It seems as though everything that Brother Ali touches turns to gold. Everything that this Twin Cities native has put out has been well above par. Earlier this year he dropped The Truth is Here EP, which was 9 straight tracks of sheer brilliance, and now he drops Us into the hands of the people. Much like everyone else is saying, I will agree that this is one of the best albums of this year. It has everything you’ve come to expect from a Brother Ali album: powerful production from Ant and legendary lyrics from Brother Ali. Ali is quickly on his way to becoming a legendary emcee, and Us is yet another nail in the pivotal coffin of truth. Brother Ali’s story telling abilities come alive like a beast in hibernation, and the outcome is simply stunning. Continue reading

Album Review: Brother Ali, Us
Posted in Music Reviews with tags Ant, Brother Ali, Chuck D, Freeway, Joell Ortiz, Rhymesayers Entertainment, US on Wednesday, September 23, 2009 by Tim AlthausBrother Ali, Joell Ortiz & Freeway are the “Best@it”
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Ant, Brother Ali, Freeway, Joell Ortiz, US on Wednesday, September 16, 2009 by Tim AlthausDamn, this track is borderline insane. As you all should know, Brother Ali has his newest album Us dropping this coming Tuesday, September 22nd. “Best@it” is the second leak that we’ve been able to obtain, and it features the Philly Freezer & Joell Ortiz alongside the Street Preacher Brother Ali. As you can expect Ant’s beat is ridiculous (which I’m sure it is on the rest of the album as well), and all three of the emcees featured spit top quality bars. I know that I said Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 was going to probably get album of the year, but I think this new Brother Ali album is going to be fucking epic. I can assure you I will be at the store next week, and you should be to.

Ray Benzino? Who?
Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Video with tags Beef, Benzino, Crooked I, eminem, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim AlthausYou may be asking yourself that exact question. Who the fuck is Ray Benzino? Well if you were wondering, Ray Benzino is the man behind The Source Magazine, and he’s no doubt a dumbass. In this video he talks about the new Jay-Z cover (hating on it), why Slaughterhouse is overrated (Really?), he also says “Fuck Royce Da 5’9”. Apparently Benzino wanted to order a coffin for himself, because I dont think anyone should be fronting on the Slaughterhouse Machine, especially a dude that doesn’t make good music. Ray ended up taking it one step further and releasing an Eminem & Slaughterhouse diss track called “Good Fellaz”. Now, I don’t know about you guys but… I think that if either of these two respond to Benzino, shit is gonna be crazy as fuck. Follow me after the jump to download “Good Fellaz”. Continue reading

Album Review: Slaughterhouse, Slaughterhouse
Posted in Music Reviews with tags Crooked I, DJ Khalil, Focus, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Mr. Porter, Pharoahe Monch, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse, Streetrunner on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus I (as well as everyone else) knew well before this album came out that this album was going to be a benchmark for lyrical linguistics. Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I & Royce Da 5’9″ are all known for their raw radical and introspective lyrics, and when you put them together the results are going to be monumental. On this album Slaughterhouse sets out to prove that although you may have thought Hip-Hop was close to dead, they plan on showing you it isn’t. I can almost assure you that there probably won’t be another album to come out this year that has anywhere near the lyrical display of this album. Continue reading
Slaughterhouse Already Talking Second Album
Posted in Music News with tags Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Slaughterhouse on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim AlthausAccording to a HipHopDX article that I read this morning (it’s from yesterday), the guys from Slaughterhouse are already talking about a sophomore follow-up to their self-titled release. The way Joell Ortiz made it sound, is that they would like to put out all of their solo efforts and then move to the next collaborative effort. The guys also said that they will probably start recording some material for the follow-up in the interim so that they don’t have to bang out an album in 6 days again. Joell reveals even more good news when he sates, “I feel like all of our solo albums will have us featured on there”. Crooked I mentions that even though there were tracks that were left off of the album, they will surface one way or another because “the world needs to hear it”.
It sounds like the next year is going to be pretty insane as far as these guys is concerned, not to mention everything else that is coming out in the next year. This just proves that Hip-Hop is nowhere near dead, it’s a healthy, living and breathing organism that is stronger than ever.

This video had me in stitches the whole time I watched it. XXL has a game show called I Know Rap People, and to commemorate the release of the Slaughterhouse album, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I, Royce Da 5’9″ & Joe Budden all were guests on the show. The guys answer questions about their own group, and the internet in general. The answers these guys throw out there will have you laughing your ass off. Make sure you go get that Slaughterhouse album now.

Slaughterhouse Talks About Contenders
Posted in News with tags Crooked I, eMC, Hard Knock TV, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 by Tim AlthausJoe Budden, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz & Royce Da 5’9″ stopped by Hard Knock TV to talk about their new album, and give some insight into who they think would be a 4 man group that could content. I love how Joell is just wylin’ out the whole time, and the rest of the guys give some serious answers. I am really surprised that no one mentions eMC (why does everyone sleep on eMC?). If you haven’t copped the Slaughterhouse album yet, there truly is no hope left for you.

Two New Slaughterhouse Tracks
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Alchemist, Crooked I, Emile, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Microphone, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 by Tim AlthausDamn, I don’t really have a whole lot to say. If you pirated this album, you should be shanked with a thousand microphones repeatedly until your death. Here are two new tracks from the Slaughterhouse conglomerate courtesy of 2DopeBoyz. These tracks both go harder than concrete, and I can assure you that I will be at the store on August 11th during my break to pick this one up. The first track below is “Microphone” which is produced by Alchemist, whom you all know never disappoints. The second joint is produced by Emile and it’s called “Onslaught 2” and Emile’s horns paint a beautiful backdrop for these Royce, Joell, Joe & Crooked to massacre. Don’t fucking sleep.

Mr. Peter Parker Talks With Royce Da 5’9″ & Crooked I
Posted in Media, Video with tags Crooked I, Joell Ortiz, Mr. Peter Parker, Rock the Bells, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse on Monday, August 3, 2009 by Tim AlthausPeter Parker pulled Royce Da 5’9″ & Crooked I aside to chat with them at Rock the Bells in Boston. 1/2 of the Slaughterhouse beast talks about why everyone came together to make this record, despite the fact that they all have solo careers. Royce gives a great response when Mr. Parker asks him if there is competition when it comes to spitting in the booth for the Slaughterhouse record. He replies that it’s more about everybody bringing their A-Game (which is mad dope). As I keep stressing over and over, August 11th is going to be bonkers. Follow me after the jump to watch Joell Ortiz talking with Mr. Parker as well. Continue reading
