song “Red Line Season” from their new album Tail Swallower and Dove. Brilliant stuff; the directors, Artificial Army, did a great job with this one! The combination of shocking, unfamiliar imagery and a fiery soundtrack from TAAS began to fuel a thick current of blood, noticeably pumping through my veins. Even now, ALL of my senses feel like they’re on heightened alert – and I didn’t even drop any acid.

Here is another interview with Pharoahe Monch. This one is back stage on the Scion Live Metro Tour and is conducted by Senor Kaos. In this interview he talks about influences, his album Desire and what is to come in the future. He has some very interesting input on the future for himself and I can’t wait to see what that turns into.

Skillz is an emcee that is based out of the mighty D (Detroit), and he has been known to tear apart a microphone. He has ghostwritten songs for many of the emcees that people adore in the mainstream media. This is an interesting interview that he did for KarmaLoopTV in which he talks about a variety of topics. One of them being J Dilla. He says in the interview that he was the first emcee (on a major) to buy a beat from Dilla. He also says that he passed on some of the biggest hits that Dilla ever produced. This guy can really do his thing, and I can see why Dilla liked working with him. Continue reading

Video: Just Blaze – How to Chop Samples

If you are wondering what the world of chopping samples and making beautiful Hip-Hop music is all about, this is the guy that you want to learn from. Just Blaze has been one of the most innovative and well respected producers in the game for a long while now, and even has his own label called Fort Knocks Entertainment. This guy makes some of the most disgusting hard hitting instrumental beats I’ve ever heard. He has been doing things for some of the biggest names in the business (Jay-Z, Freeway, Ghostface, Kanye West & many others), and has also been pushing Jay Electronica and Saigon. Just Blaze has a great ear, and he has some of the best skills out on the boards at this time. Watch this video and learn from one of the greats.

Also: Look for Jay Elec at the end of the video.
