Reflection Eternal is Hitting Up Your “Internet Connection”

kwe-and-hiOh, blessed is the day! Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek released a new track on the internet called “Internet Connection” and it features legend Bootsy Collins. To be honest this track didn’t hit me like previous Reflection tracks, but to be honest it’s still damn good. Kweli & Tek haven’t skipped a beat and I’m hopin this track is just one in a line of many that we get to hear in the following months. Hi-Tek’s production skill on this track is on point (as it always is), and Kweli’s lyrics tear through the track like paper. Kweli said he is hoping that the new Reflection will be out by the end of the year; God I hope so. You can be sure that I will be keeping you up to date every step of the way with the new Reflection Eternal album.

Talib Rocks the Bells with Mos Def and Blacksmith TV

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

The first part of this video that I posted was the events leading up to when Talib Kweli performed at Rock the Bells last year. This video shows all of the chaos that ensued after Talib actually made it to the Rock the Bells festival. It’s funny because in the beginning they are telling him that he only has 5 minutes to perform, but Kwe being the guy that he is goes on and does a 23 minute set. He also does some Black Star material with Mos Def at the end of Mos Def’s set. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to see Talib live, let alone Black Star in the same concert. Mos and Kweli give each other so much energy to feed off of, and their live show looks nothing short of spectacular.

Suite For Ma Dukes (Finale & Encore)

I seriously can’t tell you how much I wish I could have been in L.A. for this. It was pretty much the one thing that I wanted to see this year. As you will notice, De La Soul came out to perform some tracks as well as Talib Kweli. I haven’t had the chance to listen to this EP yet, but I can’t wait until I actually do.

Faith No More reunion is OFFICIAL

Posted in Music News with tags , , , , , , , , , on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 by Ryan Buege

After months of quiet whispers, a subtle message has just leaked out from Mike Patton’s team this week, indicating two things. A) he has just completed his first major motion film score for the film Crank 2: High Voltage and B) Faith No More has officially confirmed their reunion!!!! Although no U.S. dates are planned yet and Mike Patton is denying all press requests, we’re really hoping that these shows, the first for Faith No More in over a decade, will eventually make it to the Midwest. Read the entire update on Patton’s film activities and forthcoming schedule is after the jump… Continue reading

Chali 2na teaches Freestyle 101 to G4

Posted in Video with tags , , , , on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This man is one of the best in my opinion. The “syllable killa/verbal gorilla” Chali 2na has a voice that is unparalleled by anyone else. When you hear that deep voice start on the track you know the beat is going to get decimated. In this video for G4 TV, Chali 2na spits a pretty ridculous freestyle (it starts off slow, but once he gets into it he lights it up) and talks about his introduction to the art of freestyle, both in the neighborhood and professionally. Chali is one of those guys that you have to listen to because everything he does is just that ill. Make sure you go out and get the Jurassic 5 EP re-issue right away.

A Half-Life Movie? Part 1?

Posted in Culture, Video with tags , , , on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I initially thought that this was a trailer for a new game, and was totally stoked when I saw that the graphics looked life like. I then realized that this was part of a movie series for Half-Life: Escape From City-17. Half-Life 2 is one of my favorite video games of all time. Watching this movie took me back to playing as good ole’ Gordon Freeman trying to save the world from zombies. If any of you have played any of the Half-Life games you know exactly what I am talking about. My guess is that these videos are just going to come in parts online, but hey that is definitely good enough for me. Keep the Gordon Freeman, ass kicking & blood bursting saga coming.Valve looks like they’ve truly put together something that’s going to be nice to watch.

Editor’s Note: Keep in mind that this was all done on a five hundred dollar budget.

Torche and Dredg touring through Dinkytown’s Varsity Theater in April

And they’ll be a part of the Varsity Theater‘s jam-packed spring/summer concert calendar this April 10th. The billing is a very unlikely one, but there’s no denying this show will be massive and awesome; can’t miss!

Torche is huge on cd, but they are ten times bigger in the live setting. These guys are extremely fun to watch and have never failed to put on a blistering, entertaining show set both times I’ve seen them over the years (once with Jesu in 2007 and at their P4K showcase with Nachtmystium and Boris last year). Personally, I’m very curious to see what kind of set Dredg plays. On their early albums, they had me completely captivated, but I kind of fell off after Catch Without Arms and the show they did at Taste of Choas in 2005. Really, I don’t know what they’ve been up to since, but apparently there’s a new album lined up for release on March 24th. Who knows what they sound like now, but they can’t be doing too much wrong if they’ve lined this gig up.

Cancer Bats on the “Deathsmarch”, new music video

Posted in Video with tags , , , , , , on Monday, February 23, 2009 by Ryan Buege

Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always envied the the prolific and seemingly “tight-knit” Toronto/Buffalo hardcore-punk scene; its no secret that there has been a long line of stellar bands to from this region, and this post is about the latest. The brand new “Deathsmarch” music video is pretty much quintessential Cancer Bats, a Toronto band of gritty punk rockers that is quickly gaining notoriety. “Deathsmarch” may be a bit more mid-paced than usual from these guys, but at its core it’s still the enthralling, disgusting, southern infected hardcore that they are known for. While perhaps a bit cheesy at times (though I think that probably has more to do with the overly enthusiastic fans than anything else), the video is a pretty awesome clip. It’s a really well-shot piece that could easily be mistaken for one of their lives shows if it the edit weren’t so clean.

When they are at their best, there is no one better at what they do. The over-the-top riffage and impassioned, engaging vocals that make their live shows so fun are also exactly what make “Deathsmarch” a great aural piece for this type of clip. Enjoy!

Ace of Base get the nasty, gritty, dirty remix treatment

Posted in Audio, Downloads with tags , , , , , on Monday, February 23, 2009 by Erik Burg

I’ve been having a pretty solid day already. Classes, check. Paycheck, check. Laundry, check. Music domination, check. And more in line with music domination now, this time with one of my favorite guilty pleasure tracks. Ace of Base’s “All That She Wants” is the subject of this remix, fixed up by remix masters Disco Villains. These guys have done tons of different mixes and I’ve loved almost all of them, and this song is no exception. I can’t believe I’m openly admitting that I love the original, and now I’m dancing around to the remix. Turn it up loud, and do the same. Enjoy!
