Reflection Eternal, “In This World” + Video Trailer

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Video with tags , , , , on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 by Tim Althaus

Every once in awhile, a track will come along that makes me shake my head in sheer astonishment; this track is definitely one of them. I’ve been waiting for a new Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek record for a long time. These two single handedly changed many of my thoughts on Hip-Hop music. The gods answered my prayers (and those of many others), and Reflection Eternal will be dropping their new album Revolutions Per Minute on April 6th. I read somewhere that The Source already gave this album four and a half mics; if every track on this album follows the same formula as “In This World”, I’m having absolutely no problems believing that.

Hi-Tek’s production jumps out at me and I’m frozen like a deer in headlights; Tek concocts a skin crawling beat complete with a beautiful soul sample and brain bruising synthesizer notes. Talib proves that he’s still one of the best to do it on the microphone, “Aye yo’, I grab the mic until my hands develop the calluses/my style is bent/I only see myself and John Malkovich/my grind miraculous, rhyme from slums to palaces/facin’ all my challenges, raising the black power fist.”

I don’t know about you, but this track has me in awe. I have a strong feeling that Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek are going to make another album worthy of instant classic status; afterall, they are one of the greatest pairings in the game of Hip-Hop. Also included below is the video trailer for “In This World”; the visuals for this video look very impressive.

Evidence, “To Be Continued…”

Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags , , , , on Monday, February 22, 2010 by Tim Althaus

This made my day on Saturday when I found it, and I definitely want to give a big up to Shake over at 2DopeBoyz. I’ve been itching for some new Mr. Slow Flow material since The LAyover EP dropped, and it looks as though my prayers have been answered. Apparently, Premo dropped this track on his radio station the other night, and from what I’ve read, this track will not be featured on Cats & Dogs; either way you look at it, this track is dope as hell, but I already knew that was the case because it’s EV.

My 2010 Dilla Day Mix

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, February 18, 2010 by Tim Althaus

I don’t know if you guys were readers last year around this time, but I did this exact same thing. I am a huge fan of J Dilla; he is a huge inspiration to me. I actually made this mix on what would have been Dilla’s 36th birthday. I took a lot of time thinking about what tracks would go smoothly together, but I also thought about what tracks of his were among my favorites. The outcome? 23 tracks of straight unadulterated Jay Dee goodness.

I figured I would post this mix here because I really want everyone to be able to have it; it’s nothing big, but if one more person starts to listen to Dilla because of it, then I’ve done my job. James Yancey really was the king of the beats, and his presence is strongly missed in the music world. All of the tracks on this mix are either produced by or featuring J Dilla (with the exception of one).

(R.I.P. J Dilla February 7th, 1974 – February 10th, 2006)

Tracklisting:

1.) Words from Ma Dukes

2.) Reality Check (Feat. Black Thought) (J Dilla)

Posted in Album Update, Audio, Media, News, Video with tags , , , , , on Monday, February 15, 2010 by Tim Althaus

Alright, so here’s the deal. If you haven’t heard about the new Freeway & Jake One album yet, you shouldn’t be listening to Hip-Hop. The Stimulus Package drops tomorrow, and I can assure you that this album is going to be nuts. I will be going to the local record store to purchase my copy right away tomorrow afternoon; you all should be doing the same. After hearing Freeway & Jake One’s chemistry on White Van Music, it only made sense for these two to collaborate on an entire project. I’ve got a whole onslaught of stuff for you guys to check out. First will be the video that showcases the spectacular packaging that Rhymesayers Entertainment is known for.  Secondly, I have three tracks off of the album for your listening pleasure, and lastly you can jump over to Amazon and listen to snippets of the entire album.

I would have posted this yesterday, but my body was in a state of straight shut-down from Oktoberfest. 2DopeBoyz posted the snippets of Street Hop, which is being hosted by Amazon. I am listening to this as we speak, and it sounds like Royce has a fucking gem on his hands. If you don’t bother to take notice of this one you should be shanked in the side with a blunt and rusty object. You can pre-order Street Hop here. October 20th…

Brother Ali, Evidence, Toki Wright & BK-One, “Freshest Kids” (Track Download x Video)

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Video with tags , , , , , on Sunday, September 27, 2009 by Tim Althaus

First of all, let me start off by saying that “Freshest Kids” might be the track of the year. This shit is just plain ridiculous. I posted a video of Brother Ali & Toki recording this track a little while back, and this is the finished product. The beat on this track is incredible and all three emcees spits verses so hot it might leave your ears with third degree burns. I gotta give it up to BK-One, he’s concocted one of the best beats I’ve heard this year with this track. I’m bowing to these guys right now. And to think, they only recorded this track just for the tour… make sure you catch these guys when they come to your city, it’s going to be one hell of a show.

Aloe Blacc Talks About The “Very First Time”

Here is another track from the multi-talented Aloe Blacc. This time the track is called “Very First Time”, and he also produced the beat for this track. From what I read a while back, Aloe is working on a lot of new material right now. He will be putting out his own solo album, and he will be releasing another album with Exile (as Emanon) sometime in the future. Don’t sleep on this guy.

NBALIVE

It’s always great to hear new tracks from Pete Rock. The dude is one of the biggest legends in the history of the game. This new track, “When I Need It”, appears on the soundtrack of the newest NBA Live game. As you can expect, the beat and the rest of this track is super dope. I can’t wait for the new Soul Brother material to come out, nobody touches his beats these days. You can follow me after the jump to grab the De La Soul track that will also be featured on the soundtrack. Continue reading

KillahPriest_Elizabeth_Cover

I have to apologize for my posting (or lack there of) for the last couple days. School has hit full force, and I just don’t have as much time as I usually do. 2DopeBoyz posted the second leak off of KP’s upcoming album Elizabeth, “Murdah Murdah at Dawn”, the other day and I didn’t get a chance to post it right away. Priest is one of the best emcees in the game and I am really looking forward to hearing the new heat that he’s going to bring. Be sure to grab Elizabeth when you are out picking up Street Hop on October 20th.
