For those of you who have been following my writing, you know that Fashawn is one of my favorite emcees. His album Boy Meets World is a regular spin for me, and I think the kid is going to be doing big things; Apparently XXL thinks the same thing. Fashawn is the number four freshmen, and this is his promo video with a nice little thirty second freestyle. If you haven’t done yourself the favor of buying Boy Meets World, it’s probably about time that you do; don’t sleep on this kid.

Posted in Media, Video with tags , on Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Tim Althaus

This is the second part of a three part documentary Stussy is doing on J Dilla. This particular episode is about Dilla’s move from Detroit to Los Angeles. In this video you will see Peanut Butter Wolf, Egon, J-Rocc, DJ Rhettmatic, House Shoes and others talking about Jay’s transition Detroit to LA.

Talk about the definition of epic. I’m pretty sure this album was suppose to come out right before Christmas, but nonetheless, here we are with some official artwork and a tracklisting. The thing that gets me is that there are no producer credits listed by the tracks; this is going to drive me nuts. I really want to know who is producing on this album. There is no official release date yet either, but I’m sure we will hear soon enough. Follow me after the jump for the tracklisting. Continue reading

My 2010 Dilla Day Mix

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Tim Althaus

I don’t know if you guys were readers last year around this time, but I did this exact same thing. I am a huge fan of J Dilla; he is a huge inspiration to me. I actually made this mix on what would have been Dilla’s 36th birthday. I took a lot of time thinking about what tracks would go smoothly together, but I also thought about what tracks of his were among my favorites. The outcome? 23 tracks of straight unadulterated Jay Dee goodness.

I figured I would post this mix here because I really want everyone to be able to have it; it’s nothing big, but if one more person starts to listen to Dilla because of it, then I’ve done my job. James Yancey really was the king of the beats, and his presence is strongly missed in the music world. All of the tracks on this mix are either produced by or featuring J Dilla (with the exception of one).

Little Brother, Leftback (Artwork & Tracklisting)

I know, I know, I’m a little bit late on this one, but you know what they say: “It’s better late than never”. I really hope most people are as excited as I am about this one. Phonte and Big Pooh will be dropping their fourth and final album Leftback on April 20th through Hall of Justus Records. I have to say, I’m sad to view the absence of 9th Wonder from the producer credits, but other than that, this album looks like it’s going be some quality material. I’m a huge Little Brother fan, so I can assure you that I will be picking up my copy on April 20th. Follow me after the jump for the tracklisting. Continue reading

J Dilla x Stussy Documentary (Part 1) + Common’s Thoughts on J Dilla

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Monday, February 15, 2010 by Tim Althaus

You will probably see me posting a lot of stuff about J Dilla in the next couple of weeks; I feel way behind the curve considering his birthday was on the 7th. Stussy has released a limited edition shirt in memory of Jay Dee, and they have also put together a three part documentary. This is the first part, and you will see many of the people that were privileged to know Dilla throughout his life. This documentary looks like it’s going to be an awesome testament to Dilla’s legacy, and you all should definitely check it out.

Underneath is a video of Common talking with HardKnock.tv about Jay Dee.

Album Update: Freeway & Jake One, The Stimulus Package

Posted in Album Update, Audio, Media, News, Video with tags , , , , , on Monday, February 15, 2010 by Tim Althaus

Alright, so here’s the deal. If you haven’t heard about the new Freeway & Jake One album yet, you shouldn’t be listening to Hip-Hop. The Stimulus Package drops tomorrow, and I can assure you that this album is going to be nuts. I will be going to the local record store to purchase my copy right away tomorrow afternoon; you all should be doing the same. After hearing Freeway & Jake One’s chemistry on White Van Music, it only made sense for these two to collaborate on an entire project. I’ve got a whole onslaught of stuff for you guys to check out. First will be the video that showcases the spectacular packaging that Rhymesayers Entertainment is known for.  Secondly, I have three tracks off of the album for your listening pleasure, and lastly you can jump over to Amazon and listen to snippets of the entire album.

They Should Call Me Ludacris…

Because I’m back for the first time bitches! That’s right, I’m back at Mind Inversion again. I’ve done some serious thinking about this the last two weeks, and I think I’m ready to ease back into things again. It’s unfortunate that Culture Bully was put on hiatus, but I honestly can’t go without writing about Hip-Hop, so I’m back. My posting probably won’t be as copious and fruitful as it used to be, but I can assure you that I will post everything that I think is quintessential in the world of Hip-Hop. Give me a day or two to get used to this again, and it’ll be just like I never left.

Thank You everyone,

Tim “Alteez” Althaus

UPDATE: Hey Guys…

The last few days have been really tough on me. I’ve had to make a few decisions in my life that were pretty vital to my happiness. Hits have been dropping like crazy on the site, and it’s been a real struggle for me to try to post anything.

As of yesterday, I was pretty much done with the website. I got an e-mail from my buddy Ryan, and he was asking if I wanted to renew the domain name. At the time, I said no. I’ve been seriously thinking about if I want to continue Mind Inversion. I’ve come to one conclusion… I can’t live without it at this point. It’s so vital to my very being, that I can’t let go. If a better opportunity comes along, I may take it. But for now, Mind Inversion is my home.

I will be posting plenty of new stuff today, stay tuned.

I have found a new home for my writing. Starting very soon I will be writing for Culture Bully with my good friend Ryan and the rest of the guys. Thank you for the support and I hope you all follow me over there.

Here is some great footage of Immortal Technique. As many of you have probably know, this dude is extremely intelligent and his performances are some of the most passionate I’ve ever seen. In the interview he chops it up about in-store performances, how long he’s been rhyming for (and why), Mumia Abu-Jamal, Viper Records & major labels, and Project Greenlight. Follow me after the jump to watch his 30 + minute performance. Continue reading
