Röyksopp is a well-established electronic duo hailing from Norway that surely deserves the attention of anyone who enjoys the melodic electro pop or synthpop stylings of bands ranging from Massive Attack to Daft Punk to MGMT. On this first video from their new album Junior (available March 23rd), the visuals definitely vibe with the positive flow of “Happy Up Here”. Though I’m not sure of the director, this video inspires many of the same feelings as when I first saw many of the Justice videos or something Surface2Air might do over the last few years. The song’s soothing, but it has a beautiful, strong presence, that is complemented intriguingly by the sleek subliminal visuals of this video. Watch and respect, and don’t forget to check out more from Röyksopp online if you have yet to hear these guys. Continue reading

If you haven’t heard by now, Slaughterhouse is the newest Hip-Hop super group out there. It is composed of Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I (of Circle of Bosses), and Royce Da 5’9″. These guys come together and unite like Megatron. I have to say this is one hell of a track, I haven’t heard much of anybody in the group lately except for Royce. I can’t wait until these guys release a proper full length because it sounds like they are going to destroy the game. eMC did the same thing and they put out one of the best albums of last year.
All of the guys that are in this group are going to be dropping albums in the year of 2009. Make sure you go out and get that solo material as well (Joe Budden’s album Padded Room is already out). You can also catch these guys at Paid Dues which, as always, looks to be a festival that is sure to please.
Download “Fight Club” here.

J Rocc’s 4th Thank You to Jay Dee
Posted in Downloads with tags Hip-Hop, J Dilla, J Rocc, Stones Throw, Thank You Jay Dee on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Tim AlthausI went over to Hip Hop Official today to get my daily does of news (as I do with all of my sources) and I stumbled across J Rocc’s latest masterpiece. Thank You Jay Dee, Act 4 is the latest installment of the podcast mixes that J Rocc has been putting out exclusively through Stones Throw. This mix sounds top tier and it doesn’t surprise me because J Rocc makes some of the best Dilla mixes out there. You will hear beats that you might have not heard, originals of samples Dilla used, and great remixes. After you get this one, make sure you go out and download the rest (Act 1, 2 & 3) as soon as you can because those are tight as hell to.

Mind Inversion interviews Vernal Pool
Posted in Interviews with tags across tundras, colorado, denver, eric torkelson, examination of the..., heath rave, lungs, sioux falls, south dakota, vernal pool on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Ryan BuegeVernal Pool is a Minneapolis-by-way-of-South Dakota doom metal band that really doesn’t give a shit if you like them or not – but they do think that right people might if they just had the time. It’s a sound that takes patience, but their free-minded, introspective, brand of classic doom metal is one that reveals many astonishing sonic rewards amidst its many varied layers, from devastation to meditative bliss. In truth, Vernal Pool may play the bleakest, slowest metal music you’re bound to hear in your life, and the wisping traces of shoegaze, Americana, western, and folk music that accent their doom, especially in the live setting, create a result is something very dark and haunting indeed. After nearly two years of work and quiet shows around the area, they’ve just finished putting their first record together and look to be releasing it soon. However, before it’s out they’ll be playing the album live at their shows around the area, the first of which comes next week when they open the much anticipated Battlefields, Irepress, Frontier show at Triple Rock Social Club in Minneapolis next Wednesday, March 11th. Ryan from Mind Inversion was able to meet up with Eric (vocals, bass) and Heath (drums) from Vernal Pool at their place in NE to talk about their band, their sound, their take on doom and experimental metal in the Midwest and Minneapolis, and what we can expect from their future.
Mind Inversion: For anyone not familiar with Vernal Pool, could you tell me a bit about yourselves, your history, where you come from, and how you all came together as Vernal Pool.
Eric Torkelson: Well Heath and I are both from South Dakota, near Sioux Falls, and we both left there.
Heath Rave: Yeah, exactly; we left…. Continue reading
Far signs a deal with Vagrant for ‘return’ fifth album
Posted in Music News with tags california, chris robyn, far, john gutenburger, jonah matranga, sacramento, shaun lopez, vagrant records on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Ryan BuegeJust a quick update for all of you who have been waiting for news since I posted that Far had reunited. Jonah, Shaun, Chris, and John have now announced that they’ve signed a deal with the reputtable Vagrant recording label. Also, accompanying this announcement was the great news that the band’s fifth long-player will be ready for public ears by the spring, the Southern Cali band’s first album in 12 years! From what I understand, Far had been looking to return to the edgier post-hardcore sound that they enjoyed on Tins Cans.. and their earlier albums. After watching Jonah dabble in the softer side of folk and emo for the last decade, it should be riveting to see him really rocking again. Here’s the word from Jonah:
“We had no idea all this would happen. We were just planning on getting to know each other again and playing a few shows, in between everything else we’ve got going on. But now, all of a sudden, the songs are coming, and it feels really good. All we’ve ever promised as people and as a band is that whatever we put out, whenever we come around, we’re gonna mean it.”
