Is it just me, or does September 8th seem right around the corner? With joints like this one, you can’t blame me for being anctious. This ridiculously fire track comes via 2DopeBoyz, and it will also be on Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. Raekwon brings along Ghostface, Inspectah Deck & Method Man to drop some mad Wu flavor on a Dilla treat. As you would expect all 4 emcees rip this shit apart (especially Ghost) on a ridiculous Dilla beat.

It appears as though today is a great day for Hip-Hop music as well as humanity. I was over at Okayplayer when I caught this fine piece of news. If you remember a while back, I mentioned that Ma Dukes was going through a lot of bullshit to make sure that Dilla’s legacy lived on in the right way. According to the Okayplayer post, Ma Dukes has reigned triumphant over the assholes that thought it would be cool to totally mess up Dilla’s legacy and screw over his family. I am so glad to hear that these things are cleared up, Ma Dukes is going through a lot right now and she definitely doesn’t need to be worrying about selfish and greedy people.
As my man Nolan mentioned earlier this week, Raekwon finally dropped the album artwork and tracklisting for Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II. In this video he talks a lot about the production that his going to be on the new album. He mentions that when he was going through the process, he thought that production was going to be the biggest piece of the album. Rae actually breaks down how dope he thinks (and I think) Dilla is on the boards. He calls him “like a Dr. Dre & a RZA… a combo”. I’m sure that you can expect nothing but straight fire from Rae & Ghost. Make sure you drop that shit on September 8th, you won’t regret it.
14 years after OB4CL, Chef Raekwon and Ghost will be releasing the sequel. The only track I’ve heard, “New Wu” is sick. The album features a lot of Ghostface, GZA, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Busta, Jadakiss, Styles P, Slick Rick, and more with production by RZA, Dr. Dre, Mathematics, The Alchemist, J Dilla, Marley Marl, and Pete Rock. If you haven’t seen the video for “New Wu”, here it is:

As you may recall, I posted a video yesterday of Alchemist talking about a variety of issues with Nodfactor.com. This is another part of the video where he talks about his favorite producers who also emcee. I love to hear ALC’s input because producing emcees are my favorite cats in the game. He rattles off around 10 cats, and needless to say my favorites (J Dilla, Black Milk & Evidence) are surely in there.
A lot of people might totally hate on me, but I’ve never really been a huge Common fan, with the exception of Like Water For Chocolate. I honestly think that this album might be one of the best Hip-Hop albums of the last decade. The production put forth by Jay Dee and the Soulquarians is nothing short of perfect, and Common manages to compliment every single beat on this album the way it should be. Jay Dee did a great majority of the production and he absolutely killed the beats on this record. In my opinion this album is and always will be a classic. Most emcees wish that they could drop an album this good. Continue reading →
Mos Def is part of one of my favorite duos of all-time (Black Star), and to be honest I really haven’t felt any of his solo projects since Black On Both Sides. The New Danger had Mos going in a different direction than previously heard, and Tru3 Magic just seemed like it was (for the lack of a better term) a half-assed effort. I remember hearing the buzz that this album was coming out this year, and prior to its release I was waiting with great anticipation. I can tell you that this album absolutely eclipses his two prior efforts, and to go even further I just may like this album more than Black On Both Sides. Continue reading →
If there are any of you out there have twitter and follow the real Detroit Hip-Hop Heads, you will know that there was a huge buzz surrounding hipster emcee Charles Hamilton. At one point it appeared as though he was going to give James Yancey (J Dilla) the executive producer credit on his new album The Perfect Life.
What occurred next was a wicked whirlwind of fury from the Detroit scene, outraged that Charles would do something so fucking stupid. Detroit ambassador House Shoes, as well as everyone from the Detroit scene attacked Chuckie’s dumb ass right away. Sonic then tried to claim that he was going to give the money to the “J Dilla Music Foundation” which, doesn’t exist. Chuckie also tried to say that he was close to the Yancey Family, and when House Shoes called Ma Dukes she said she had never heard of Charles Hamilton. As of right now Hamilton has pulled James’ name off of the album (which was a smart move) and will probably be visiting the city of Detroit.
To be honest this kid seems like a wack dude, and I don’t think there is any chance that he would be spitting over Dilla’s treats even if Dilla knew him. After this whole debacle I would be surprised if Chuckie can make a good name for himself in the game, they say any publicity is good publicity I have a feeling that saying doesn’t stick here.
To leave you for tonight, here’s another funny video for you guys to watch:
I’m so glad that 2DopeBoyz had this leak today. This track, “Paid Homage”, is probably my favorite track off of Finale‘s debut album A Pipe Dream And A Promise. It contains a bomb ass beat done by Flying Lotus, which was originally FlyLo’s tribute to Jay Dee’s beat on the Slum Village track “Fall In Love”. Make sure you check this one out, Finale shows respect to the late and very great J Dilla in classic fashion.

J Dilla’s latest ethereally epic release may be one of my favorites that I’ve heard from his catalog. Jay Stay Paid is a hybrid if you will, the vast majority of it plays out like beat tape, but in between are tracks that feature blazingly blistering emcees. Ma Dukes & Pete Rock put a lot of tender love and care into this album, and it really shows through. They both did a great job of arranging the tracks on this album into a graceful and gorgeous mosaic. It sounds so authentic that you would think that Jay produced the album himself. Continue reading →
