Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek Perform New Track Off of Revolutions Per Minute

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Man, there is way too much good music coming out right now (did I really just say that?). Shouts to 2DopeBoyz for the lok on this one. Reflection Eternal (Talib & Hi-Tek) were in Washington DC recently, and they performed a new track off of their upcoming album. The new album will be epically titled Revolutions Per Minute, and unfortunately there is no tentative release date yet. By the sounds of the video, this track is beyond sick and it almost gives me that grimy vibe that “More or Less” gave me. Another thing you will notice is why Kweli is one of the best emcees in the history of the game. Oh boy, Kwe & Tek got me fiending  for a new Reflection album real bad.

Radio Do Canibal

Have I ever mentioned that Minneapolis Hip-Hop is the shit? BK-One, who is  Brother Ali’s tour DJ, will be dropping his new album Rádio Do Canibal with Benzilla on October 6th. This is the first leak off of the project and it features MPLS native Brother Ali, Phonte & The Grouch. The beat on this track is bananas, and it’s definitely something I could see myself listening to on a regular basis. It sounds like this project is going to be nothing short of amazing, and it will have a star studded cast of emcees. Over the instrumentals you will hear: Black Thought, Brother Ali, Phonte, The Grouch, Murs, Slug, Raekwon, Blueprint, P.O.S., Blueprint, Toki Wright & many more. You can go over to Fifth Element and pre-order the album now, which is probably a good idea. Follow me after the jump to download the track and peep the tracklisting. Continue reading

Raekwon Talks About the Making of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Tomorrow is the day that Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 drops, are you ready? I will be purchasing the album on my break in between classes tomorrow morning, and I will be bumping it for the rest of the day repeatedly. Hip Hop Official had the chance to sit down with The Chef and talk about all of the blood sweat and tears that went into OB4CL2. Rae talks about a lot of the things that hindered his ability to make this album, and why it has taken so long. Much like Ghost said in one of my previous posts, The Wu isn’t broken up, they are just in a lot of different pieces right now. The Chef also discusses that he made Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2 for the people, because that’s what they wanted. He also mentions that more artists should be doing what the fans want (co-sign).

20090827-blu

I want to send a mad shout out to 2DopeBoyz, as always, for posting these two gems. I had caught eye of these projects last week, but was unable to get them up because of school priorities. Blu has been one of my favorite West Coast emcees since he dropped the album Below The Heavens with Exile. These two projects that he’s released are instrumentals that he’s as of late. A lot of cats might be pretty pissed that Blu is just producing and not rhyming, because everyone knows Blu is very nice with the mic. Either way, I’m glad to hear that he’s constantly making new material, and I can’t wait for another proper full length release. Follow me after the jump to download both projects. Continue reading

Hov Already Discussing A “New” Album?

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

Vodpod videos no longer available.

Blueprint 3 drops tomorrow, and despite all of the hatred I’ve been showing towards the album, I can assure you that I will still be making a purchase. Jay-Z is still one of my favorite emcees, despite the fact that Kanye is producing over half of the album. With all of that set aside, we can talk about this video. In the video above, Hov talks about his next album. That’s right, he’s already talking about what’s to come after Blueprint 3. He makes it sound like this one is going to be very experimental, and even goes on to say that it won’t be a #1 album. Bring it on Jigga, I want to hear that shit.

Ghostface Interview With Thisis50

Posted in Media, Video with tags , , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

I never get sick of hearing news about Ghostface, because the guy is a fucking beast and a legend. Thisis50.com recently sat down with Ghost Deini himself, and discussed a few key issues. He discusses how much he has learned being in the game, and how he wishes he knew back then what he knows now. He also discusses his relationship with the rest of the Wu-Tang Clan. He says that the Clan is cool, but it seems like they don’t really see each other as much as they used to because of solo work. Another thing that Ghost discusses is how Staten Island is different from the rest of the Burroughs in New York. Also make sure you listen to Ghost ring in on the current state of Hip-Hop, he makes some damn good points about the industry.

Mos Def Walks Through New Orleans (Part 1)

This is a video tribute to the people of New Orleans four years after Hurricane Katrina from 2-Cent.com & Mos Def. Might Mos speaks some wise words of knowledge, and takes a tour through post-Katrina New Orleans. If any of you know about Mos, you know that he definitely tends to show his activist side every once in a while. This is definitely a touching and heartfelt video, it will open a lot of eyes. Make sure you stay tuned for part 2.

Ray Benzino? Who?

Posted in Audio, Downloads, Media, Video with tags , , , , , , , on Monday, September 7, 2009 by Tim Althaus

You may be asking yourself that exact question. Who the fuck is Ray Benzino? Well if you were wondering, Ray Benzino is the man behind The Source Magazine, and he’s no doubt a dumbass. In this video he talks about the new Jay-Z cover (hating on it), why Slaughterhouse is overrated (Really?), he also says “Fuck Royce Da 5’9”. Apparently Benzino wanted to order a coffin for himself, because I dont think anyone should be fronting on the Slaughterhouse Machine, especially a dude that doesn’t make good music. Ray ended up taking it one step further and releasing an Eminem & Slaughterhouse diss track called “Good Fellaz”. Now, I don’t know about you guys but… I think that if either of these two respond to Benzino, shit is gonna be crazy as fuck. Follow me after the jump to download “Good Fellaz”. Continue reading

Madlib & Strong Arm Steady, “Get Ya Money Right” (Feat. Defari)

Man, Madlib is a total bully on the beats. This shit goes hard as hell. This track, “Get Ya Money Right”, is off of the forthcoming Madlib & Strong Arm Steady project Stoney Jackson. You know that shit is going to be on the realest label out there, Stones Throw. Defari, Krondon & Phil The Agony definitely leave this track decimated, and Madlib cooks up a beat that is just as infectious as Swine Flu. Don’t sleep on this one, you will regret it.

Mick Boogie is doing did a remix project of Peter, Bjorn & John’s album Living Things entitled Re-Living Thing. It sounds like the album is going to be incredibly dope and it is going to features an all-star cast alongside Mick Boogie. This track , “Just the Past (nVMe remix)”, features Detroit heavy hitters Black Milk, T3 & Big Sean. If this track is any indication of the amplitude of this project, it’s going to be fucking incredible. Damn, the Commissioner has done it yet again.
