Chali 2na is the Hip Hop Official Artist of the Week

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, September 2, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Here is another legendary emcee that I never get sick of hearing about. Chali 2na (as all of you should know) is the former frontman of Jurassic 5, and he has one of the most recognizable voices in Hip-Hop. In this video the Verbal Herman Munster speaks on his latest solo album, Fish Outta Water, and how it’s been something that has been in his mind for a long time. Chali also talks about trying to make his music that it connects on an emotional level with the listener, as well as how his son inspires his music. Definitely worth checking out, Chali is a legend.

Stokes show was on August 30th at SOBs. Here’s some footage of the Cool Kids set, performing “Champions” of the Gone Fishing mixtape with Don Cannon. Follow me after the jump for “Gold and a Pager”.

Big L Documentary, Street Struck: The Big L Story, Coming Soon

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Monday, August 31, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Now this is what I am talking about. It’s about time someone decided to make a movie about Big L. The dude is a legend in the game, and if he was with us right now he would probably be strong holding everyone. There will be a documentary coming out called Street Struck: The Big L Story, and I can assure you that it will be good. This is the trailer, and it has a lot of people that knew Big L, as well as people that were influenced by him. It’s definitely great to see Jin in the movie, I haven’t seen him forever but he’s incredibly dope. I can assure you I will be making the purchase when this comes out.

Brother Ali Speaks on Downloading Vs. Buying Music

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Monday, August 31, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Definitely some great material here. In this Vlog, Brother Ali touches on his thoughts about downloading music (illegally) as well as buying it in tangible form. I’m pretty sure that I agree with every single thing that Brother Ali says. I will admit, I definitely download music when I don’t have the cash to buy hard copies. But I can assure you that I buy CD’s as well, and I go to as many shows as I can to show support. The point that he makes about all of the finances that go into putting albums out is really good, and I think everyone should think about that. This is just one of the many reasons that Ali is one of the best emcees out there.

The Chef Talks About His New Album & Beef with B.I.G.

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, August 31, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Are you sick of hearing about Raekwon and his new album Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2? I didn’t think so. This is a really good interview with The Chef where he skews a bunch of different topics. He talks about how the new Cuban Linx is going to be different than the last one, his thoughts on Larry Davis and how he was killed and some insane shit that you might not have expected to hear about Biggie. I highly suggest you check out this video, there are a lot of really good topics covered in this one. Make sure you go out and get Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 on September 8th.

Slaughterhouse Performs “Fight Club” @ First Ave Rock the Bells Show

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , , on Monday, August 31, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I missed this fucking show because I was an idiot. My friend Aaron told me about Rock the Bells being at First Avenue awhile back. I didn’t even know that Rock the Bells was coming through Minneapolis until mid-July, and by that time it was just too late. It seems like all I do is miss out on shows that I want to go to, I really need to make some changes so I can see some more live music. Here is some live footage of the Slaughterhouse Machine performing at the First Ave. Rock the Bells stop in Minneapolis. On the above video you can catch the track “Fight Club”, and you can follow me after the jump to catch “Onslaught”. Continue reading

The Foreign Exchange Take You To Their “House of Cards”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Friday, August 28, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Talk about an amazing group. The Foreign Exchange has been one of my favorite groups over the past few years, and it’s because not many people mesh as well as Phonte & Nicolay. I had given the album Leave it all Behind some rough comments, but since then I have learned to love the album a great deal. The video for “House of Cards” (Feat. Muhsinah) is nothing short of incredible, everything is pristine from the production to the concept. It just might be up there with “House of Flying Daggers” for one of the top videos of the year.

DJ Khalil Runs Us Through The Making of “Kind of a Big Deal”

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Friday, August 28, 2009 by Tim Althaus

If you’ve been sleeping under a rock, it would make sense that you have no idea who DJ Khalil is. This guy have been making some of the craziest beats in the Hip-Hop game for the last few years. In this video with Hip Hop Official, Khalil takes us through the process that was implemented while making the Clipse track, “Kind of a Big Deal“. I love the fact that there are absolutely no samples in this track, don’t get me wrong I love sampling but I think it’s much cooler when producers chop live instrumentation. Everything in this video makes me have a greater appreciation for Kahlil’s talent, and this beat in general. (Side Note* I love how they play the beat for Evidence, “All Said & Done” in the video)

Jay Electronica Performs “Google Eyes” Live

Posted in Media, Video with tags , on Friday, August 28, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Here is some more live of the phenom, Jay Electronica, performing some live shit. In this video (that comes to us courtesy of Nah Right) he performs the track “Google Eyes”, which I’m pretty sure I haven’t had the pleasure of hearing. I don’t know how many times I have to say it, but damnit, I want that Jay Electronica full length like now. And for the umpteenth time, why the hell did I miss this show?
