Vodpod videos no longer available.

Last week you guys heard Royce going hard as hell over this beat. Thanks to 2DopeBoyz, this week you finally get to see Hov’s official video for this track. I actually hadn’t heard the Jay-Z version of this track up until this point, but holy shit Jigga absolutely demolishes this nice beat by No I.D. The Blueprint 3 drops on September 11th, so make sure you go out and show your support for some real Hip-Hop. A lot of heads have been talking about this new Jay-Z album, so I can honestly say that I have my hopes up seeing as I’m a huge fan and all. Follow me after the jump for a live video of Jay-Z performing the track at the BET Awards, and the track download. Continue reading

Crown Royale, “Get It Up”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Monday, June 29, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Last week I posted the Hip Hop Official artist of the week video for these guys. Here is a video of Buff1 & Rhettmatic performing the track, “Get It Up”, that is going to be on their upcoming album. As usual, Buff tears the mic apart and Rhett lays down a nasty hard hitting beat. I can assure you that this project is going to be nuts.

The Sunday Show, Episode 8 “Back to Our Roots”

Here we have episode 8 of your favorite podcast about nothing in particular, “Back to Our Roots”. This episode features Nic & Chad (and of course Union Dan) recapping interesting stories and events (much like the 1st episode, hence the name). For all of you iTunes users, you can now also download each episode of The Sunday Show on iTunes as well. As usual Chad & Nic give you a rundown of what they are currently drinking (the “not so pale ale” sounds delicious) (on a separate note, I highly suggest you try some of these beers, I’ve had the pleasure of trying a few and they have been great), and jump into the news bits.

Apparently there has been trace amounts of cocaine found in Red Bull (no fucking way…) and it has been banned in a few coutries, but as the guys point out it’s really not a whole lot. I think I am going to try what Chad is talking about with drinking a few ice colds in a hot shower sometime, I can see that starting off a night really well. Nic mentioned that Hulu is going to have an app for TV viewing. On another side note, I love Hulu and if you don’t know about it, I would highly suggest that you check it out. But the app will allow users to install an application onto their desktop and it will team with the media center on your computer to bring you everything you need. As Nic mentions, this truly is an epic thing. For some people, they may never need cable television ever again. Make sure you check this episode out guys, a lot of valuable information with great opinions here. The story on the kid in the mortuary is just ridiculousness folks.

As always you can visit the guys over @ http://thesundayshow.com

The Sunday Show, Episode 7 “The Wine Tasting”

Hey guys, sorry it’s been a while since we’ve heard from the guys over at The Sunday Show. I hadn’t realized that they got a new domain which you can all go to here. Episode 7 of your favorite podcast about nothing in particular is about wine tasting. This episode was shot at Blatz Market & Liquor (which you may recall from episode 3) and these guys delve into a few different wine selections (2 whites, 2 reds). If you are a fan of wine, or alcohol in particular (much like myself) there is a lot of factual information that you can learn here. Notice Emiko & Nic’s scale of rating (so precise), I love it.

The Dodos – new album in September & 2009 tour dates w/ Ruby Suns

Good news people, two of the most enjoyable bands are touring together. Even better news, one of them is putting out a new album in the fall. The Dodos and The Ruby Suns will be touring together this fall, and on an extensive trip throughout the entire country the two groups won’t stop in the midwest for too long, but do manage to squeeze in a show here in Minneapolis at the Turf Club on October 20th. I had the pleasure of seeing The Dodos perform live at last year’s Pitchfork Music Festival and they absolutely blew me away, so I would usually say go on that recommendation alone, but I’ve been hooked on The Ruby Suns for about a year now as well. Their album Sea Lion is completely under appreciated and should have been heard by a lot more people, but too bad for all of you missing out I guess. It’s shaping up to be one of the must see concerts of the fall so far, so get your tickets as soon as they go on sale. Here are a few MP3s to get acquainted with the bands if you haven’t heard them yet:

MP3: The Dodos – “Fools”

MP3: The Ruby Suns – “Kenya Dig It?”

The Dodos have been working on a new studio album as well, slated to hit shelves September 15th. Time To Die is the follow up to the mesmerizing Visiter back in 2007. The album will feature a new member in the band as well, upping the number of members to three, a one Keaton Snyder will be featured on the vibraphone. As Meric Long recalls in an interview about the record and their recent touring, Snyder still has a bit to learn:

“He’s a better musician than Logan and I combined. I don’t even know what’s going on with his music theory ideas half the time.” On a similar note, Snyder-a classically-trained musician-is constantly learning what ‘being in a band’ entails. In fact, he didn’t even know how to react when a chord was yanked during his Dodos debut. “After the show,” says Long, “he was like, ‘Yeah, I’ve never had to plug anything in before.’ It was hilarious.”

September 15th is the release date, October 20th is the tour date. So pencil them in, and if you didn’t get enough of The Dodos on the Miller Chill commercial I’m sure you’ll be hearing all about them come fall. Track listing below:

01 Small Deaths
02 Longform
03 Fables
04 The Strums
05 This Is A Business
06 Two Medicines
07 Troll Nacht
08 Acorn Factory
09 Time To Die

Buff1 & DJ Rhettmatic are Crown Royale

Posted in Music News, Video with tags , , on Wednesday, June 24, 2009 by Tim Althaus

By the sounds of this video, these two cats are going to be doing some huge things. Crown Royale (Buff1 + Rhettmatic) is Hip Hop Official‘s newest artist of the week. I personally had no idea that these guys were going to be doing a project together. Rhett was on Buff’s last album but I didn’t know they were going to be making an album. When you mix one of the best DJs in the world and an amazing yet versatile emcee you are going to have one hell of a duo. Check out the video and make sure you stay tuned to more news on Crown Royale.

Vinnie Paz Comments on Upcoming Solo Debut

Posted in Music News, Video with tags , , , , , , , , , , on Tuesday, June 23, 2009 by Tim Althaus

This video was a breath of fresh air, seeing as I love to hear anything new about anything Jedi Mind affiliated. Apparently Vinnie Paz is working hard in the studio on his new album The Assassins Creed, and from the names he lists off it sounds like it’s going to be one hell of a project. You will hear Clipse, Freeway, Beanie Siegel, Jakk Frost, Demoz & the AOTP fam all spitting bars with Vinnie on this one. On the production side… Madlib, Lil’ Fame (of M.O.P.), Bronze Nazareth & 4th Disciple. Vinnie doesn’t mention anything about a release date but I can assure you that this is another album that I can’t wait for, not matter how long it takes to get on the shelves.

Immortal Technique Takes Over the Highline Ballroom

If none of you out there have ever seen this guy perform, I am telling you that you are truly missing out on something that will move you. Thanks to 2DopeBoyz, I was able to catch this video of Immortal getting on stage with Green Lantern and performing a few tracks. He performs “Point of No Return”, a fucking jaw dropping acapella and the track “The 3rd World” (off of his most recent LP of the same name). As I mentioned in my Soundset post, this guy has the most raw energy I’ve ever seen on a stage. Do yourself a favor and watch this video, you may feel moved…

This is an awesome video of Peanut Butter Wolf running through a phat stack of Stones Throw classics on vinyl with Splash Mag. The thing that is really great about it is that Wolf really gets into detail about these records, and he preaches some information that you otherwise might not have known. What records does he talk about might you ask? You can learn about My Vinyl Weighs A Ton, Donuts, Jaylib, Ode To The Ghetto and more.

Alchemist Talks His Favorite Producing Emcees

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, June 22, 2009 by Tim Althaus

As you may recall, I posted a video yesterday of Alchemist talking about a variety of issues with Nodfactor.com. This is another part of the video where he talks about his favorite producers who also emcee. I love to hear ALC’s input because producing emcees are my favorite cats in the game. He rattles off around 10 cats, and needless to say my favorites (J Dilla, Black Milk & Evidence) are surely in there.
