Illinoise Gets a Little More Noize

It’s always amazed me that Sufjan Stevens doesn’t get more play in the remix scene. His multi-instrumental masterpieces would act as the perfect backdrop in various mash-ups and mixtapes, but alas, there aren’t many other people out there with the same opinion. So when I came across this mix I was quite interested. Pitting Sufjan’s Illinoise against some of Hip-Hop’s finest, Tor presents fans like myself with a nice twist on an old favorite. It’s a hard sell as an entire album, but listening to one track here or there is a delight. So check it out and see what you think, you can download it all for free below. Enjoy!

The Hood Internet with another stellar mash-up

They just keep coming, whether it’s individual tracks or entire mixtapes, the Hood Internet impress me every time they come out with new material. This time it’s all-time great Ghostface Killah and Beirut getting all jammed up together. Half the track comes from new Beirut material as well, otherwise known as Real People Holland, which is kind of cool. Ghostface sound slightly ridiculous over the top at first, but I’ve really come to like this song on my second listen. Check it out for yourself and see what you think, and if you enjoy there is TONS of other material out there from the Hood Internet as well.

Peter Bjorn and John have “Nothing to Worry About”

Peter Bjorn And John’s new album Living Thing hasn’t dropped quite yet, out officially March 31st, but a few of their singles from the new album have been leaking out. Most notably is the overly-happy and upbeat “Nothing to Worry About.” It’s a track that changes a lot of what PB&J have been known for. Gone is the clean style and extreme likable-ness in exchange for distorted and nearly lo-fi vocal choruses. I’m personally a huge fan of the track, I think it’s a great step for the band especially after the under-rated SeasideRock instrumental album. Some of the instrumentals on the track are very derivative of what they created on Seaside Rock, but the vocals are nothing like their past material… No whistles, sorry guys. Though “Nothing to Worry About” is certainly a track you could find yourself whistling to. It’s a fun song, very danceable, very fun, and yet nothing too outlandish or silly like some tracks of Writer’s Block. It’s a great track, hands down. Check it out below, Enjoy!

I promised more remixes and Mash-ups too, so here you go. It’s one of the most sampled and mashed up tracks I know of- B.I.G.’s “Party and Bullshit” with the new aforementioned “Nothing to Worry About.” And while many of the crazy mash-ups out there today fail miserably, this one actually does a pretty fine job of staying sane and accomplishing what any remix should do, it makes you want to put a giant grin on your face and groove your feet all night long. I love this edit, I love the original, I love music. And I hope you do too, Enjoy!

Mr. Gaspar does the mash with Daft Punk and Boys Noize

mr-gaspar I’m kind of disappointed in myself for not posting more remixes and mashups on here, seeing as I listen to them non-stop in the car or on my way to class. So yeah, I’ll try and get more of those out to you loyal readers. Here is a nice start, Mr. Gaspar, who’s remixed everyone from Katy Perry to The Cardigans along with some original material of his own, has yet another remix floating around the interwebs lately. This one mixes up Daft Punk’s classic “Harder Better Faster Stronger” with Boys Noize’s intense electro jam “Lava Lava”. It’s not perfect, and it’s nowhere near what a mashup is possible of doing as far as how it create new and nostalgic feelings all at the same time, but this track is a nice treat for anyone interested in both of the featured artists. It’s a grimmy and rough track in the end, but I love it all the same, what can I say? I’m a sucker for a good mashup. check it out for yourself, enjoy!
