Wu-Tang has been one of the greatest dynasties that Hip-Hop has ever seen. Just about every group album has been stellar, not to mention that every solo album is top notch quality. Raekwon comes into Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 fourteen years after the original Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, which, to this day is a classic. The aforementioned information may pose the question: Is Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 as good as the original? The answer, in my opinion, is a definite yes. I took one run through this album in my car, and I knew immediately I was listening to a classic . Raekwon brings along an all-star cast of producers and emcees to “cook up”, without a doubt, one of the best albums of 2009. Creating a magnificent masterpiece that is just as good as it’s predecessor is no easy task, but as OB4CL2 shows, for The Chef it comes naturally. Continue reading

Yet another banger from J Dilla off of the Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 album, which I may remind you drops on September 8th. You may recall that the beat on this track was on the re-release of Jaylib, Champion Sound on the track “The Red”. I remember when I heard the beat initially (on the Jaylib album) and was kind of disappointed that Madlib had changed it. Either way you look at it, the beat does knock like crazy and these guys are dope as hell over it. Cappadonna’s verse is a little below average compared to Ghost Deini and The Chef, but it’s still a dope ass track.

Well look at this gem we have here courtesy of Nah Right. This is the video for the track “24k Rap” off of Dilla’s latest release Jay Stay Paid. This track is hard as hell, and is definitely one of my favorites on the album. I have to mention that the concept for this video is dope to, and I love the way it is shot. If you haven’t gone out and copped Jay Stay Paid yet, you are dead to me.
14KT Gives You Some Nowalataz

I’ve been waiting for this since I initially heard about it, and I will give thanks to 2DopeBoyz as I have too many times in the past. 14KT is a producer out of the Lab Techs collective in Ann Arbor, Michigan. If you haven’t heard about this guy I really do feel sorry for you. The beats that this guy has put out are nothing short of amazing. This is an album that 14KT has had done since 2006, when J Dilla passed away. Making these “donuts” was his way of coping with Dilla’s passing. On another note, you can catch 14KT on tour with Buff1, Mayer Hawthorne & House Shoes starting September 5th. Follow me after the jump for the download link. Continue reading
Ghostface Discusses Fishscale

I really wish my man Ryan was still around, because he would absolutely love this video. In this video Ghost breaks down what is probably his most critically acclaimed album, Fishscale. In the video he says that he went into this album having doubts about being able to write not smoking weed. He also mentions how he switched up the production on Fishscale to a more “underground feel” which included Pete Rock, DOOM, J Dilla & Just Blaze. I love hearing Ghost talk about Dilla & the “Whip You With a Strap” beat. He said he heard it and he felt as though he had to conquer it right away, and for him to lay down special meaning with his mom is some real ass shit.

T3 Talks About Baatin & Slum Village
Posted in Audio with tags Baatin, J Dilla, Slum Village, T3 on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausOn-Air Idiots was able to get T3 of Slum Village on the phone after his recent performance at Rock The Bells. These guys cover a lot of ground on this phone interview, and 3 even mentions that the new Slum Village album will be dropping in September. He also talks a great deal about his good friend (and original founding member) Baatin, and his unfortunate passing. T3 talks about almost being the “torchbearer” (if you will) to carry on the Slum Village name, and how much adversity both Slum Village & Detroit has been through. Apparently Baatin was supposed to be in Vancouver with Slum Village at the time of his passing, he just couldn’t go to Canada because of legal reasons. Baatin also briefly discusses catching a flight to go to Dilla’s funeral when then were on tour in Europe. This interview is full of real talk and it’s great to hear T3 carrying the torch and keeping the Slum Village name going.

Wild Style Wednesday Review: Slum Village, Fantastic, Vol. 2
Posted in Music Reviews, Wildstyle Wednesdays with tags Baatin, Busta Rhymes, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Fantastic, J Dilla, Jay Dee, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, T3, Ummah, Vol. 2 on Thursday, August 6, 2009 by Tim Althaus
I had another review planned for this week, but with the recent passing of Baatin this one feels a little more natural. Fantastic, Vol. 2 is another record that came very close to charting on my most influential albums list. Even though it wasn’t on my most influential albums list, this is another album that I can say would probably easily be in my top 20 favorite albums of all-time. The flow of this album is pure like water and yet it’s as melodic as heaven. Jay Dee’s production is so stellar on this album, that I’m fairly sure it will always withstand the test of time. From Jay Dee’s earlier Ummah sound, to the spaced out synth that he implemented later in his career, Fantastic, Vol. 2 has it all. Baatin, T3 & Jay Dee all sculpt to these tracks like clay and even though they aren’t the wittiest emcees in the world, this album is still utterly amazing. Continue reading
