I remember being a Junior at La Crescent High School and learning about poetry and poetical devices from an incredible teacher named Ms. Sandy. I took an interesting re-appraisal at the music that I had been listening to previously, and I realized (with the exception of classic rock) that the Rap I had been listening to was pretty shitty to be frank. I remember at the time I had been hearing about Talib, and the things that I had heard were so positive that I had to get one of his albums. Quality is the first Kweli album I purchased, and it was a great entrance into the world of malicious metaphors, sick similes, wicked words and brazen bars. To me, Talib Kweli is easily one of the greatest emcees of all time, and I thank God this album exposed me to him. Continue reading

Wild Style Wednesday Review: Talib Kweli, Quality

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Music News with tags Gifted, Kanye West, lykke li, mp3, N.A.S.A., remix, Santogold, Spirit of Apollo, Steve Aoki on Thursday, May 7, 2009 by Erik BurgN.A.S.A‘s more than audacious project of an album Spirt of Apollo has been polarizing to this point. It’s not quite a hip-hop album, it’s not quite the electro album it tries to be at points either.
Here is where doctor Steve Aoki steps in to cure the problem. Taking what is arguably the album’s best track “Gifted” featuring Kanye West, Santogold, and Lykke Li, Aoki gives the song a strong does of banging electro medicine. Turning many of the choruses into mashed-up tweaked-out bass-ladened masterpieces, Aoki delivers once again. I’ve heard endless amounts of Aoki production, mixes, and remixes already, but I have to say that this might be his strongest to date.

Aoki is able to make “Gifted” sound like it was always this dirty European techno track, going back and listening to the original is almost a let down knowing that it never reaches the peak that Aoki takes it to in this remix. If you enjoy anything in this line of work, it’s worth checking out for sure. Enjoy!

Wild Style Wednesday Review: Jay-Z, The Blueprint
Posted in Wildstyle Wednesdays with tags Bink, Classic, eminem, jay-z, Just Blaze, Kanye West, The Blueprint on Wednesday, May 6, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Although you guys don’t hear my talk about Hov very much, I can assure you that he is one of my favorite emcees of all time. In my opinion The Blueprint is his shining moment as an emcee (although many would argue Reasonable Doubt is) without a doubt. This album has pristene production and Jay-Z’s flow, delivery and lyrics on this album are truly top notch. I picked up this album when I was in 8th grade, and I’ve been bumping it ever since. Now that I look back on this album, I can’t believe that I didn’t even think about this record for my top 10 most influential albums. The production on this album is handled by Kanye West (in his prime), Just Blaze, Bink & Eminem. With those names already you know the beats are going to be crazy as hell. Continue reading
Clipse, Kanye West & DJ Khalil are “Kind of a Big Deal”
Posted in Downloads, Media with tags Clipse, DJ Kahlil, Kanye West, Til the Casket Drops on Monday, April 20, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Here is a new one from the Thorton Brothers entitled “Kind of a Big Deal”. It is produced by DJ Kahlil and features none other than Kanye West. Despite my bias towards Kanye, I would have to say that he spits the best verse on this track. The beat that DJ Khalil puts down is ridiculous, and this track serves as a great opening to Til’ the Casket Drops.
Make sure you check out Malice, Pusha T & Kanye on the track because this one is pretty damn hot. I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t wait for Til’ the Casket Drops.

Kanye is a “Gay Fish”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Gay Fish, Kanye West, South Park on Saturday, April 11, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
This video is straight up hilarious. Apparently Matt Stone & Trey Parker thought that Kanye would be the best celebrity to go after next. For all of you who didn’t get the chance to see this, here it is folks the full episode. When I watched this I was pretty much crying I was laughing so hard, “Kanye you like to eat fish dicks!”. What did Ye have to say about the episode? “I GOT A LONG ROAD AHEAD OF ME TO MAKE PEOPLE BELIEVE I’M NOT ACTUALLY A HUGE DOUCHE BUT I’M UP FOR CHALLENGE”. All I have to say is good luck Kanye, I think it’s gonna be harder for me than anyone for you to convince.
Phonte of Little Brother calls Kanye’s new album “an act of cowardice”
Posted in News with tags Hip-Hop, Kanye West, Phonte on Thursday, January 22, 2009 by Tim Althaus
This article brought a great deal of content to my day not only because Phonte Coleman is the man, but because he totally dissed Ye’s new album. When asked about 808’s and Heartbreaks, He apparently said: “I didn’t like it, I was just like get the fuck out of here”, He also said that “I honestly think that it’s an act of cowardice” he continued “I think if you’re gonna make the creative leap to sing, then really sing. Let your voice come out, and let the people hear all the eccentricities and idiosyncrasies in your voice. That’s what makes you uniquely you… Imagine if Arethra Franklin used Autotune on Respect”. Phonte also said that he considered Kanye to be “biting” T-Pain.
I found this article to be absolutely hilarious. Phonte just confirmed what I’ve been feeling about this guy for the last 5 months. Autotune is for people that can’t sing or idiots. Phonte is one of those cats that a lot of people tend to listen to and I am anticipating the reaction in the rest of the Hip-Hop community.

the greatest gift of all: humbling kanye west
Kanye West V. Stephen Colbert: A battle of epic proportions.
Anybody following The Colbert Report or Kanye West’s twitter lately (to anyone admitting to the latter: come on dude) knows what all of this non-sense is about. Let’s lay it all out there in a nice chronological order:
Round 1. Stephen Colbert initiates Operation Humble Kanye, which involves all of his fans buying his new christmas album on the same day so that it would jump 808 & Heartbreaks on the iTunes album chart.
Round 2. Kanye West responds by saying “who the fuck is Stephen Colbert” on his blog. (Very insightful Kanye)
Round 3. The Result: Watch the most satisfying news segment this year here
Round 4. Kanye plays it all off as if someone hacked his Twitter (sorry Knaye put I don’t think anyone knew it existed to begin with) so that he doesn’t look like an absolute fool. Coincidentally this makes him look like more of an idiot.
Round 5. Well there really isn’t a five yet, hopefully Mr. West goes on the Colbert Report to settle all of this though, being that he is the “voice of this generation of this decade”
As if releasing a new album and blogging constantly wasn’t enough work for Kanye, he’s apparently releasing a Christmas album now too. I can’t wait for this one to drop. Preview after the jump… Continue reading
Kanye West’s Head Gets Even Bigger?
Posted in Music News with tags Douche Bag, Dumbass, Hipster-Hop, J Dilla, Kanye West on Saturday, November 15, 2008 by Tim AlthausHere is a quote that is directly from Mr. (Douche bag) West from an interview: “I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice,” he said in an interview on Wednesday. “It’s me settling into that position of just really accepting that it’s one thing to say you want to do it and it’s another thing to really end up being like Michael Jordan.”
I really feel sorry for the people that feel Kanye West really is the voice of this generation. I hate to think that anyone would think he was the Mike Jordan of Hip-Hop. I know a lot of you heads out there love this guy, but I simply cannot stand him. Dilla was a better producer than Kanye will ever be, Black Milk has way more talent that this egotistical fuck. You know I hate to say this, but I think the size of his ego has to do with a lot of the media and fans. There has literally been so little good main stream material that people just latch on to shit out there (i.e. Kanye, Lil’ Wayne) and they assume it to be great. There are so many artists out there in the Hip-Hop world that people have no idea about.
How can you go ahead and basically say that you are on your way to being the greatest beat maker or emcee when you’ve been in the game for 5 years? Anyone who wants to argue this I would be willing to debate with. I think that people really need to stop riding Kanye’s tight pants and his dumb ass hipster Hip-Hop music. This guy is turning the form of Hip-Hop into a hipster trend and it really bothers me. I remember a quote from one of Kanye’s tracks: ” I gotta apologize to Mos and Kweli…” he was talking about rhyming about jewelry, he needed to appologize for being an egotistical douche bag.
I have to let you all know, that this blog (as far as my posts are concerned) will be completely Kanye free, unless I can trash on him. I have to say I was a huge fan of College Dropout, and then his head got to big for his own good and I lost all interest in his music. I found out that there were other producers out there that were way better and didn’t need to tell the world how good they were to make a point.
(Note: The picture above is from Bonnaroo this year when Kanye put on the wackest show of his career and made constant excuses about how it wasn’t his fault.)
You can read the Blog post that he wrote about his reactions to Bonnaroo here, it’s actually quite comical as to how big of a baby he is. (On a side note I think it’s funny how he thinks that people are trying to “plot” his downfall.)
