Watching this video was pretty much the highlight of my day. It also makes me want to see a live Black Milk show more and more. Watch this video as he completely destroys his set and tears it up for the fine city of Machester. He starts off the set with one of my favorites from Tronic, “Long Story Short”, and then follows with “So Gone” which was a track from Popular Demand. I love when Black jumps on the MPC and starts playing around with the beat for “The Matrix”. This guy has some serious skills and there’s no reason you shouldn’t check this. If you haven’t picked up Tronic yet I don’t know if there’s any hope for you…

Posted in Downloads with tags Black Milk, Detroit Hip-Hop, Random Axe, Slum Village, Tronic on Monday, March 23, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Man it seems like the year that Black Milk has been having can only happen in a dream. He released (in my opinion) the best album of last year, and is coming out with more deadly venom this year with a wide array of projects (Random-Axe, Tracks on the new Slum Village, working with KRS on a track).
This track “Dreams” is a web exclusive that Black Milk released and it sounds much like anything else he has done in the past, fire as hell. The beat starts out with a hard hitting bass to snare and fades to a nice piano and synth loop. Continue reading
Black Milk Talks Hip-Hop, The D & J Dilla
Posted in Video with tags Black Milk, Carter Cartel, Detroit Hip-Hop, Guilty Simpson, J Dilla, Random Axe, Sean Price, Tronic on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
I love being able to hear about any news that pertains to Black Milk. As I’ve said numerous times in the past, this guy is a phenom and he’s “Putting the “D” on his back like a shirt that he bought”. He’s been coming out with some of the most consistent Hip-Hop for the last few years with two critically acclaimed albums. I also gave his album Tronic which came out last year the nod for album of the year.
This is a really good interview that was put on by Carter Cartel and it’s very in depth. The interview rings in at almost 12 minutes long, but I think it’s totally worth it. There are a lot of issues that get discussed here. Black talks about performing to a crowd full of white kids in Boulder, Colorado, who he would work with now (dead and alive) and that Random Axe collabo that’s going to be absolutely ridiculous. Random Axe is a super group composed of Guilty Simpson, Sean Price & Black Milk. Not to mention that Black Milk will be doing production for the entire album. Black Milk also brings up, of course, the late great J Dilla and what it was like working with him as well as how much of an influence he is on Black Milk.
All in all a great interview. Make sure you watch the video and watch out for Random Axe dropping sometime this year.

Video: Royce Da 5’9″, “Part of Me” (Official Video)
Posted in Video with tags Detroit Hip-Hop, Hip-Hop, Part of Me, Royce Da 5'9", Street Hop on Monday, February 16, 2009 by Tim AlthausI’ve been waiting for this one for awhile. Here is the premier video for Royce Da 5’9″s single “Part of Me”, which is one Royce’s new album Street Hop due out April 21st. I can’t tell you how much I am anticipating to hear this new album of his, and this video is a great preface to it. Royce is one of those cats that has an unbelievable ability of story telling. The concept for this video is amazing and shouldn’t be missed. Make sure you go out and get Street Hop on April 21st, could be a major contender for album of the year.
Video: Black Milk, “Losing Out” (Featuring Royce Da 5’9″)
Posted in Video with tags Black Milk, Detroit Hip-Hop, Losing Out, Royce Da 5'9", Tronic on Thursday, February 12, 2009 by Tim AlthausMan, today has been an insanely good day for me as far as posting is concerned. Videos were released for two of my favorite songs from the last year. The first one was “For Whom the Bell Tolls” by Evidence, and now “Losing Out” by Black Milk. This song was a clear stand out on Black Milk’s album Tronic. The beat on this song is absolutely amazing (the sample is incredible, I heard the original song while riding around with my dad weeks ago) and Black Milk & Royce Da 5’9″ destroy every bar on this track as if it was their sole mission. I can’t tell you enough, if you haven’t picked up Tronic yet you should be kicking yourself in the ass. Make sure you watch out for Royce’s album Street Hop due out soon!
Colin Munroe on HipHop Dx’s DX NEXT
Posted in News with tags Black Milk, Colin Munroe, Detroit Hip-Hop, HipHop DX, Tronic on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 by Tim Althaus
I have already made a post about this extraordinary artist and prodigy Colin Munroe. This guy is absoutely captivating and is one of the most talented singers and musicians that I’ve heard in awhile. I normally am not a big fan of singers usually but this guy is a completely different story. I first heard this guy on Black Milk’s new album Tronic on the track “Without U” and was blown away by his talent. Some of you might have also heard of him from the “Flashing Lights (Remix)” and chances are if you haven’t heard of him yet you will very soon.
HipHop DX just did a feature on Colin Munroe in their DX Next feature. Apparently Colin is a huge fan of Detroit Hip-Hop and I’m guessing that’s how he got linked with Black Milk. Check out the article because it’s a great read on the future of music, because this kid is it.
Happy Birthday J Dilla!
Posted in Culture with tags Detroit Hip-Hop, Dilla Day, Donuts, G.O.A.T., Hip-Hop, J Dilla, The Shining on Saturday, February 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Today would have been Dilla’s 35th birthday. Needless to say if this man was still here with us, we wouldn’t be debating about who the best producer is right now. When Dilla passed he left us with two of the most beautiful masterpieces I have ever heard. Donuts changed the face of instrumental Hip-Hop forever and The Shining (not fully completed, but ended up getting finished) showed us that amazing things come in small packages (ringing in at just over 28 minutes long).
Dilla showed me something with these two albums (I hadn’t heard anything solo before this); he taught me that he is one of the most talented individuals to have ever touched the boards. Jay put out two albums that were just beyond words as to how beautiful they were. This was all while he was near death in Cedars Sinai Hosptial in Los Angeles. Dilla was a very resilient individual who did what was important to him no matter what the cause or case. Dilla literally stared death in the face and said “fuck you” because all he wanted to do was finish Donuts. If there’s anything that I hope in my life it is that I can be as dedicated and resilient as Dilla.
Happy Birthday to the King of Beats, May You Rest in Beats Jay
Video: Black Milk talks Just Blaze & being independent
Posted in Video with tags Black Milk, Detroit Hip-Hop, Just Blaze, Okayplayer, Out Da Box TV on Thursday, January 29, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
Black Milk seems to be one of those guys that people don’t stop talking about. After a year like he had last year, he’s bound to make constant headlines this year with every move he makes. In this video for Out Da Box TV, Black talks about why he is doing his thing on the independent route and also about the advice that he received from Just Blaze. Whatever this guy does lately seems to turn to gold. I hope to hear a lot more from Black Milk in the future and you know if there are you will find them here.

HipHop DX’s Producer’s Corner with Elzhi & Black Milk
Posted in Music News with tags Best of 2008, Black Milk, Detroit Hip-Hop, Elzhi, Hip-Hop DX on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus
As if you haven’t heard enough from me on Elzhi & Black Milk this last year, HipHop DX did a feature on these two at the end of last year in their Producer’s Corner. Elzhi & Black Milk took the Hip-Hop game by storm last year by releasing two of the best albums of 2008. This is a great interview and it makes for a long but very great read. If you like both of these artists (as I do very much) I would highly suggest that you read this article because it is very in depth and to the point.
Jump on over to HipHop DX and check out the article for yourself.
Also, if you didn’t get a chance to read my reviews of either of these albums here is your chance again.
Skillz: The 2008 Rap-Up
Posted in Downloads with tags Detroit Hip-Hop, Okayplayer, Rap Up, Skillz on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus
It’s the beginning of a new year and that means that the boy Skillz has his 2008 Rap up. If any of you have ever heard the year in Rap Up by Skillz, you know that shit is usually hilarious. This guy is a monster on the mic and never disappoints when he is rhyming. Skillz also plans on making a video for the Rap Up so you know you better stay tuned for that because you know I will have that up when it’s out.
