I (as well as everyone else) knew well before this album came out that this album was going to be a benchmark for lyrical linguistics. Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I & Royce Da 5’9″ are all known for their raw radical and introspective lyrics, and when you put them together the results are going to be monumental. On this album Slaughterhouse sets out to prove that although you may have thought Hip-Hop was close to dead, they plan on showing you it isn’t. I can almost assure you that there probably won’t be another album to come out this year that has anywhere near the lyrical display of this album. Continue reading

Posted in Media, Video with tags DJ Day, Exile, MPC on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim AlthausEvery single time I see one of these videos I’m more astonished than the time before. Exile & DJ Day have been doing their thing with MPCs for a while now, and 2DopeBoyz had some video footage over on their page. What these guys do is utterly amazing and I would give almost anything to see them do their thing live. Make sure you go out and get Exile’s Radio now. J Rocc Scratches Up Guitar Center’s King of the Blues
Posted in Media, Video with tags Beat Junkies, Guitar Center, J Rocc, King of the Blues, turntablism on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim AlthausThis is some great video footage, and I can’t thank Crate Kings enough. J Rocc discusses the nature of Blues Music for the first couple minutes of the video and then breaks into his performance. If you haven’t ever heard J Rocc or the Beat Junkies you are pretty much dead to me, because they are nothing short of incredible. J Rocc performs with a live blues band at Guitar Center’s King of the Blues and scratches shit up like crazy. If you are a fan of turntablism or music in general you have to see this one.
Slaughterhouse Already Talking Second Album
Posted in Music News with tags Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Slaughterhouse on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus
According to a HipHopDX article that I read this morning (it’s from yesterday), the guys from Slaughterhouse are already talking about a sophomore follow-up to their self-titled release. The way Joell Ortiz made it sound, is that they would like to put out all of their solo efforts and then move to the next collaborative effort. The guys also said that they will probably start recording some material for the follow-up in the interim so that they don’t have to bang out an album in 6 days again. Joell reveals even more good news when he sates, “I feel like all of our solo albums will have us featured on there”. Crooked I mentions that even though there were tracks that were left off of the album, they will surface one way or another because “the world needs to hear it”.
It sounds like the next year is going to be pretty insane as far as these guys is concerned, not to mention everything else that is coming out in the next year. This just proves that Hip-Hop is nowhere near dead, it’s a healthy, living and breathing organism that is stronger than ever.

Here is the latest video from Slum Village off of their upcoming album Villa Manifesto. The direction on the video was done by Dwele, and you might notice himself and Black Milk making cameos in this one. I can assure you I will be copping the new Slum Village shit when it drops. Will you?
