Fashawn Talks Boy Meets World & Alchemist Mixtape

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , , on Sunday, August 16, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Fash 2There aren’t many up and coming emcees that have the hype that Fashawn has garnered for himself. He’s already got Evidence & Alchemist backing him like crazy, not to mention that he has a full length album coming out that is produced entirely by Exile. Needless to say, if you have had your ear to the ground for the the last year or so, you should know about Fash by now… I read an article on HipHopDX about this guy, and he seems like he is one hell of a worker when it comes to doing his thing.

Fashawn’s aforementioned debut album with Exile, Boy Meets World, is going to be pushed back to October because of personal issues that he has to tend to. According to the article, the fans can expect a lot of 90’s influence on this album from the likes of Common, Nas & Gang Starr. One can say that there may be  great deal of nostalgia attached to this album.

All of you heads out there need not worry. Fashawn will be releasing a mixtape with Alchemist which will be coming soon. This is what Fash had to say about working with ALC, “Hanging around Alchemist all day, you know I’m hearing the best beats you can possibly imagine and I’m writing the craziest shit you can possibly imagine”.

It sounds like we can expect some bright things from Fashawn in the future, this guy seems to be the future of West Coast Hip-Hop right along the side of emcee Blu & Evidence. Make sure you stay tuned, I will have my eye open for any news that pertains to this guy.

Felt 3 producer revealed + free track!

And the winnner is……Aesop Rock! That’s right, Aesop Rock will be producing the new Felt album, the tribute still TBA. Rhymesayers released a track yesterday evening for FREE called “Protaganists” with MURS proclaiming “The Felt boys are back, the boys of summer / and this time ya boy Aes Rock is the drummer”.

I was excited to hear the track, but I am a little disappointed with the Aesop Rock selection. While he is a capable producer, I thought RSE and Felt would be pulling something crazier and less expected. Regardless, the track is pretty good, you can download it below or visit the RSE website.

Evidence & Alchemist Perform “Letyourselfgo” @ Rock the Bells

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Thank you to Shake over at 2DopeBoyz. This is just some raw footage of one of my favorite emcees and one of my favorite producers. News about Evidence never seems to get old to me, and it seems like Cats & Dogs is right around the corner. I haven’t been able to put Alchemist’s Chemical Warfare down for the last two weeks, it just keeps getting better after every listen. Make sure you guys watch out for the Step Brothers album coming out next year as well.

*Side Note: “Letyourselfgo” is one of my favorite tracks off of The Weatherman LP

Shout out to NahRight for the find.

Just got a facebook update about the new video from Pacewon and Mr. Green for their track “She Can Be So Cold” off of last year’s The Only Color that Matters Is Green (which I would HIGHLY recommend).

Black Moon – A Tribute to the Classics live

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Friday, August 14, 2009 by Nolan Levenson

Black Moon and Smif ‘n’ Wessun have lately been pretty big on performing their  classic albums Enta Da Stage and Dah Shinin’, respectively, in their entirety. This video, via 2dopeboyz, has a chunk of Black Moon’s set performing live in Brooklyn for another free show (ugh, I can’t believe I missed this, I just got back to NY). It’s super weird to hear the beats with a live band since I’m so used to letting those Beatminerz beats bang, but still good nonetheless.

Album Review: Slaughterhouse, Slaughterhouse

Posted in Music Reviews with tags , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus

slaughterhouse-718945 I (as well as everyone else) knew well before this album came out that this album was going to be a benchmark for lyrical linguistics. Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I & Royce Da 5’9″ are all known for their raw radical and introspective lyrics, and when you put them together the results are going to be monumental. On this album Slaughterhouse sets out to prove that although you may have thought Hip-Hop was close to dead, they plan on showing you it isn’t. I can almost assure you that there probably won’t be another album to come out this year that has anywhere near the lyrical display of this album. Continue reading

Exile & DJ Day Live in Paris & Amsterdam

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Thursday, August 13, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Every single time I see one of these videos I’m more astonished than the time before. Exile & DJ Day have been doing their thing with MPCs for a while now, and 2DopeBoyz had some video footage over on their page. What these guys do is utterly amazing and I would give almost anything to see them do their thing live. Make sure you go out and get Exile’s Radio now. Follow me after the jump for the Amsterdam performance. Continue reading
