New Brother Ali single!

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Music News, News with tags , , , , on Monday, August 17, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Above you can listen to Brother Ali’s new track “Fresh Air” which was released today digitally. I gotta say, this may be the best hip hop track I’ve heard all year. The beat is simply amazing (although I am a HUGE Ant fan so I’m a little biased). I heard this track live at Soundset and then again at One Day in July in downtown Minneapolis and have been waiting to get this track for a while now. This track is getting me more PUMPED for Ali’s Us due out September 22nd. Make sure you catch Ali with Evidence and Toki Wright on tour this fall.

Felt 3 producer revealed + free track!

And the winnner is……Aesop Rock! That’s right, Aesop Rock will be producing the new Felt album, the tribute still TBA. Rhymesayers released a track yesterday evening for FREE called “Protaganists” with MURS proclaiming “The Felt boys are back, the boys of summer / and this time ya boy Aes Rock is the drummer”.

I was excited to hear the track, but I am a little disappointed with the Aesop Rock selection. While he is a capable producer, I thought RSE and Felt would be pulling something crazier and less expected. Regardless, the track is pretty good, you can download it below or visit the RSE website.

Joe Budden, “No Comment” & “Clothes on a Mannequin”

Joey’s Escape Route dropped today and thanks to 2DopeBoyz we have two more leaks off of the album. We heard “No Comment” in an earlier post, but that was only radio rip quality, and “Clothes on a Mannequin” is one that we haven’t heard yet. J. Cardim produced both of the tracks, and as usual you can expect Budden to be spitting his heart out. If you haven’t you can cop Escape Route over at Amalgam Digital.

*Side Note: I know a lot of people have been hating on Budden a lot lately. Either way you look at the situation going on right now… Budden is a damn good lyricist.

Masta Ace & EDO G are A&E

A&E

I have to thank the homie Shake (as I have numerous times in the past) for this one. I had been catching of Masta Ace’s tweets awhile back about working on a project with EDO G. Thanks to the guys at 2DopeBoyz we have the first leak off of their LP Arts & Entertainment which is due to hit shelves on October 6th. There will be guest appearances from Large Professor, Posdonus, KRS-ONE, DOITALL (Lords of the Underground Crew) as well as Chester French & Marsha Ambrosious. I just listened to this first track “Little Young” and it’s phenomenal, and the concept is funny as hell. Is it just me or has M-Phazes been pumping out heat rocks since A Pipe Dream & a Promise? Follow me after the jump to download the track “Little Young” & peep the tracklisting for Arts & Entertainment. Continue reading

T3 Talks About Baatin & Slum Village

Posted in Audio with tags , , , on Monday, August 10, 2009 by Tim Althaus

On-Air Idiots was able to get T3 of Slum Village on the phone after his recent performance at Rock The Bells. These guys cover a lot of ground on this phone interview, and 3 even mentions that the new Slum Village album will be dropping in September. He also talks a great deal about his good friend (and original founding member) Baatin, and his unfortunate passing. T3 talks about almost being the “torchbearer” (if you will) to carry on the Slum Village name, and how much adversity both Slum Village & Detroit has been through. Apparently Baatin was supposed to be in Vancouver with Slum Village at the time of his passing, he just couldn’t go to Canada because of legal reasons. Baatin also briefly discusses catching a flight to go to Dilla’s funeral when then were on tour in Europe. This interview is full of real talk and it’s great to hear T3 carrying the torch and keeping the Slum Village name going.

Vast Aire Wages the “Battle of the Planets”

Vast Aire 073

If you haven’t been paying attention to the beef-radar lately, Vast Aire released a diss track towards Cage and the rest of Def Jux. All of this rivalry going on has to do with the unfortunate passing of Camu Tao. Cage outed Vast very harshly about how his relations really stood with Camu, and this track apparently was Vast’s response. It really saddens me to see all this bullshit beef going on in the Hip-Hop community, it’s really the last thing that we need right now.

On a related side note, I got an e-mail on my Blackberry last night about El-P’s newest blog post on MySpace. It is pretty much all about Vast and the whole Camu situation, and if you have a moment to spare I would highly recommend you check it out here.

Two New Slaughterhouse Tracks

Damn, I don’t really have a whole lot to say. If you pirated this album, you should be shanked with a thousand microphones repeatedly until your death. Here are two new tracks from the Slaughterhouse conglomerate courtesy of 2DopeBoyz. These tracks both go harder than concrete, and I can assure you that I will be at the store on August 11th during my break to pick this one up. The first track below is “Microphone” which is produced by Alchemist, whom you all know never disappoints. The second joint is produced by Emile and it’s called “Onslaught 2” and Emile’s horns paint a beautiful backdrop for these Royce, Joell, Joe & Crooked to massacre. Don’t fucking sleep.

Oh No, Ethiopium (Snippets Download)

ethiopium

I can’t believe I totally spaced this one yesterday. I was on Twitter when I caught Dr. No tweeting about leaking some material. He posted the link and I wanted to get to it, but it slipped my mind. If you don’t know, Oh No is Madlib’s brother (although that really shouldn’t be that relevant) and he’s one of the illest producers in the game. You may not know of Oh No highly, but you will in the future. No can make beats with the best cats in the game without question. If you haven’t heard his album Dr. No’s Oxperiment, you haven’t heard an amazing modern day beat tape. All of the work I’ve heard from Mr. No is far exemplary, and there’s no doubt I will continue to support his work to the fullest.

I just heard a little bit of this new album by Sareem Poems (formerly Poems and Sharlok Poems) called Black and Read All Over.  There are a couple of great tracks. I would highly recommend checking it out. The album features Akil of J5, Pigeon John, Theory Hazit, LMNO, Scarub, & Ohmega Watts.

Here are my faves:

Sareem Poems – “Tell It”

Sareem Poems – “Lower the Boom” (feat. Pigeon John & Akil of Jurassic 5)
