Album Update: Murs & Fashawn, This Generation

Posted in Album Update, Audio, Media with tags , , , , , , on Tuesday, August 14, 2012 by Tim Althaus

I was on Facebook today, and I randomly scrolled over the album cover because I thought it was just a track; sometimes I don’t know what I would do without Facebook because it seems like I always stumble across new music material via my news feed. I was completely oblivious to this, but apparently Murs & Fashawn are teaming up to release a full-length album produced entirely by Beatnick & K-Salaam. The project will be released on Duck Down Records, and it will hit stores on September 25th.

Whether you realize it or not, Murs is an O.G. and a legend in the West Coast Hip-Hop game; he’s collaborated with the best of them, and he gets mad respect from cats all across the nation. He even teamed up with Guerilla Union to start the Paid Dues concert series – which is a big deal in the Hip-Hop community.

Fashawn is one of the best emcees from the Left Coast, and I’ve been itching to hear a proper release from Fashawn since he dropped Boy Meets World – his classic debut album. He’s dropped a few mixtapes in the interim, but I’m glad to see that he’s dropping another official studio album. I’m hoping – even though it may be a little ambitious – that Fash will drop his Sophomore album The Ecology sometime this year; any time that Fashawn and Exile team up, it’s an instant recipe for greatness.

You can peep the album’s lead single (“Flash Gordan”) and tracklisting down below.

Radio Do Canibal

Have I ever mentioned that Minneapolis Hip-Hop is the shit? BK-One, who is  Brother Ali’s tour DJ, will be dropping his new album Rádio Do Canibal with Benzilla on October 6th. This is the first leak off of the project and it features MPLS native Brother Ali, Phonte & The Grouch. The beat on this track is bananas, and it’s definitely something I could see myself listening to on a regular basis. It sounds like this project is going to be nothing short of amazing, and it will have a star studded cast of emcees. Over the instrumentals you will hear: Black Thought, Brother Ali, Phonte, The Grouch, Murs, Slug, Raekwon, Blueprint, P.O.S., Blueprint, Toki Wright & many more. You can go over to Fifth Element and pre-order the album now, which is probably a good idea. Follow me after the jump to download the track and peep the tracklisting. Continue reading

The one above is “Trying to Find a Balance” and then the freestyle. Follow me after the jump for some more footage from the show (including some Felt action!)

Atmosphere + Aesop Rock + Murs live freestlye

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , , , , on Tuesday, August 18, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

So I was hoping I would be able to find a video of this. Atmosphere, MURS, and Aesop Rock (Felt 3!) did a show last weekend at Red Rocks in Colorado. As most Atmosphere shows conclude, Slug does a freestyle with his buddies from the show. I apologize for the poor quality. Shout out to durden54 for the video.

And the winnner is……Aesop Rock! That’s right, Aesop Rock will be producing the new Felt album, the tribute still TBA. Rhymesayers released a track yesterday evening for FREE called “Protaganists” with MURS proclaiming “The Felt boys are back, the boys of summer / and this time ya boy Aes Rock is the drummer”.

I was excited to hear the track, but I am a little disappointed with the Aesop Rock selection. While he is a capable producer, I thought RSE and Felt would be pulling something crazier and less expected. Regardless, the track is pretty good, you can download it below or visit the RSE website.

Wild Style Wednesday Review: Rjd2, The Horror EP

Posted in Wildstyle Wednesdays with tags , , , , , , on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 by Tim Althaus

RJ horror Rjd2 is one badass dude, he released Deadringer in 2002 (one of my favorite albums of all time), and roughly one year later he released this ten track gem otherwise known as The Horror EP. Don’t get me wrong, Deadringer is a multi-level musical masterpiece but I think The Horror EP is a little better. This EP has ten top tier tracks, revisits some of the best moments of Deadringer and further more, it features some of Rj’s best beats. I feel as though if this was the only material that you owned by Rjd2, you would still be listening to his best music. Continue reading
