Evidence goes to the far left once again

Posted in Downloads, Media, Video with tags , , , on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 by Tim Althaus

ev-2 Here we are with another straight fire laced track by Evidence featuring Fashawn and Alchemist. As you may recall, both of these two emcees complimented Evdience on the original “Far Left“, and “The Far Left 2” is no different. I have to say that out of the three emcees on this track (with no disrespect to any of them) Fashawn steps up his game the most. Fashawn is one of those cats that you are going to be hearing me talk about quite a bit (especially when Boy Wonder drops) in the future.

All of these cats have new projects coming out this year so make sure you watch out for those because every single one of these albums is going to be top fucking quality. “The Far Left” is taking over Hip-Hop this year it seems.

You can download the track here.

The Alchemist Teaches His Chemistry To Akai Pro

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , , , on Monday, March 9, 2009 by Tim Althaus

alchemist560 As I’ve mentioned before, Alchemist is one of the best producers in the game right now. Al sat down with the good people of Akai Pro and talked to them about many things, and one of them being how he uses the MPC for production. As many of you may or may not know, Al has been doing tracks for everybody from Mobb Deep to Ludacris in the last 10 years. He is also going to be putting out 3 albums this year (Chemical Warfare, Step Brothers (with Evidence) & Grangrene (with Oh No)) which is a staggering statistic as it is, because everything Al puts out is quality.

The interview probes into a lot of interesting areas of Al’s production. He goes into great detail when he ‘s talking about why legendary producers have always used the MPC for production, but in general he says: “[The] MPC always has and always will be the standard as far as when you’re talking about rap, beats and production. You know, my favorite producers from day one were Premier – MPC. Pete Rock? MPC. Diamond D? MPC. I mean I could go down the list forever. It’s pretty much the standard. It’s good to be able to even follow in those footsteps and keep that tradition going forward. You know, making music that comes out of that machine it sounds crazy.”

Make sure you check out this interview and get all the details because it’s a great insight into the mind of a genius. You can read the original interview here, and make sure you stay tuned to all of the info on the Alchemist’s up and coming projects here on Mind Inversion.

Evidence and Alchemist are “Step Brothers” in the lab…

Posted in News, Video with tags , , , , , on Sunday, March 1, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I don’t know about you readers out there, but this video makes me claw with anticipation. As many of you know, Evidence & Alchemist are putting out an album together as the group “Step Brothers”. This is one of my highest anticipated releases of this year (besides EV’s Cats & Dogs) because both of these guys are incredibly talented musicians. Not only are they incredibly talented, but they are two of my favorite artists in the Hip-Hop game right now. EV & ALC are also two of the hardest working cats in the game right now. Evidence has the Step Brothers album as well as the Cats & Dogs album, and Alchemist has potentially three albums due out this year (Step Brothers, Chemical Warfare & Gangrene (which is a side project with Oh No)).

This video is only 48 seconds long, but it’s definitely enough for me to know that this album is going to be classic material. Make sure you stay tuned to Mind Inversion for all of the latest news and updates on both Evidence & Alchemist as well as the progress on these albums.

XLR8R TV Episode 95: The Alchemist

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Alchemist is a guy that really needs no introduction. He’s been behind some of the best produced Hip-Hop for the last 15 or so years. He is also lifelong friend of Evidence with whom he will be releasing an album entitled Step Brothers. This is a good interview, and after watching this I think that Alchemist is pretty much a genius. The way that he relates him making music to art is unreal (him talking about making a “collage” beat), and he puts an awful lot of thought into his beats when he is making them for other artists. If you haven’t make sure you go out and get The Alchemist Cookbook EP which is out now.

Here is a video of Evidence freestyling over a classic beat by Alchemist at Fat Beats during an instore. Notice that EV is great when it comes to rhymes off the top of the head. This guy has absolutely torn the game apart the last two years and it’s no wonder. He’s a beast.

Album Review: Evidence, The LAyover EP

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 by Tim Althaus

the-layover-epWhat can I say? You people that have been reading this blog, have been listening to me blabber about Evidence from day one. The LAyover EP drops today and suffice to say I already have my copy. I will also say that it’s only 10 tracks long and it might be the best money you will have spent all year on music. This EP is so sound that I can’t find one adjective to describe it (perfect is at the tip of my tongue). Evidence has been single-handedly taking over the Hip-Hop game (with the occasional nod from Alchemist) the last two years and this EP is a perfect example. I also want to say that in the last year we have been hearing a lot of Hip-Hop groups that we all love going towards a very electronic feel (not that it’s bad, but everyone is doing it), and EV sticks to the traditional Hip-Hop sound (samples and straight boom bap) for the most part on this EP (there are 2 tracks that are synth heavy).

The EP starts out with”The LAyover” which was produced by North Carolina beast Khrysis. The beat has a very mysterious and eerie loom to it, but it fits EV just fine as he describes what it’s like to experience a layover on a flight at LAX. “For Whom The Bell Tolls” to some may be one of the top highlights of the album, which features LA native Blu, and North Carolina native Phonte (of Little Brother) and produced by Khrysis. All 3 emcees spit 16 bars of inferno and Khrysis’s beat might actually make you think death himself is coming for you. “So Fresh” is in my opinion maybe one of the best beats on the album, the guitar loop is groovy as fuck and I also think this track serves as a great first track for Step Brothers. “The Far Left” has one of the most bangin’ beats on the album, the shit’s hard as hell (straight head nodder) and Alchemist, Fashawn & Evidence tear the beat apart. The thing that I find impressive about this EP is that I did hear a majority of the tracks before they came out, but there are three tracks of this album that serve to me as the definitive moments. “Rain or Shine” is a great track with a very soulful beat and Evidence rhyming by himself. DJ Babu‘s cuts are impeccable and the samples on this track are beautiful. To me “To Be Determined” is the EP’s shining gem. When I heard that Elzhi and EV were going to be on the same track I flipped my shit, and the result is pure magic. EV and Elzhi spit bars of fire and Aloe Blacc adds a great deal to this track as well with 16 bars of blackout material. If “To Be Determined” wasn’t on this EP “Cold Weather” would surely be the highlight of this album. Evidence takes on this track by himself and rolls smoothly over the beat and beautiful piano loop: “As of late these mics don’t reach too far/ so I kill each bar like it’s Flashing Lights“.

In conclusion this EP is as close to perfect as you can get. This is more than just an EP, it’s a testament that Evidence is going to be doing some huge things. If you slept on The Weatherman LP, you sure as hell don’t want to sleep on this shit, you will be making a huge mistake. Do yourself a favor and go pick up one of the top 3 releases of 2008 folks, you’ve got my word on that.

Evidence & Alchemist, 6 projects in one year?

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , , , on Monday, November 17, 2008 by Tim Althaus

ev-and-alc

Well as I’ve repeatedly told you before, Evidence is one busy ass mother fucker. It seems as though the same can be said about his HIGH school friend Alchemist. Together they are releasing 6 different projects in the next year. I don’t know about you, but I think that’s mad ridiculous the work that these two are putting in, and I can’t wait to hear the fruits of their labor. Evidence already released the LAyover Mixtape, The LAyover EP is coming in less than 2 weeks (I can’t fucking wait). Alchemist has Alchemist’s Cookbook EP and Better Living Through Chemistry (which he claims he’s remade 5 times) due out in the next year. Alchemist also has a project with one of my favorite producing/emcees Oh No entitled Gangrene which should drop by the end of this year.

All of this work is ultimately leading up to the release of the album for their project Step Brothers next year, as well as Evidence’s follow up to the critically acclaimed Weatherman LP, Cats & Dogs. The song “So Fresh” off of the LAyover EP is the first official Step Brothers single. If you haven’t seen the video check it out below and make sure you get all this material coming out because it’s gonna be fresh.

* I really wish I could get some of what they’ve got.

Well here we are folks two tracks into the LAoyver EP and I already feel like it’s going to consume my entire life come the 25th. I really don’t need to say much about EV I think I’ve already done all the talking I need to. This guy is incredible. Listen to this track because the beat knocks like Halloween and the rhymes are air tight.

Dilated Peoples: Last is First (Produced by Alchemist)

Posted in Music News with tags , , , on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 by Tim Althaus

I logged onto my computer yesterday after work and was delighted when I looked on my Okayplayer rss feed for Firefox. It turns out that Dilated Peoples just released a new single from Decon’s Fresh Rhymes & Videotape Vol. 1 EP/DVD (Which dropped Yesterday). The one thing that I was super pumped about is that (of course) it was produced by Alchemist. When Alchemist and Dilated get together you can count on a four alarm fire because you know it’s going to be a hot track. This next year is going to be one of the busiest years ever for the Dilated Peoples crew. Dj Babu’s new album (Duck Season Vol. 3) Drops on October 28th, Evidence has the Layover EP dropping Nov 25th (as well as The Layover Mixtape and a collaboration with Alchemist entitled Step Brothers), a Purple Tape Instrumental album (He’s already released Red and Yello) and Rakaa’s Crown of Thorns was rumored to still be dropping sometime this year. All of the aforementioned information is on top of  a new Dilated Peoples album as well as Evidence’s second solo album Cats & Dogs dropping next year. Even if these were the only releases for the next year in Hip-Hop I would still say it’s going to be one hell of a fucking year. Please go grab the 6 track EP/ T-Shirt combo from Decon here and cop all the Dilated material that is coming out this year.

Last is First (Produced By Alchemist)

P.S. Sorry Okayplayer, I had to steal the picture I love seeing Rakaa reppin’ the Dilla shirt.
