A Movie That is Truly “Straight Outta Compton”

Posted in Music News, Video with tags , , , , , , , on Monday, March 9, 2009 by Tim Althaus

nwaThat’s right folks, you can all start jumping up and down yelling “Fuck the Police, Fuck the Police, Fuck ’em”. An article that I read today at Hip Hop DX mentioned that Dr. Dre, Ice Cube & Tomica Wright (Eazy E’s widow) are all going to be on board as well as producers of the movie. The article also said that they are thinking about a director somewhere along the lines of Curtis Hanson (who directed 8 Mile).

I can’t imagine how gangsta this movie is going to be. N.W.A influenced an entire generation of emcees on the independent circuit and paved the way for cats who wanted to rap for a living.  They did all of  the aforementioned information all while telling a After the success of the movie Notorious I really think that this movie, as well, could be a smash at the box office. “I’m Not Alone” Gets an Official Video and Release Date

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Music News with tags , , , , , , on Monday, March 9, 2009 by Erik Burg

Calvin Harris‘ blazing new single that’s been blowing up ever since it hit the BBc airwaves a little over a month ago now has an official video. I’m not as big of a fan of the video as I am of the actual track, but still, it’s certainly not bad. He returns with the signature “Bee Hive” look again, which is kind of an interesting motif. Anyway, check it out below, along with some more details about when can get your hands on an official mix.

“I’m Not Alone” can be had digitally April 5th, or physically on April 13th. Apparently some remixes will be available on the 12th, but as far as who is doing the editing I’m unaware of, so feel free to comment if you know. I’m excited for his new stuff, he really seems to be growing as an artist, and if you weren’t originally a fan of his stuff I’m convinced the new album will convert you.

MMIXDeathwish Inc. continues its trend of being the only hardcore label worth paying attention to; this month they’ve teamed up with the Malfunction and Six Feet Under labels to bring their early 2009 sampler of the best active talent on their roster. In addition to tracks from recently released albums by Trap Them, Victims, Supermachiner, and Carpathian, we’re treated to completely new songs from the likes of the legendary Hope Conspiracy (from their forthcoming True Nilihist EP), Pulling Teeth, Coliseum, Integrity, Narrows, Resurrection, and J. Bannon himself. Plus, there’s many more contributions, including some crazy 4o-sec. Doomriders cover of what sounds to be White Zombie’s “Thunderkiss ’65” that bluntly questions “Do You Like to Slam Dance?”.. Well, since you asked, hell yes!  Why don’t more record labels do this type of thing on a regular basis?

“A Yo”, Method Man & Redman Are Back!

Posted in Downloads, Media with tags , , , , , on Friday, March 6, 2009 by Tim Althaus

method_man_redman_how_high_001-757149 I’ve been hearing buzz about a new Blackout! album that is in the works, and let me tell you I’m pretty pumped about it. Method Man & Redman just dropped this new track “A Yo” which features Saukrates and a bomb ass beat. I remember when Meth & Red’s album Blackout! first came out I had that shit. I was like 12 or 13 when that album dropped. Let me tell you, that album didn’t leave my constant rotation for like two years straight. Not only are these two guys great fucking emcees, but they are downright hilarious as well. Blackout! is a classic in my opinion and the thought of these two getting back together for another album makes me think about the possibilities.

These two have established themselves at the top of the game, and this track is one hell of an example. Make sure you listen to the track and stay tuned to Mind Inversion for current information about Blackout! 2.

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble push LP release to September

Posted in Downloads with tags , , , , , on Friday, March 6, 2009 by Ryan Buege

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble, the evocative, organic dark jazz group from the Netherlands, has decided to push the release of their second LP Here Be Dragons back to September, and that’s just fine with me! TKDE had just released a 39-minute 8-track EP entitled Mutations in February 2009 that could have easily passed for a full-length to an uninitiated listener, and I’m still busy getting acquainted with all of the mesmerizing nooks and crannies of this incredibly warm and beautiful composition of downtempo, post-rock, and so-called doom jazz. Their sound is many things at once, grandiose and theatrical in composition and a maze through ones own psyche.  Mutations is a very emotional piece of music of ethereal perfection  and deserves time to be heard before they move on to the next phase.

However, those of you who are anticipating new music from The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble won’t have to wait long! They’ll be releasing a live album this May and “promised” to start leaking tracks from Here Be Dragons soon after that. Listen in to this songs from Mutation for now, and stay tuned to their web space for more info…

Röyksopp “Happy Up Here” video is a visual delight

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , , , , , on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Röyksopp is a well-established electronic duo hailing from Norway that surely deserves the attention of anyone who enjoys the melodic electro pop or synthpop stylings of bands ranging from Massive Attack to Daft Punk to MGMT. On this first video from their new album Junior (available March 23rd), the visuals definitely vibe with the positive flow of “Happy Up Here”. Though I’m not sure of the director, this video inspires many of the same feelings as when I first saw many of the Justice videos or something Surface2Air might do over the last few years. The song’s soothing, but it has a beautiful, strong presence, that is complemented intriguingly by the sleek subliminal visuals of this video. Watch and respect, and don’t forget to check out more from Röyksopp online if you have yet to hear these guys. Continue reading

Slaughterhouse brings you to the “Fight Club”

Posted in Downloads, Media with tags , , , , , , on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Tim Althaus

slaughterhouse If you haven’t heard by now, Slaughterhouse is the newest Hip-Hop super group out there. It is composed of Joell Ortiz, Joe Budden, Crooked I (of Circle of Bosses), and Royce Da 5’9″. These guys come together and unite like Megatron. I have to say this is one hell of a track, I haven’t heard much of anybody in the group lately except for Royce. I can’t wait until these guys release a proper full length because it sounds like they are going to destroy the game. eMC did the same thing and they put out one of the best albums of last year.

All of the guys that are in this group are going to be dropping albums in the year of 2009. Make sure you go out and get that solo material as well (Joe Budden’s album Padded Room is already out). You can also catch these guys at Paid Dues which, as always, looks to be a festival that is sure to please.

Download “Fight Club” here.

J Rocc’s 4th Thank You to Jay Dee

Posted in Downloads with tags , , , , on Thursday, March 5, 2009 by Tim Althaus

43-thankyou-455

I went over to Hip Hop Official today to get my daily does of news (as I do with all of my sources) and I stumbled across J Rocc’s latest masterpiece. Thank You Jay Dee, Act 4 is the latest installment of the podcast mixes that J Rocc has been putting out exclusively through Stones Throw. This mix sounds top tier and it doesn’t surprise me because J Rocc makes some of the best Dilla mixes out there. You will hear beats that you might have not heard, originals of samples Dilla used, and great remixes. After you get this one, make sure you go out and download the rest (Act 1, 2 & 3) as soon as you can because those are tight as hell to.
