Logh premiere official “Death to My Hometown” music video

Last week, the Swedish post-rock/shoegazers in Logh released a very interesting new music video with some dreamy psychedelic animations that bring the song “Death To My Hometown” from their North album to even greater heights for its release on the iTunes exclusive Death to My Hometown EP. The playful, lighthearted vibe of the video by Kenny Lindström contrasts amazingly with the gentle, reserved delivery of vocalist Mattias Fribeg; the like best post-rock, sometimes this band sounds the heaviest and most alive with feeling in the quietest moments. This video definitely realizes the potential of these amazing nuiances with brilliant explosion of joyous color that compliment the weight of the introspective reflection and accentuate it. I highly recommend heading over to iTunes to grab these new songs soon. The link to buy is listed below!

2. Forest Eyes RBG Version (Previously Unreleased)
3. Left Foot Breaking (Previously Unreleased)

The Bronx shred in (cyber?) shark-infested waters on “Knifeman” music video

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , on Thursday, April 23, 2009 by Ryan Buege

The Bronx recently passed through the Twin Cities with Trash Talk for a Triple Rock gig to support their new album The Bronx (III), so it’s presumable that we won’t be able to see them here in person in Minnesota for a while. Thankfully, the best hard-rock album of 2008 is getting some more video accompaniments to be broadcast around the globe, with Justin Enright and Tyler Ford directing a video for the band’s infectious groovy hardcore boot-stomper “Knifeman”. What seems to be a casual under-water shred-fest quickly turns into a bloodbath as the rockers struggle to outswim the agile (cyber?) shark that somehow infiltrated their pool…  Enter the pool with these punks, if you dare to tempt the virtual spawn of Jaws.

Moby releases David Lynch directed video for “Shot in the Back of the Head”

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , on Thursday, April 16, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Honestly, I had literally thought that Moby had disappeared from the face of the earth until I recently saw him pop up in some of the videos of Fucked Up‘s  rendition of “Blitzkrieg Bop” at their 12 hour concert marathon while I was watching on Youtube. Really, it had been a lonnnnnng time since I’d seen him. For all I knew, the dude had taken the millions upon millions of dollars that his songs had earned from being auction off and bought a one-way rocket ride back to whatever planet it was that spawned him. The dude has always seemed a bit creepy (and overrated) to me, but that doesn’t change the fact that I have found his schtick to be increasingly interesting as I’ve grown older…

On “Shot in the Back of the Head”, I think I have finally found the Moby that I can truly enjoy. These days, Moby seems to have fallen for post-rock, and I can’t complain; “Shot in the Back of the Head” is still electronic at its core, but the lush orchestration on this song is more beautiful than anything I’ve ever heard from him and has admittedly made me a late (and unlikely) convert to Moby’s fanbase. I’ll be waiting til June 30th to see if Wait For Me is really as good as it seems it might actually be. Enjoy the video; David Lynch has made a great companion to Moby’s gorgeous audio track.

Metal A/V Roundup: New ISIS music! Amon Amarth, Cattle Decapitation videos, much more

Isis, Wavering Radiant

Isis is back. In only a few weeks, their new album Wavering Radiant will be officially unveiled, and this guy couldn’t be happier! Really, when it rains it pours; within a short 24 hour period I’m getting my ears on the first tastes of music from new Converge AND Isis – I think my head is about to explode. Isis just posted the song “20 Minutes/40 Years” over at their MySpace website (UPDATE: we’ve got a free MP3 linked below), and I’m now, for the indeterminate future, dutifully listening on repeat to this precursor of the divine psychedelic doom metal that is coming to everyone’s ears by April 21st. You’ll all likely just have to resign to the same lifestyle as well, and Isis seems to think it should be enough for now. In their words:

We feel this [“20 Minutes/ 40 Years”] is a good representation of [Wavering Radiant]. Our friend Matt Santoro is working on a video for this song which will be completed around the time of the records release. This is also the song we showcased on the ATP tour we did back in December. We hope you enjoy it. There’s lots of “ear candy” in this one, so be sure to listen on some headphones – or, better yet, wait until the vinyl is released for full sonic enjoyment.

In other obscure regions of the metal realm, it was a very busy weekend as well. A number of metal videos and songs that recently surfaced are posted below for your viewing and listening entertainment. Enjoy!

Cattle Decapitation, Regret and the GraveCattle Decapitation – music video released this week for their first single (is it really called that for a grindcore band?) from The Harvest Floor, “Regret and the Grave“. It’s one that leaves little to the imagination; haunting, scary, sick’n’twisted, in-your-face blasting, grinding, gritty madness!

Amon Amarth, Guardians of Asgaard

Amon Amarth – their second music video from their recent Twilight of the Thundergod is now available, created for the defiant Viking death metal battle hymn “Guardians of Asgaard“. The song features Petrov from Entombed, and the video is epic and fucking awesome (in plainspeak). Nothing more needs to be acknowledged other than the fact that Amon Amarth owns, and the video and new album are further proof of their exalted status.

WATCH: Amon Amarth, “Guardians of Asgaard” (from Twilight of the Thundergod)

LISTEN: Torche, “Sugar Glider” (from Healer/Across The Shields 12″)

WATCH: Mastodon, Crack the Skye In Studio Video (full length, 10 episode edition!!)

LISTEN: Warbringer, “Severed Reality” (from Waking Into Nightmares, available 5/19)

WATCH: Iron Maiden, Flight 666 Trailer (available 4/21, and select screenings)

Röyksopp “Happy Up Here” video is a visual delight

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Röyksopp is a well-established electronic duo hailing from Norway that surely deserves the attention of anyone who enjoys the melodic electro pop or synthpop stylings of bands ranging from Massive Attack to Daft Punk to MGMT. On this first video from their new album Junior (available March 23rd), the visuals definitely vibe with the positive flow of “Happy Up Here”. Though I’m not sure of the director, this video inspires many of the same feelings as when I first saw many of the Justice videos or something Surface2Air might do over the last few years. The song’s soothing, but it has a beautiful, strong presence, that is complemented intriguingly by the sleek subliminal visuals of this video. Watch and respect, and don’t forget to check out more from Röyksopp online if you have yet to hear these guys. Continue reading

Cancer Bats on the “Deathsmarch”, new music video

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , , on Monday, February 23, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always envied the the prolific and seemingly “tight-knit” Toronto/Buffalo hardcore-punk scene; its no secret that there has been a long line of stellar bands to from this region, and this post is about the latest. The brand new “Deathsmarch” music video is pretty much quintessential Cancer Bats, a Toronto band of gritty punk rockers that is quickly gaining notoriety. “Deathsmarch” may be a bit more mid-paced than usual from these guys, but at its core it’s still the enthralling, disgusting, southern infected hardcore that they are known for. While perhaps a bit cheesy at times (though I think that probably has more to do with the overly enthusiastic fans than anything else), the video is a pretty awesome clip. It’s a really well-shot piece that could easily be mistaken for one of their lives shows if it the edit weren’t so clean.

When they are at their best, there is no one better at what they do. The over-the-top riffage and impassioned, engaging vocals that make their live shows so fun are also exactly what make “Deathsmarch” a great aural piece for this type of clip. Enjoy!

Video: Tombs, “Gossamer” music video premieres

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Monday, February 2, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Tombs, Gossamer
My most anticipated underground metal album of the year, Winterhours by Tombs, actually has a music video for a song called “Gossamer”! Not much to say; it’s a pretty standard band performance directed by Kevin Custer, shot in low lighting, and emphasizing the dynamism and subtleties behind Tombs epic post-doom song structures. Relapse must be doing a pretty proactive job pulling the strings for these guys ’cause it even premiered at P4K of all places; Winterhours will be available on Feb. 17, 2009. Check it out!
