KiD CuDi – Make Her Say (feat. Kanye West & Common) Video

Posted in Media, News, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, July 20, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This song has been flying around the internet for months and finally has a real video. If you haven’t heard it, it’s called “Make Her Say” by Kid Cudi and features fellow G.O.O.D. music members Kanye and Common (Kanye’s verse is killer!). The song samples Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” chopped up to make it sound like “Poke Her Face”. It’s fantastic. This is the official video. Look out for Kid Cudi’s September 15th release Man on the Moon.

Shout out to 2dopeboyz for the find.

Blue Scholars to Drop New EP in August

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , on Monday, July 20, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Blue ScholarsOne of my favorite West Coast duos,  Blue Scholars, will be releasing a new EP on August 25th. These guys have been reppin’ hard for Seattle for the last 5 or so years. I unfortunately found out about these guys way too late when I read an article in Spin magazine last year. I immediately picked up their album Bayani and fell in love with that shit. Geo and Sabzi are one hell of a combo together and all of their music is top notch. Sabzi makes some of the dopest beats that have come out of the left coast in a while, and Geo’s political and conscious rhymes make me feel moved everytime I give their music a spin.

I found out about these guys last year, and their music has been on very heavy rotation ever since I’ve gotten into them. If you love good Hip-Hop there is no reason you should be sleeping on Blue Scholars. Make sure you stay tuned at Mind Inversion because I will definitely have a review up.

Editors Note*: According to the Blue Scholars Twitter Page, they will also be dropping a new full length in 2010.

Lily Allen – 22 (Video)

Lily Allen’s new video for the song “22” off one of my favorite albums of this year, It’s Not Me, It’s You. The song is about how the media portrays her as old and washed up because “she’s nearly 30” (which isn’t really true). I highly recommend the album, musicaly it’s fantastic. Also check out her other videos for “Fuck You” and “Not Fair”.

Happy Birthday Hunter S. Thompson…

Posted in News with tags , , , , on Saturday, July 18, 2009 by Tim Althaus

hunter s thompson-1 Today would have been Hunter S. Thompson’s 72nd birthday. I still remember hearing about Hunter’s death like it was yesterday. I couldn’t believe what had just happened, to me Hunter was one of the greatest writers that ever graced a piece of paper. His “gonzo” style of journalism is unparalleled by any other writer, and I get a great kick out of his writing. I am on a personal journey right now to try and consume every book that this man has put out. More so than any other writer of read works by, Hunter keeps me on the edge of my seat every time I read one of his books. The way that he sucks you right into the action is amazing, and you feel like you should be right there with him.

The book Hell’s Angels is one of the best books that I’ve ever read, the way that Hunter gave insight into (at the time) one of the most revered gangs in the country is incredible. He went to great efforts to make sure that the American people understood that the Angel’s really were no different than you or me. Hunter got severely beaten at the end of the whole ordeal, proof that he was surely dedicated to his profession. His fascinatingly factorial book Fear Loathing in Las Vegas sparked a Hollywood movie with Johnny Depp. During the end of his career he was writing for ESPN at the front desk giving his views on the sports which he loved so much.

Hunter inspired generations of writers, actors and musicians because he wasn’t afraid to admit who he truly was. Hunter once said, “I’d hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence or insanity to anyone, but they’ve always worked for me”. I don’t think that there is any other line that could sum Hunter up as well as the aforementioned statement.

Hunter S. Thompson really was one of God’s prototypes. A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

E&A perform the track “Burn Fetish” from their new album on Rhymesayers entitled By the Throat which drops on Tuesday (7/21). I just got my copy in the mail and I’m not particularly thrilled with it, but this is still a cool video. The performance was filmed at Intermedia Arts in Minneapolis.

This is the Day I’ve Been Waiting For…

Posted in Music News, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, July 17, 2009 by Tim Althaus

That’s right folks, it appears as though the sickest cat in the game just got sicker. I’ve been waiting to hear these words pretty much this whole year. As you can see above, Evidence just signed a multi-record deal with powerhouse label Rhymesayers Entertainment. You heard it, Cats & Dogs will be coming out on Rhymesayers Entertainment. I can’t tell you how truly happy I am to hear this news, I’ve been wondering if Rhymesayers was going to end up being a home for EV for awhile now. I almost feel as though this is a little bit surreal and I can’t figure out why. The one thing I can figure out, and do know, is that Evidence & Rhymesayers Entertainment are going to be taking over the game in 2010. Make sure you watch out for EV on tour with Brother Ali this fall.

Wu-Tang beef with Joe Budden escalates at Rock the Bells 2009

Posted in Media, News, Video with tags , , , , , on Thursday, July 16, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

After Joe Budden dissed Method Man’s lyrical abilities, Inspectah Deck released a song in retaliation and here at Rock the Bells ’09 in DC, Deck and Raekwon talk about their beef with Joe Budden. Personally, I don’t think this is the way to handle the problem, complaining about him on stage after quesitoning Budden’s “manliness” for not confronting them in person. After the stage performance, Raekwon sits down with undergroundhiphop.com to discuss the beef.

New Mr. J. Medeiros Video – “Holding On”

Posted in News with tags , , , on Monday, July 13, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Shout out to Okayplayer for this one. Mr. J. Medeiros of the extinct Procussions has become a prominent solo artist in my opinion. His first album, 2007’s Of Gods and Girls was incredible (please go check it out if you haven’t). He’s a lyrical, conscious MC from LA via Colorado Springs with some excellent producers. Above is the video for the track “Holding On” featuring Tara Ellis. The song will appear on his upcoming album Friends Enemies Apples Apples due out in September. Check it out!
