Exclusive Video Bootleg: Cavalera Conspiracy live at Eurockeennes 2008 in France pro-shot footage surfaces online

Just this week a beautifully shot, professionally edited video of Cavalera Conspiracy‘s crowd-pleasing performance on July 5, 2008 at Eurockeenes in Belfort, France surfaced online via an unnamed source. Today, we are proud to provide you all with an exclusive premiere of this awesome playlist of songs, both old and new, as it first appeared on French public television this summer. The setlist is jam-packed with some of the best songs from Sepultura’s back catalog, with nearly every album from Max and Iggor’s career together receiving some kind of attention. These songs are executed with a ferocity and precision that is definitely unmatched since 1996 – maybe I’m wrong, but I’ve never seen the Derrick Green-fronted Sepultura ever crank out an “Arise/DEC” medley that could match this. However, it seems that Max and Iggor sound even best together on the stuff they have recently written, such as with “Must Kill” near the end of the set. If you missed seeing them live together this summer, enjoy; this is Sepultura!

Video: Joseph Duplaniter of Gojira interviewed by HBB Norway

Gojira interview with Headbanger's Ball

If my memory serves me correctly, Gojira is definitely the most versatile and praiseworthy death metal band to make a name for themselves in the last decade. Ever since the release of The Link, their star has noticeably been steadily rising, and with the release of last fall’s The Way of All Flesh the band has secured the most captive audience of their career. In this interview with MTV Norway’s Headbangers Ball, Joseph Duplantier gives us the details about the message he wanted to portray on the last album, why Gojira albums aren’t necessarily concept albums, and their new found (and well-deserved) fame. (ed note: Joe D. is obviously very satisfied with how The Way of All Flesh came out and how it was received. I had the opportunity to interview him at Cavalera Conspiracy’s debut gig in AZ last year, and Joe’s noticeably more eager and excited in this interview than he was then – and that is saying A LOT considering he was about to go on stage with the Cavalera brothers in their first gig in 10 years!)

Video: Tombs, “Gossamer” music video premieres

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Monday, February 2, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Tombs, Gossamer
My most anticipated underground metal album of the year, Winterhours by Tombs, actually has a music video for a song called “Gossamer”! Not much to say; it’s a pretty standard band performance directed by Kevin Custer, shot in low lighting, and emphasizing the dynamism and subtleties behind Tombs epic post-doom song structures. Relapse must be doing a pretty proactive job pulling the strings for these guys ’cause it even premiered at P4K of all places; Winterhours will be available on Feb. 17, 2009. Check it out!

Video: Minnesota-based local music internet TV show Northern Outpost airs third episode featuring The Yoleus

Recently the Minnesota music community gained a valuable addition when the Uptown Minneapolis-based internet TV show Northern Outpost launched at vimeo.com/northernoutpost. It’s a much needed visual outlet for local music artists that showcases the musicians with studio performances and interviews filmed at their coopted Owl Recording studio which air bi-weekly at Northern Outposts’ website. They’ve already gone through two episodes (that we unfortunately failed to mention here), and now they’re on to the third where they are featuring St. Paul avante-garde/mathrock group The Yoleus. In addition to a live performance of The Yoleus’s driving, bass-heavy rhythms and dissonant guitar theatrics at Owl Recording, the band gives a brief interview where they discuss topics ranging from the current local music scene to the nature of guitar-based instrumental music. It’s a really great show, and it looks like they’ll have an entire season of excellent local artists to come.

Stay tuned for more episodes; they’ve got 4 and 5 filmed already!  And don’t hesitate to click the links below to visit all of their previous episodes.

Episode 1: Andy Elwell (01/02/2009)
Episode 2: Kill to Kill (01/16/2009)
Episode 3: The Yoleus (01/30/2009)

Video: Ruby Hornet TV Interview with DJ Babu

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I caught this video over at 2DopeBoyz, and I have to admit it’s really good. Babu recently did a DJ show in Chicago (I really wish I could have made it) and he did an interview with Ruby Hornet TV. Basically he talks about a wide variety of topics like being able to get into DJing these days, things with Dilated Peoples (The group and the side projects), Duck Season 3 and getting out of the “bedroom” DJ mode. Babu is one of the most down to earth and humble cats you will hear about. This interview is well worth the 13 minutes of my time, I’m learning knowledge from one of the best.

I never knew that Stef had his first mastercopy of his new album stolen. In this video he talks about the issue of his album being stolen and how political the new album is.

On a seperate note you should definitely think about going out and getting P.O.S.’s new album Never Better out on Rhymesayers Entertainment February 3rd. It should be a great follow up to 2006’s Audition.

Video: Colin Munroe “Will I Stay (remix)” feat. Wale [Rehearsal Footage]

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Thursday, January 29, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

I want to tell you all that I am not posting this video because of Wale (because I think he is average, he’s good, but not that good) but because of Colin Munroe. I first heard Colin on Black Milk’s latest release Tronic on the track “Without U“. I had a chance to read about Colin Munroe, and I must admit that this guy can do pretty much anything, he is the complete package when it comes to a musician. When it comes to fresh voices and background vocals you are going to be hearing a ton of this guy in the next year. Check out this video and realize how amazing Colin Munroe is. Not to mention he produces most of his own music.
