Posted in Media, Video with tags Culture VI, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx, Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, Raekwon, Slaughterhouse, The Chef on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausRecently (before the Joe Budden/Rock the Bells incident), Raekwon did a phone interview with Culture VI Media about OBFCL 2. Rae talks about what it was like to have such a classic album on his first release, and how it may have plagued his later releases. The Chef also talks about how he has grown as an artist, and what he thinks people expect out of him. In a somewhat startling beam of light, Raekwon reveals that he is a big fan of the Slaughterhouse movement and that he could see himself picking up their album. Follow me after the jump to grab the “Blood on the Chef’s Apron Freestyle” video. Continue reading
T3 Talks About Baatin & Slum Village
Posted in Audio with tags Baatin, J Dilla, Slum Village, T3 on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausOn-Air Idiots was able to get T3 of Slum Village on the phone after his recent performance at Rock The Bells. These guys cover a lot of ground on this phone interview, and 3 even mentions that the new Slum Village album will be dropping in September. He also talks a great deal about his good friend (and original founding member) Baatin, and his unfortunate passing. T3 talks about almost being the “torchbearer” (if you will) to carry on the Slum Village name, and how much adversity both Slum Village & Detroit has been through. Apparently Baatin was supposed to be in Vancouver with Slum Village at the time of his passing, he just couldn’t go to Canada because of legal reasons. Baatin also briefly discusses catching a flight to go to Dilla’s funeral when then were on tour in Europe. This interview is full of real talk and it’s great to hear T3 carrying the torch and keeping the Slum Village name going.

Ghostface & Raekwon Live @ The Nokia Theatre
Posted in Media, Video with tags Ghostface, ODB, Raekwon, Wu-Tang Clan on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausHere is some great footage of Ghost going through damn near the whole fucking Wu-Tang Clan catalog. The crowd goes absolutely crazy when he starts messing around with the ODB shit. You can hear the crowd singing pretty much the entire song, which shows just how loyal Wu fans can be. He also runs through “Triumph”, “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthin’ to Fuck Wit” & he brings The Chef out for the rendition of “C.R.E.A.M.”. I haven’t had the pleasure, but I can’t imagine what it’s like to see Ghost & The Chef do a show together. These two just feed off of each other like crazy, and the energy the accrues could blow the roof off any venue.

The Sunday Show Episode 12, “Season 1 Finale”
Posted in Media, Video with tags Blatz Market & Liquor, Episode 12, Season 1 Finale, The Sunday Show on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
I can’t believe that your favorite podcast about nothing in particular is on its first season finale. For the last episode of the first season, the guys go back to visit Blatz Market & Liquor for some quality beer tasting. The guys decided to do this because according to the polls that everyone participated in, episode 3 was the clear favorite of the season. If any of you readers out there consider yourselves beer connoisseurs, I would definitely check this episode, as well as episode 3 out. I look forward to seeing much more of the guys at The Sunday Show, and I hope you guys do to.

Posted in Media, Video with tags Blue Scholars, Geo, Hi-808, OOF! EP, Sabzi on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
As you may remember, my man Nolan put up the preview for the “Hi-808” music video last week. Today the scholars released the world premier video for the track. The video is definitely shot very well, and to be honest I think it’s great. I can’t get enough of these guys. Ever since the first time I heard the album Bayani I was totally hooked on their music. I can assure you that I will be definitely grabbing the OOF! EP when it comes out digitally on August 25th.

Vast Aire Wages the “Battle of the Planets”
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Beef, Cage, Camu Tao, Def Jux, El-P, Genisis, Vast Aire on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim Althaus
If you haven’t been paying attention to the beef-radar lately, Vast Aire released a diss track towards Cage and the rest of Def Jux. All of this rivalry going on has to do with the unfortunate passing of Camu Tao. Cage outed Vast very harshly about how his relations really stood with Camu, and this track apparently was Vast’s response. It really saddens me to see all this bullshit beef going on in the Hip-Hop community, it’s really the last thing that we need right now.
On a related side note, I got an e-mail on my Blackberry last night about El-P’s newest blog post on MySpace. It is pretty much all about Vast and the whole Camu situation, and if you have a moment to spare I would highly recommend you check it out here.

Atmosphere / Brother Ali / Reef the Lost Cauze freestyle
Posted in Media, Video with tags Ant, Atmosphere, Brother Ali, Reef the Lost Cauze, Slug on Sunday, August 9, 2009 by Nolan LevensonSo I had the pleasure of seeing Atmosphere oustide the TC at a show in Philadelphia in May on the “When God Give You Ugly Tour” with Brother Ali opening. At the end of the show they brought out Reef the Lost Cauze to freestyle over the “Smart Went Crazy” beat. Reef absolutely killed it and I’m happy I found this video, dropping tons of sweet Philly references (including Wawa!). Unfortunately the sound qualiy isn’t great, but it’s still enjoyable.
Big Daddy Kane live in Brooklyn

This video comes from 2dopeboyz. Big Daddy Kane did a show in Brooklyn last night. Here’s part of the set with Kane performing “Ain’t No Half Steppin'” off of his debut album of 1988 Long Live the Kane.
The Budden / Wu Beef continues
Posted in News, Video with tags Joe Budden, Raekwon, Wu-Tang Clan on Sunday, August 9, 2009 by Nolan LevensonI cannot believe we are still talking about this, but apparently some rappers’ egos are just to large. Just when we thought the Joe Budden / Wu Tang beef was subsiding, there was apparently a backstage altercation yesterday in Los Angeles. That’s just fanastic. I hate when professional musicians cannot act professional. This bout is childish to say the least. Rock the Bells is supposed to be an event where hip hop’s greats can come together to create a great day of music.
The video above is from Budden’s live stream after he was punched in the eye by someone in Ice Water, Raekwon’s posse. Afterwards, according to HipHopDX, police officials reportedly closed the backstage and the concert performances were cut short. Crooked I apparently went with his posse, Circle of Bosses, to find the assailants and had this to say, “Ain’t nobody gonna disrespect one of my dudes when we on the west coast.“
I really wish that this sort of stuff didn’t happen. It doesn’t benefit anyone.
