Hip Hop Is Music is back!

For those that don’t know, there’s a hip hop label from the Northwest called Hip Hop IS Music featuring some pretty dope MCs including Braille, Theory Hazit, Poems, Sojourn, Sivion, Surreal, Othello, and the group Lightheaded. Braille and the label were on somewhat on a hiatus, and now they are back. While many categorize them under the “chrisitan rap” label and dismiss them, they are making some sick music. I would highly recommend Theory Hazit’s Extra Credit.

To mark the launch of their comeback, they are releasing a free single of Sojourn’s new album Sojournalism: The Summer Articles which drops September 1st.

KiD CuDi – Make Her Say (feat. Kanye West & Common) Video

Posted in Media, News, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, July 20, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This song has been flying around the internet for months and finally has a real video. If you haven’t heard it, it’s called “Make Her Say” by Kid Cudi and features fellow G.O.O.D. music members Kanye and Common (Kanye’s verse is killer!). The song samples Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” chopped up to make it sound like “Poke Her Face”. It’s fantastic. This is the official video. Look out for Kid Cudi’s September 15th release Man on the Moon.

Shout out to 2dopeboyz for the find.

Adam Yauch (MCA) Makes A Serious Announcement

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Video with tags , , , on Monday, July 20, 2009 by Tim Althaus

MCA has made the announcement that the doctors have found cancerous cells in his lymph node area. I can’t tell you how devastated I was (and still am) when I heard this. The Beastie Boys have been one of the most pivotal groups in Hip-Hop since the beginning, and in my opinion they will continue to be. It’s unfortunate for all of the fans out there that had tickets to their upcoming shows, but MCA needs all of your prayers at this time to make it to a speedy recovery. Just let it be known that the people at Mind Inversion are sending out our prayers to MCA and The Beastie Boys.

Royce Claims “The Wu-Tang/Slaughterhouse Beef is Over”…

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Monday, July 20, 2009 by Tim Althaus

This whole beef has been going on for awhile now, and it has honestly kept me on the edge of my seat. My man Nolan posted the video with Raekwon last week, and now I found this video over at 2DopeBoyz of Royce saying the beef is over at Rock The Bells. Not only does Royce say the beef is over, but he speaks the truth as he gives Wu-Tang props and calls them legends. It’s good to see that the beef was able to be squashed because there is just no need for that shit in Hip-Hop (although it does sell records).

Behind The Scenes On The “Under Siege” Video Shoot

Man this one had my ass rolling on the floor the whole time. This is some great behind the scenes footage from the Alchemist & Oh No (Gangrene) video “Under Siege”. It seems like all these cats do is clown around and smoke good weed (nothing wrong with that). You will see some guest appearences by Evidence and Scott Cann.

Vinnie Paz Will “Drag You To Hell”

Here is the first leak off of Vinnie’s upcoming album The Assassin’s Creed. This joint was produced by long time Jedi Mind Tricks affiliate DJ Kwestion (who is absolutely dirty on the cuts by the way). As usually Vinnie spits some hardcore bars JMT style. Vinnie’s album is another one that I am highly anticipating, this guy is part of probably my most influential group of all time. Just some quality music from Illadelph.

Lily Allen – 22 (Video)

Posted in Media, News, Video with tags , , , on Sunday, July 19, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Lily Allen’s new video for the song “22” off one of my favorite albums of this year, It’s Not Me, It’s You. The song is about how the media portrays her as old and washed up because “she’s nearly 30” (which isn’t really true). I highly recommend the album, musicaly it’s fantastic. Also check out her other videos for “Fuck You” and “Not Fair”.

P.O.S. on Cinemax, Max Tour Stories

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, July 17, 2009 by Tim Althaus

The people at Cinemax caught up with Stef at this year’s Soundset Festival in Shakopee and got some good footage. In the first part of the video Stef talks about the name “P.O.S.” and what it could be an acronym for, and how he got the name. He also talks about the roots of his influence and the nature of his beats. It’s great to know that guys like Stef take a lot of influence from their fans, because those are the best kinds of artists. In part 2 of the video P.O.S. discusses what he feels like when he’s on stage, what it was like growing up in Minneapolis without a major label and why he makes music that sounds different than your regular boom bap Hip-Hop. Follow me after the jump to catch part 2. Continue reading

This is the Day I’ve Been Waiting For…

Posted in Music News, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, July 17, 2009 by Tim Althaus

That’s right folks, it appears as though the sickest cat in the game just got sicker. I’ve been waiting to hear these words pretty much this whole year. As you can see above, Evidence just signed a multi-record deal with powerhouse label Rhymesayers Entertainment. You heard it, Cats & Dogs will be coming out on Rhymesayers Entertainment. I can’t tell you how truly happy I am to hear this news, I’ve been wondering if Rhymesayers was going to end up being a home for EV for awhile now. I almost feel as though this is a little bit surreal and I can’t figure out why. The one thing I can figure out, and do know, is that Evidence & Rhymesayers Entertainment are going to be taking over the game in 2010. Make sure you watch out for EV on tour with Brother Ali this fall.

The Dodos Tell “Fables”

As my ex-commrade Ryan had mentioned in an earlier post, The Dodos will be coming out with a new album entitled Time To Die on September 15th. I was able to obtain a leak from Pitchfork of the track “Fables” which will be featured on the new album. I remember when Ryan told me about these guys’ album Visiter, I took one listen and I was immediately hooked on their harmonies and acoustic sound. Pitchfork also said that The Dodos label, Frenchkiss Records, launched a new website so that fans could stream the new album Time To Die which you can go to here.
