I went over to Hip Hop Official today to get my daily does of news (as I do with all of my sources) and I stumbled across J Rocc’s latest masterpiece. Thank You Jay Dee, Act 4 is the latest installment of the podcast mixes that J Rocc has been putting out exclusively through Stones Throw. This mix sounds top tier and it doesn’t surprise me because J Rocc makes some of the best Dilla mixes out there. You will hear beats that you might have not heard, originals of samples Dilla used, and great remixes. After you get this one, make sure you go out and download the rest (Act 1, 2 & 3) as soon as you can because those are tight as hell to.

P.O.S. is an “Optimist”
Posted in Video with tags Hip-Hop, Never Better, P.O.S., Rhymesayers on Tuesday, March 3, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
This is the video for the new single off of P.O.S.‘s new record Never Better. The track is called “Optimist” and I love the concept for the video. The artwork and editing in this video are nothing short of exceptional. All of this compounds on the fact that this track is absolutely killer. If you haven’t yet, make sure you do, go out and get P.O.S.’s new album Never Better, which is an exceptional masterpiece.
Evidence and Alchemist are “Step Brothers” in the lab…
Posted in News, Video with tags Alchemist, Cats & Dogs, Chemical Warfare, Evidence, Hip-Hop, Step Brothers on Sunday, March 1, 2009 by Tim AlthausI don’t know about you readers out there, but this video makes me claw with anticipation. As many of you know, Evidence & Alchemist are putting out an album together as the group “Step Brothers”. This is one of my highest anticipated releases of this year (besides EV’s Cats & Dogs) because both of these guys are incredibly talented musicians. Not only are they incredibly talented, but they are two of my favorite artists in the Hip-Hop game right now. EV & ALC are also two of the hardest working cats in the game right now. Evidence has the Step Brothers album as well as the Cats & Dogs album, and Alchemist has potentially three albums due out this year (Step Brothers, Chemical Warfare & Gangrene (which is a side project with Oh No)).
This video is only 48 seconds long, but it’s definitely enough for me to know that this album is going to be classic material. Make sure you stay tuned to Mind Inversion for all of the latest news and updates on both Evidence & Alchemist as well as the progress on these albums.
The Year 2009th Wonder
Posted in Video with tags 9th Wonder, Hip-Hop on Sunday, March 1, 2009 by Tim Althaus Vodpod videos no longer available.
This is another guy that needs absolutely no introduction. 9th Wonder has been making some of the most infectious beats in R&B and Hip-Hop for the last 5-6 years. In this video he talks about his two record labels (The Academy & JamLa), and how he came up with the name for the labels. He talks about what it used to be like when everything he loved was considered “backpack”. 9th ends up making a pretty damn good point about the underground vs. overground (he’s got Grammys and platinum plaques on his walls). 9th Wonder’s feeling about the Hip-Hop game in the aspect of producers and emcees is like one big fraternity, it’s pretty crazy but that’s an accurate metaphor (I love the Masta Ace name drop). This is a good interview on a guy who is always making foot prints in the industry (that a lot of people don’t realize). Make sure you stay tuned to Mind Inversion for more news on the year “2009th Wonder”.
Muja Messiah freestyles at Peter Parker’s on B96

Via Culture Bully, B96 recently had the the self-proclaimed “hottest thing cooking” in Minneapolis, Muja Messiah, in the studio and he displayed his incredible flow on air for the rest of the city to hear. They discuss a range of topics, from fake and stupid MCs to Muja’s own steadily rising career, and after a few minutes Muja freestyles over his own beat that he brought with him into the studio. Hit play and watch the video to see why this guy’s name never stops coming up in the local hip-hop conversation lately.
While they’re hyping his show at Axis next week, I want to remind everyone about the awesome set that’s planned at Fine Line next week featuring sets of Atmosphere meets Brother Ali, Muja Messiah meets M.anifest, Toki Wright meets St. Paul Slim, and DJ Jimmy 2 Times meets DJ Plain Ole Bill. This is a local hip-hop event for the record books, and you should do everything in your power to make it to this show. Click the flier to read more!
Clipse & Rick Rubin “Cooking Up” Classics
Posted in Music News with tags Clipse, Hip-Hop, pitchfork, Rick Rubin, Til the Casket Drops on Thursday, February 26, 2009 by Tim Althaus
It looks as though your favorite Cocaine Cowboys and one of the most legendary music makers of our time are “cooking up” some classic material. Clipse & Rick Rubin have been in the studio recording material for Clipse’s new album Til the Casket Drops which is due out sometime in the summer. According to the article that I read on Pitchfork, they have finished one track and they will be recording one or two more tracks together in the studio. I can’t even imagine what the outcome of this collaboration is going to be, both Rubin & Clipse are at the top of their game.
The first single off Til the Casket Drops, “Kinda Like a Big Deal”, will be dropping on March 9th and it features Kanye West and DJ Khalil (who did one of the best beats on the Weatherman LP, “All Said and Done“). Til the Casket Drops, like many other albums, is going to be one of the highlights this year. Make sure you stay tuned to Mind Inversion for updates on the album.
Reflection Eternal is Hitting Up Your “Internet Connection”
Posted in Downloads with tags Bootsy Collins, Hi-Tek, Hip-Hop, Reflection Eternal, Talib Kweli on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Tim Althaus
Oh, blessed is the day! Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek released a new track on the internet called “Internet Connection” and it features legend Bootsy Collins. To be honest this track didn’t hit me like previous Reflection tracks, but to be honest it’s still damn good. Kweli & Tek haven’t skipped a beat and I’m hopin this track is just one in a line of many that we get to hear in the following months. Hi-Tek’s production skill on this track is on point (as it always is), and Kweli’s lyrics tear through the track like paper. Kweli said he is hoping that the new Reflection will be out by the end of the year; God I hope so. You can be sure that I will be keeping you up to date every step of the way with the new Reflection Eternal album.

Talib Rocks the Bells with Mos Def and Blacksmith TV
Posted in Video with tags Black Star, Hip-Hop, Mos Def, Rock the Bells, Talib Kweli on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
The first part of this video that I posted was the events leading up to when Talib Kweli performed at Rock the Bells last year. This video shows all of the chaos that ensued after Talib actually made it to the Rock the Bells festival. It’s funny because in the beginning they are telling him that he only has 5 minutes to perform, but Kwe being the guy that he is goes on and does a 23 minute set. He also does some Black Star material with Mos Def at the end of Mos Def’s set. I can’t even imagine what it would be like to see Talib live, let alone Black Star in the same concert. Mos and Kweli give each other so much energy to feed off of, and their live show looks nothing short of spectacular.
Chali 2na teaches Freestyle 101 to G4
Posted in Video with tags Chali 2na, Freestyle, G4 TV, Hip-Hop, Jurassic 5 on Tuesday, February 24, 2009 by Tim AlthausVodpod videos no longer available.
This man is one of the best in my opinion. The “syllable killa/verbal gorilla” Chali 2na has a voice that is unparalleled by anyone else. When you hear that deep voice start on the track you know the beat is going to get decimated. In this video for G4 TV, Chali 2na spits a pretty ridculous freestyle (it starts off slow, but once he gets into it he lights it up) and talks about his introduction to the art of freestyle, both in the neighborhood and professionally. Chali is one of those guys that you have to listen to because everything he does is just that ill. Make sure you go out and get the Jurassic 5 EP re-issue right away.
