In lieu of my friend and comrade Erik Burg leaving us at Mind Inversion, I wanted to do a review that would hit close to home with him. When you think of dynamic duos, you tend to think of pairings such as Premier & Guru, Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth and not to mention Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. This is where Rjd2 and Blueprint come into the equation. From the first time that I heard these guys collaborate on Rjd2’s album Dead Ringer I knew they were going to be preposterous pairing in every aspect. Continue reading

This guy is quickly becoming one of my favorite emcees, if you haven’t checked out A Pipe Dream and a Promise you are truly sleeping. You can follow me after jump for part 2 which has Finale spitting an acapella on the streets of LA. Continue reading
The Step Brothers (Evidence & Alchemist) Tell You to “Just Step”
Posted in News with tags Alchemist, Chemical Warfare, Evidence, Just Step, Step Brothers on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 by Tim Althaus
This is the shit that I like to hear. Last night EV dropped the newest Step Brothers leak via Twitter, and all I can say is that it’s a gem. Evidence and Alchemist make some incredible music together and this track is truly no different. As I have mentioned in many posts before, I really can’t wait for this album because it’s going to be raw as hell. Listen to Mr. Slow Flow and The Chemist rip apart this track. Also if you haven’t, make sure you go out and get Alchemist’s album Chemical Warfare which is in stores now.

As I mentioned in a previous post, this track has two incredible emcees on the same track spitting phlegm that will leave you mesmerized. The video was directed excellently by Yoram Benz & Jason Goldwatch. The visuals in this video are awesome and they compliment the track really well. Here is the newest single from Royce Da 5’9″ off of his Revival EP, and it features the rest of the Slaughterhouse crew. The track is called “Warriors” and it’s just more of what you would expect from these guys. The beat is full of nice triumphant horns, and it is perfect for all four of these guys to kick the shit out of. The one thing that I can’t get over is how much all four of these guys truly bring to the microphone on every single track. Make sure you grab this one, it will not dissapoint.

Fashawn Talks About “Life As a Shorty”
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Boy Meets World, Exile, Fashawn, Life As a Shorty on Friday, July 3, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Fashawn is another one of those cats that I can’t get enough of. He has been killing shit on the left coast all over the place lately, and now he drops this gem produced by Exile (as well as the rest of the album). This track will be on his debut LP Boy Meets World which comes out on September 1st. Exile’s production on this track is superior, and Fashawn spits some incredible bars. The thing I love about Fashawn is that his lyrics paint a picture like Monet, at the same time those same lyrics can tell a story like Hemmingway. In this track his remniscent recollection of his childhood is impeccable, and shouldn’t be slept on by anyone.

Slaughterhouse Brings You “The One”
Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags Crooked I, DJ Khalil, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz, Royce Da 5'9", Slaughterhouse, The One on Friday, July 3, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Man, these guys have put out 2 tracks that have just astonished me beyond belief. The wordplay that every one of these guys has is impeccable, and the production that we’ve heard has been top quality as well. DJ Khalil lays down a nice rock guitar infused beat that has Royce Da 5’9″, Crooked I, Joell Ortiz & Crooked I all spitting lava just like Kilauea. This album sounds like it is quickly shaping up to be a classic…

Black Milk Broadcast, Episode 1
Posted in Media, Video with tags Alchemist, Black Milk, Elzhi, Europe, Guilty Simpson, Hex Murda, Tronic on Friday, July 3, 2009 by Tim AlthausBlack Milk is one of my favorite performers there is, the guy is pretty much flawless when it comes to music. Apparently when Black was touring overseas (with Elzhi (the best emcee on the planet right now)), he decided to put together some footage and start a new video series. In this first episode you get an inside look in the studio with Black Milk, Alchemist, Guilty Simpson and Hex Murda. You will also get some great live footage of Black Milk performing, and some hilarious yet insightful behind the scenes footage. It’s great to see all of the people over seas showing Black Milk love, and they also love to drop the n-bomb. Make sure you stay tuned for the rest of the installments, because you know I will have them up at Mind Inversion.
