Vodpod videos no longer available.

Here is some more Splash!-Mag footage with Elzhi & Black Milk. If you remember, I posted the first part of this video a while back. In the second part, they talk about the history of Motown in pretty big detail. These guys are both very intelligent individuals who are very up-to-date on their musical knowledge. Black Milk also talks about all of the people that made tracks from his project Music From The Color Purple, not to mention how as a producer you can’t put any of your beats on the internet anymore. Black discusses that he is debating one whether or not to make a beat tape (thank you god), but he knows he has to beware if he does. Elzhi breaks down why Lord Finesse is one of his most influential emcees and how he fathered some people’s style.

Skyzoo Brings Hip-Hop The Salvation (Artwork x Tracklisting)

Skyzoo salvation

I’ve been waiting on this guys’ solo album for what seems like an ice age. Skyzoo recently dropped the artwork and tracklisting for his new album The Salvation. It looks like this album is going to be a defining opus with some of the best production we’ve heard in some time (Just Blaze, 9th Wonder, Black Milk, Illmind & Nottz to name a few). Skyzoo is a real emcee, and I can guarantee with the producers he has on board this album will not fall short of greatness. You can pick up this heat rock on September 29th. Meanwhile you can follow me after the jump for the tracklisting.

Black Milk Brings Detroit to the Den Haag iLoveHipHop Festival

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Thursday, July 16, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I don’t think posting about this guy is ever going to get old. Black Milk was over in Den Haag (The Netherlands) for the iLoveHipHop Festival to tear apart the stage and bring a little bit of Detroit to Europe. In the first video above there is a nice lengthy intro of some of Black’s best work (in my opinion, I love the beat to “Sound of the City”) and then he jumps right into “Long Story Short” with full force. The thing that I’m loving about this video is that Black is performing with a live band, which is something that is truly amazing to see at a Hip-Hop show. Follow me after the jump to watch the other two videos featuring “Losing Out” & “Sound The Alarm”. Continue reading

Black Milk Brodcast, Episode 2

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Monday, July 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Twitter is a beautiful thing isn’t it? I checked my Twitter feed on my Blackberry and noticed this video was posted by none other than Black Milk. This is the second video from his Black Milk Broadcast series, and this video features more amazing footage from Europe. The girl in the beginning of the video mentions that the show that Black put on was one of the best that the club has seen for awhile, when you see him go on stage you will definitely see how true that statement is. Yet again, I love seeing Black mess with the MPC on stage and chop shit up. The way that he enters into “The Matrix” is unreal.

Elzhi & Black Milk Break it Down for Splash Mag

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Here is a nice video of Elzhi & Black Milk backstage at one of their shows (does anyone know where the fuck I can get that shirt that Hex is wearing?) where they talk about a variety of issues with Splash Mag. The first thing they discuss is the movie8 Mile, Black breaks down what it was like around that time (how big of a spotlight it was on the D), and Elzhi reminisces on getting a check for being an extra in the movie (fuck he’s way better than Em, they should make a movie about him). Elzhi breaks down what Em was going for when he re-created the battle scene in 8 Mile at the Hip-Hop shop. Make sure you don’t miss this one, tons of valuable knowledge about the D here.

Black Milk Broadcast, Episode 1

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , , , on Friday, July 3, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Black Milk is one of my favorite performers there is, the guy is pretty much flawless when it comes to music. Apparently when Black was touring overseas (with Elzhi (the best emcee on the planet right now)), he decided to put together some footage and start a new video series. In this first episode you get an inside look in the studio with Black Milk, Alchemist, Guilty Simpson and Hex Murda. You will also get some great live footage of Black Milk performing, and some hilarious yet insightful behind the scenes footage. It’s great to see all of the people over seas showing Black Milk love, and they also love to drop the n-bomb. Make sure you stay tuned for the rest of the installments, because you know I will have them up at Mind Inversion.

Alchemist Talks His Favorite Producing Emcees

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, June 22, 2009 by Tim Althaus

As you may recall, I posted a video yesterday of Alchemist talking about a variety of issues with Nodfactor.com. This is another part of the video where he talks about his favorite producers who also emcee. I love to hear ALC’s input because producing emcees are my favorite cats in the game. He rattles off around 10 cats, and needless to say my favorites (J Dilla, Black Milk & Evidence) are surely in there.

Black Milk Takeover Interview

Posted in Media, Video with tags , on Wednesday, June 17, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Here is a dope interview with Black Milk, as I’ve re-iterated many times before, I think he’s one of the best artists in the game period right now. In the first video you see he speaks on how he got his name, how he met Bishop Lamont and the super group Random Axe. You can follow me after the jump to watch the second and third part of the interview. Continue reading

Black Milk Talks About Cam’ron Using The Same Sample

Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags , on Monday, June 8, 2009 by Tim Althaus

As many of you out there know, Black Milk’s track “Losing Out” contains an incredible sample and it was one of the best tracks on last year’s Tronic. Apparently Cam’ron has a new track utilizes same sample. I’m going to go out on a short limb and say that Black Milk’s version stomps on Cam’ron & Jada’s but you guys can be the judge of that.

Listen: Cam’ron, “Let’s Talk About” (Feat. Jadakiss)

Listen: Black Milk, “Losing Out” (Feat. Royce Da 5’9″)

Black Milk Talks With Pitchfork About Random Axe

Posted in Music News with tags , , , on Sunday, June 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

randomaxe Black Milk is probably my favorite artist in the game right now (next to Evidence), he has been putting out incredible music with that signature Detroit sound. He linked up with Pitchfork Media (who dissed him in the first paragraph citing his “unspectacular rhyming” on Tronic) about the super group composed of Sean Price, Guilty Simpson & himself known as Random Axe. Personally I feel like Pitchfork is a giant epicenter of pretentious morons, but if it’s Black Milk related I will read it. The Random Axe album is one of my most anticipated albums this year, and I feel like this album is going to be nothing short of great.

Black Milk discusses a lot of issues about how the group came to be (contacting Sean Price for a verse on Guilty Simpson’s album), how he adapts production sounds for certain emcees, how it feels to be on Duck Down Records and how he reacts to people coining him as the “new Kanye” (he cites himself as being much different than Kanye, I personally think he’s better). This interview is great and it gives some good insight into the story of the great super group known as Random Axe. According to the interview, Black Milk won’t be rapping on every verse because he wanted to focus the spotlight on Sean P & Guilty Simpson.

I am going to be impatiently waiting for this album which will be dropping late this year. I can tell you that the beats and wordplay on this album are going to be top tier, and you surely aren’t going to want to miss it. Stay tuned to Mind Inversion for all the news on the Random Axe record. This is just another great example of Black Milk “putting the D on his back like a shirt that he bought”.
